Cragg provides Mullin with show of support

Feel like I should preface that this post is just a hunch and comes with 0 inside info with all the speculation thrown around the past few days.

But it’s very apparent Cragg is in tune with the culture problems outlined by the honorable Monte and SJU1512 the past few weeks. With that awareness he must have come to Mullin with a demand/ultimatum to replace Mitch and possibly GSJ.

Guessing all this posturing from the Bobby Hurley rumors to this proclamation today is jockeying for position in this pivotal time for the program. Hoping Cragg holds firm and establishes the winning culture we’ve been craving for decades!

The same day Cam reopens. Really. Wow.
I don't even know what this is supposed to mean. Is there a moratorium period after a decommit?
We’re expected to sign a replacement the same day? Has he signed elsewhere? Perhaps they are re recruiting him? Wait, no... there is no recruiting going on bc Matt A left. Staff is surfing in Cali. Got it.
Name 1 player on the roster that has been recruited by someone other than Matt?
I don’t know. Nor do you or anyone else other than real insiders. Which I promise you most of you will claim you are but your not. So many of you are not even the glass if half empty but the glass isn’t all the way to the top. Debbie downers. My goodness. Give it s rest. If it’s the same deal a month from now then yes bitch and moan and I’ll agree. But Jesus simmer a bit I doubt anything is going on over the final four weekend. By Easter then have at it.
It's a fan board and the program is in disarray. If you have such a problem with the content, why don't you not read it instead of telling a bunch of people to take a break from criticism?
Because it’s a fan board. Which I am. I normally just sit back in read but when the same negative Nancy’s are posting the same crap over and over and over and over and feeding off each other’s piss poor view of the world it irritates me and I jump in. life is short bro. Take a positive attitude and chill. I swear to god if we won the ncaa this year some would still post the program is in disarray bc we aren’t ranked in the preseason top 25 next year.

This is the Sgt. Schultz Fan Board: "We know nothing, nothing!"
That doesn't stop us from speculating or ranting or lamenting--nor should it.
We're diehard fans.
Gotta hope Cragg is on top of this and will effect 'some' degree of positive change over the next week--whether it's a new HC & Staff--or at least 2 new ACs to this Staff.
For the love o' mike, 'everybody' knows we cannot go into next season 'status quo'.
Cragg knows that.
'Something' will break...

Thanks and yes hold firm.
For whatever reason I
already like and trust Mike Cragg - I’m
Usually good at the intuition “thing” having the fortune (or challenge) of seeing tens of thousands of people bare the souls during my career
His hiring might be the most significant happening for St. Johns since - whatever - the final four...
Can’t imagine a man of his stature and experience AND Duke roots would have come here sans very due diligence.
So
Go Storm - let’s move this in a nice, very nice, direction.

Famous last words of the St. John's sunshine crowd-Let's let things play out. If you guys were on the 10th floor of a burning building where the fire started on the first floor and had reached the 9th floor you would say We're good. Let's let things play out.

I hear you Bamafan when it comes to anyone saying thing are rosy. On the other hand, I'm smart enough to know what I don't know and like 90% of the posters here I don't have a clue how things will turn out with regard to staff changes. Given that, I prefer to relax, enjoy the Final Four and wait to comment until I see how things turn out.

How many other programs are left in such a precarious position because of an assistant leaving?
Sheer stupidity!!!!

Absolutely the dumbest, most pathetic policy to continue into next season.
It’s why I cannot believe they’ll do it... but of course they will.
Lol.

At this point idc whether Mullin is staying or going. What I do care about is that we have no one to replace our only recruiter a week later he left. We have lost our PG for next year. We need someone on the job asap trying to grab someone. It's ridiculous. Either get rid of Mullin or get this coaching staff bs together.
If Mullin survives this dead man walking scenario the first thing he has to do is prove he can re-recruit his point guard just as Lavin had to do with Jakarr Sampson. The second thing is to make the staff changes expected by common sense.
Finally, he can move his wife back to NYC and ask her to disengage from commenting on her Twitter account about recruiting from the Bay area.
If this President refused to buy out Slice he doesn't seem inclined to add any beans to the pot for Mullin. HE is the biggest setback for this basketball program. He and the Board of trustees have basically settled on seeing St. John's play in the bottom half of the Big East and fans and donors will likely respond accordingly. Perhaps this is as good as it is going to get.
So pissed that we are losing the PG. Shows lack of commitment to what is a full time 50 week a year job. For most coaches it’s a passion.

