I am thankful that both Jenkins and Ledlum are on this roster. I predict, as the season continues an the offense (with RJ) takes shape, they will both improve their shot selection and become more efficient.

I also hope RP continues to light a fire under Dingle, defensively, so we can get more scoring out of him.

Indeed. Luis has never played pg but his innate skill and a few months of player development , have now transformed him into a starting pg in Big East! Magic by Pitino. Especially since Luis was injured and could not practice for six weeks with fractured hand and shin splints!
Can he bring the ball up?

How did Jenkins play at Iona? I’m very curious. RP use of him gives off the appearance that he owes Jenkins something. Jenkins only redeeming quality at this time is that he has the confidence of a superstar. Putting aside his playing time. I’m confused why he takes bad shot after bad shot.
He had the lowest shooting % of their 8 leading scorers and significantly more attempts than #2 and 127 more attempts than #3.

But they had an A-10 roster in one of the weakest conferences in the country so it didn’t matter.

Believe it r not, the individual player defense has not improved. Coach Pitino has figured out a way to mask the defensive deficiencies with a match up zone. Problem is, it was played poorly and UConn was ready for it. EVERYTIME Soriano shot up to help stop their guards from penetrating it left the basket open for some thunderous dunks by Samson. Samson didn’t score 16 points going against Soriano, he scored going against no one.

If our D truly improved then our guards would be able to stop penetration on their own and coach wouldn’t have to play a zone that left a sub like Johnson wide open.
Isn’t that what a HOF coach is supposed to do though? Find a way to maximize his teams upside by limiting their deficiencies and maximizing their strengths?

Agree, I wasn’t being critical of the coach. In fact I give him credit for going against his grain regarding his defensive philosophy. Just pointing out that most of our current guards are not capable of guarding against drives to the basket.

Correct, regardless of anything else, this is why we lost the game

This issue is when Soriano popped up to help one of the other players needed to rotate down. Unfortunately by flashing an offensive player in the center of the zone that made the rotation more difficult so either their guards were going to drive on us or the big guy was rolling to the basket. Good adjustment by UConn.
