Creighton (MSG), Sun., Feb. 25, 12 Noon, CBS

11 minutes, 2 rebounds, 1 block, zero turnovers. 1-4 in first half minutes 0-2 in 2nd half.

If you want to play extrapolate game, 7.3 pts, 7.3 rebounds, 3.6 blocks, 0 turnovers.

Like any coach would tell you, if they are all makeable good looks, i don't give a damn how many shots he took.

Point is, no big mistakes today, despite you thinking he did.

Before Taylor re-entered the starting lineup i posted here that the big decline was Luis getting starters minutes and horfible play replaced Taylor's pretty solid play. So Im not disagreeing entirely with you.

If we are dishing star of the game its Jenkins who was great, then we saw the Dingle we waited all year for, then Taylor and Ledlum (who mixes it up underneath like Marciano did against bigger opponents, plus reasonable games from soriano and zuby (7 rebounds, 4 assists).

Makes no sense to argue after the best win all season with the curtain about to come down on our hopes.
The star of the game was Jenkins for allowing Dingle to control the flow for 25 minutes. His shots and opportunities will always be there if he’s patient and lets the ball find him.

Dingle is a very good teammate.

I don't disagree with you, Logen or Monte - Jenkins had a very good offensive game, any player who is as ball-dominant as he is will have some turnovers or mistakes, and the team would be nowhere without him.

Some of his improved efficiency was from shots falling - and I agree that when you're hot, ride it. Some of it was also from not taking bad 3s. But probably his best offensive game all year.

My beef with the turnovers is that those two, late in the game, were just stupid basketball at the exact time in the game when you need your PG to be smart. Didn't hurt us today - but those are plays that cost you games. I have the same problem with RJ who is a much more frequent offender -but also not playing the PG where the standards are higher.

And the team wouldn't be anywhere without him because Pitino didn't land the PG he wanted (Clayton) and decided early on that the other two options he had on the roster (Dingle and Wilcher) weren't up to the task. So we ride with Jenkins - which does not immunize him from criticism.

I don't know why every thread becomes all about Jenkins though - if you look at the OP you will find commentary about Ledlum and Taylor - who both have limitations that I've also pointed out while still appreciating the things they do well - same as I do WRT Jenkins.

I did forget to mention Luis - I probably erased the memory of him playing from my mind. He didn't kill us today, but put charitably it was a learning experience for him. I thought Soriano played well in his reduced role. Ejafor had 4 assists including at least one memorable pass - that was a bit eye opening. It was not a surprise that both he and Soriano struggled offensively against Kalkbrenner, that kid is just a tremendous post defender.
I didn't like the pass to Ledlum. Agree not a smart play. Where he dribbled out of bounds, I'm not sure what happened but it seemed like he was anticipating a foul. In any event, I consider that a physical error as opposed to the pass to Ledlum, which was a mental error(and a physical error on the errand pass).

DJ is not a natural PG, he's a natural scorer. He's been asked to play PG, but not easy for him to always flip the switch and play completely under control.

This was an all SJ crowd and there were 12,000 of us there! THAT is a huge St. John's crowd for 12 noon, nationally televised game.
The LIRR 950 AM train was jammed with Johnny fans. Tons of kids with moms and dads. We may finally have young fans. My stop, floral park had at least 75 people on the platform.

Same deal going home at 239 pm. Ronk train packed in every car.

Loud engaged crowd. Large % of fans came ready for whiteout. Place was on their feet in closing moments.

Oh yea. Excluded Wilcher who was very good

I was at the Garden today and it was wonderful to see us play a full forty minutes of quality basketball. Everyone did their part and contributed something positive. I kept waiting for the inevitable collapse but every time it seemed like something bad could happen, someone on our team made a play. Glenn Taylor Jr. played an inspired game and was emblematic of what was different today. He played with tremendous effort, his defense was critical, was a beast on the boards and made every hustle play.

If you asked me before the tipoff which team would shoot 100% from the line and have 24 assists to only 3 turnovers I would have guaranteed you that team would have been Creighton. However, that was not the case. Hopefully we can play like this going forward. If we do anything is possible.

NC Johnnie I spent much of the Providence game in a room full of St. John's bobble heads. Not sure even the Walter Berry bobble head can fix our curse.
Well whatever you did today it worked! What a wonderful game to be at. Most enjoyable game in years after one of the worst at UBS against Seton Hall. Pitino hasn't lost the team. Had a great time with the RedFans group at Stout! Let's not revert against Butler. Hope to be at the Georgetown game and then the BET.

Taylor also got a few very tough rebounds in traffic. He needs to stay in the starting lineup for the rest of the year.

I love Taylor. He and Ledlum are far and away the best defenders on the team. Taylor will also rebound, move the ball, and can shoot.

I just wish he was more aggressive going to the hoop (think he did it two or three times today, scored once, got fouled once, got blocked once, maybe) and more willing to take a contested shot. Pretty sure that is what landed him on the bench in favor of Luis when Pitino wanted to get Luis into the lineup - which he was able to do because Taylor is such a good kid and good teammate.

Think Pitino made excellent use of Taylor today in a game where you needed a defender for Schierman and Alexander. But I also can't disagree with reducing his minutes in games where the matchup calls for more offense than defense - at least until Glenn sheds his inner Sir Dom and finds his inner Jenkins.

It’s gotta be the 114 connection :)