Sensing that we will add 2 assistants and that our staff overall will be stronger. Matt may have recruited transfers well, but was just about the most specialized assistant in college basketball. To tag him with the title assistant is generous. He couldn't coach even if he tried, which he didn't. Ron linfonte was more valuable on the bench.

I think the statement is posturing at this point. I believe Mullin sees the future is hopeless and wants to get paid and Cragg wants to move on without paying.
The man has a contract. Cragg may have worded it differently from the idiots the last time around, but he still has a contract. So pay the man.

And things between the school and its greatest player will be obviously be strained, but if you try to go down the fired with cause route and try to pay less for nonperformance of certain duties, it'll only get uglier. Pay the man and let's get started with a new tomorrow that starts today.
And, if they allow him to stay, do what you have to do to ensure full commitment...call meetings in July and August if necessary

You're talking to people like this is a perennially winning program that's had a bad year or two and is being irrationally impatient. This is a program that has not won an NCAA tournament game, nor made it to the semi-finals of its own conference tournament, since the beginning of this Millennium. And now has a head coach getting paid handsomely to give 80% effort. Honestly, give it a rest won't you please?

Lol. I'm one of the biggest homers on this board when it comes to being positive during the season. I also said in the fall I'd give my opinion of the state of the program in regards to a successful year etc. This year to me was successful. We made the play in game of the NCAAs. So I was happy about that. However this year could have and should have been way more successful if the coaching was better. That's what I'm looking at. The coaching. So now I'm giving my opinion from what I've seen. Either Mullin brings in at least 2 coaches who know the college game, can recruit and are good with the X's and O's. Mullin also needs to step up his job as a recruiter. Mullin himself at his presser said he'd be at all the local gyms because he either "has the keys or knows the janitor". He said that, he hasn't done it. You don't need to be an insider (which I don't claim to be) to see that. The other answer is to start over with a new staff. I'm open to either if Cragg brought in the right coach.
My lord most of you are insufferable. Improved record every year. One of four teams in conference to make the tournament this year. And still complaining just to complain, just because we haven’t announced coaching changes within a week of Matt A leaving. Same old schtick. Blah. Blah. Blah. If we beat AZ St and then lost would you still be complaining? Probably. Even if we lost last weekend. I thought the PC Friar board was unfun to read but this one takes the cake now. Why the eff would any recruit be excited to come to SJU reading all this crap. And yes of course they read it. The entire board should be locked up until coaching changes are announced. Everyone is a know it all. Can all recruit and coach better than anyone on the staff. Throw in your resumes then. Time for a Xanax, thanks fellas.
Are you kidding?

It’s not the “skin of the teeth way” we got into the last four in nor the early exit nor the end of year collapse...it’s all about trajectory...limited r3cruits coming in and now we lost the top one. Progress? Yes...Acceptable progress? No

Matt doesn't coach he recruits. Mullin, Mitch and GSJ do neither so hence a recruit decommits from a coaching staff disconnected from the recruiting. Can't think of any other program in the conference in this predicament. I don't know if what is being said is true regarding Cragg offering Mullin a way out of the job but if true it doesn't bode well for Mullin or the program. That would plant doubts in recruits and potential assistant coaches. I can't see this ending well.

Correct. He was a broker and closer. He had next to zero oversight by Mullin however and it may bite us on the ass in finding a replacement who values teamwork.

Yes, but Mullin, Mitch and for the most part Greg weren't recruiters and that staff dis-functionality is ultimately the responsibility of the coach/CEO.
