If Mullin survives this dead man walking scenario the first thing he has to do is prove he can re-recruit his point guard just as Lavin had to do with Jakarr Sampson. The second thing is to make the staff changes expected by common sense.
Finally, he can move his wife back to NYC and ask her to disengage from commenting on her Twitter account about recruiting from the Bay area.
If this President refused to buy out Slice he doesn't seem inclined to add any beans to the pot for Mullin. HE is the biggest setback for this basketball program. He and the Board of trustees have basically settled on seeing St. John's play in the bottom half of the Big East and fans and donors will likely respond accordingly. Perhaps this is as good as it is going to get.

The man has a contract. Cragg may have worded it differently from the idiots the last time around, but he still has a contract. So pay the man.

And things between the school and its greatest player will be obviously be strained, but if you try to go down the fired with cause route and try to pay less for nonperformance of certain duties, it'll only get uglier. Pay the man and let's get started with a new tomorrow that starts today.
 
Just hearing these recruiting stories, I don't think Mullin deserves to be paid for one more year, let alone two. He has not done the job expected of a college basketball coach.

Yes, it's a contract and St. John's is at fault for screwing it up so badly, but there has to be some type of clause in there about actually doing job duties... right? Like showing up to official visits or thanking recruits when they commit? On second though, maybe not. Very bizarre circumstances that could not have been foreseen.

At this point I'm calling BS on Mullin caring about the program. He should be giving the school a very friendly exit deal to save face and ensure we hire a good replacement.

If being a "know it all" about coaching means knowing to contact recruits at least once after they commit, showing up when Femi visits us, hiring a second recruiter, etc... then call me Coach K. This is painfully obvious and 99% of Redmen posters would have done these incredibly simple job duties.

I would be happy to have him back if he simply did the above.

Also, to those who keep preaching "progress", be careful. If Mullin returns then next year won't adhere to this already misleading trend.

In what world does a HC not acknowledge recruits/commits before they show up to the first day of practice?

I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone. Thanks to all the posters who share my frustration because this has been a truly bizarre set of events.

It's a fan board and the program is in disarray. If you have such a problem with the content, why don't you not read it instead of telling a bunch of people to take a break from criticism?
