Kalkbrenner had two fouls early and we never put thenpressure on him down lowSchierman played 40 minutes , Kallenbrenner played 38 as did Alexander Ashworth 31 .
Their core 5 played a lot more minutes than ours did . They should have been running them off the floor in the last 10 minutes but , didnāt .
We got a lot of points off our Bench but , our Top players couldnāt deliver down the stretch .
And , letās deal with a harsh reality here . Dingle and Ledlum were our top Draft choices in the portal this season .
Combined they scored 11 points today and as Rick says ā you have to make those mid range shots , especially uncontested ones .ā
And other than Dunlap who tried to go on a gimpy ankle , we have no reliable sharp shooter from 3 , As evidenced by todays stats. 2 for 11 , I think it was . Thatās not BE quality .
Yes , the Refs home courted us today but , we blew a 9 point 2 nd half lead and frankly we stunk in crunch time. Missing 7 out of last 8 shots if I recall .
This game was there for the taking , even with the Refs , but came up short in our late game performance .
Kalkenbrenner outplayed Joel . That was obvious .and he played those 38 minutes . Joel should have eaten his lunch down the stretch .
Hurley tweak
His 4 turnovers were killers. Our two frosh had rude awakenings today on the road.Which one?
I will agree with you espken if we beat Seton Hall on Tuesday. If we donāt our goals move much farther away not closer.Weāve been accustomed to gut wrenching losses. This one is right up there atop the list. However with Pitino, the end goal has never been closer. Year one is right on if not ahead of schedule.
Play the reserves and get them ready for February and March. As for bettors, if you're a St. John's fan it's simple. Don't bet on their games because as we all know, "On any given night..."
Refs made bad calls on both sides of the ball. The technical on Creighton was bogus. I have a lot of confidence in many of our players at this point, but Dingle isn't one of them.Alleyne had 2 shots that rimmed out. I didnāt like him passing up that first look but, Dingleās wide open miss was shit. We still go long stretches where we donāt score. These pig officials killed us. Send these clowns back to Foot locker. Hope theyāre stranded in the airport. Again, had our chances we lack that lead guard who take over the game.
Personally I like Alleyne and would like to see him get more minutes.Alleyne missed two really big shots. Is it fair for us to ask him to take just 5 shots all game until the last minute and then save us? How do you stay loose that way? He averaged double figures at Va Tech over his 3 year career.
His defense was beyond awesome. He ate Alexanderās lunch and then at the end of the game he rushed out to Farabello all alone in the corner in secondary transition and closed out on him so well he completely stopped the shot.
One game at a time is our mantra. This team has bounced back well after losses so far.I will agree with you espken if we beat Seton Hall on Tuesday. If we donāt our goals move much farther away not closer.
What game were you watching? It was a hell of a good game, well-played and well-coached by St. John's. A few more made shots and we win. The home crowd definitely played a role, although they were relatively quiet until the Johnnies let them get back into it in second half.It terms of it being a good gameā¦ā¦ BS the game was crap, played poorly by both teams. It came down making actual foul calls and that determined the game. Our kids played like crap as did theirs. We missed big shots all day, Soriano played small, Jenkins couldnāt make most of his shots, Dunlap was a zero, Wilcher played a few good minutes but it caught up to him as a 9 point lead went to 3 within seconds. Taylor didnāt even put up a shot,
Bright spotsā¦.. Zuby played better they Soriano, Dingle in first half, Ledlum came on late with a great block and some big stops.
Big mistake by coach was not putting Ledlum on Schierman sooner as he scored like 5 straight baskets or went to foul shots.
With all thatā¦ā¦ the game was for the taking and we had a three point lead late but REFS MADE SURE JOHNNIES COULDNT WIN.
Bad mood, indeed. By the end of the game I wasn't sure whether to reach for an extra dose of my BP med or a glass of red wine. I went with the wine. For those keeping track tonight will be sushi
I tweeted this during the last time out, caps in original:I donāt think thatās a call you make on a fade away the last play. The refs also do their homework and know full well DJ doesnāt draw fouls and will fade away on his shot. He likely wonāt get that call once in that situation in conference games. If he jumptops, does a ball-fake and leans into the defender, he gets the call.
Itās like how umpires give guys with reputations for having a good eye the benefit of the doubt on a close pitch.
Maybe JRL grows into that role? The missing piece.
Pitinoās teams always had a closer. Weāre still looking for ours.
He should also tell them not to leave their feet every time someone throws a shot fake.I tweeted this during the last time out, caps in original:
CRP should tell everyone to SHOT FAKE AS SOON AS YOU GET THE BALL...
Only after wins.Gotta start paying more attention to your posts
Hopefully Dunlap finds his shot on Tuesday. Was thirsting for him to hit a three today. The bottom line is this. Did Creighton get a home whistle today, yes definitely. But, we made it easy for the Refs to do with all of our over aggressive reaching on defense. In spite of the home whistle we had our chances in this game and just couldnāt knock down a shot or two in the last minute and a half.
Itās HARD to win on the road in college basketball. Thatās the long and short of it. Five Top 25 teams lost on road to unranked teams already today. #6 Kentucky , #18 San Diego St., #2 Houston , #8 Arizona and #25 Texas all lost on the road to unranked teams today. Itās not easy on the road and we were right there at the end.
Now, weāre going to have to win a couple of these games if this team wants to achieve what they set out to achieve this season. That has to start Tuesday because in order to get to 11 or 12 wins in conference and guarantee ourselves an NCAA bid we have to sweep a couple of these middle of the pack Big East Teams in addition to DePaul and Georgetown. The next game to me is huge.
Alleyne is all-conference defense. He just shut down Trey Alexander and also defended Schierman and their PG well. He can defend 3 positions at an elite level.Personally I like Alleyne and would like to see him get more minutes.
Assume you're kidding but if not, no, no and no. (That's a triple, no, a quadruple negative, and I apologize. ) Several years ago I was of the mind we'd be better off in the A-10. Thought it would give us a better shot at making the tournament and then once we're in, who knows? But Fr. Shanley has made it clear the basketball program is important, and he backed it up by hiring Pitino. I'm good with where we are and excited about where we're going.Maybe it would be a good idea to leave the B.E., and I'm dead ass about that.
In to many games, it seems like the B.E. refs screw us, just like the SHU game, a few years back with Mullin as coach.
need him to shut down KadaryAlleyne is all-conference defense. He just shut down Trey Alexander and also defended Schierman and their PG well. He can defend 3 positions at an elite level.
Offensively heās limited but smart. He doesnāt make mistakes ever. Everyone wanted him to shoot that midrange late but he knows heās 35% pulling up from that spot.
He should get regular three point attemptsā¦not just to save us at the end of games.
I think the refs knew they screwed up when they called the technical on Creighton and were focused on leaving the arena alive in the waning minutes of the game.Agreed. There were a lot of reach and gamble fouls. Way too many. But I hate when, in a close game, poor calls or non calls decide the game in closing minutes. And those calls almost always go in favor of the home team. I think the refs subconsciously get influenced by the home crowd
