Confidence

Staff is very hard at work and was prepared for this.   The expectation and confidence is that our 2021-2022 roster will be stronger than this past season.

The rare occasion on which Beast says what I said but uses fewer words to do it!  LOL /media/kunena/emoticons/cool.png

It's not very easy to use more words than you do, but I manage to do it.   /media/kunena/emoticons/smile.png

I like Beast’s statement that is Masterful PR!   BOE , you might consider a post retirement Career as a PR guy .  Lawman wrote  like he was a Staff Writer for Sports Illustrated and he was ready for  his Pulitzer .  All tongue in cheek guys , enjoyed them both .

Losing Williams, Earlington and Cole is not just about replacing X number of points per game. Williams shot close to 45% from 3, and Earlington was also over 40%. Cole over 35%.  Smith put up decent but not overwhelming numbers at Vermont, but he is stepping way up in class.

So the team is losing over 50% of their scoring, and most of their reliable 3 point shooters. While these are some serious losses, the only game over loss would be Champagnie.  If the staff comes through by landing the better talent that is out there, the losses will be forgotten. But let's not kid ourselves. Losing 6 or 7 players that played significant minutes causes problems. Continuity is essential to CMA's system. He has to start over again next season. The lack of senior leadership could be a problem.  Champ is our Luca Brasi. If he goes, down we go. Is the sky falling Not yet. But staff has a lot of work ahead.

I think the great thinker from upstate NY, Jim Boeheim says “ this post season will be like no other in terms of kids transferring.” This is probably as accurate assessment as one could come up with . Jim also says he knows he will lose some of his own players not named Buddy .   What are the portal ethics here or , as I suspect none .. if a Coach isn’t suppose to contact a portal player until they file , how does a kid know who , if any school will pitch them up ?   Or , have these Players started the ball rolling themselves by putting out feelers to the schools they might like ?  It’s a important issue surrounding this nutty rule .

Of those leaving, who is irreplaceable ?

I'm not so sure he'd consider that a compliment.

It's about Sonny saying that without Luca," the family is in a lot of trouble".  Plus, Luca was loyal to the family.  The prequel to the Godfather book tells the rise and fall of Luca Brasi.  It's not a bad read.

Why you put an X through Toro, he hasn't made a decision yet.  /media/kunena/emoticons/tongue.png

It's a team game. And this team was playing extremely well for a stretch.
The team's weapon was depth. The 2nd unit in particular with Moore, Earlington and Wusu was a huge reason we went on that run.
As the original post on this thread said.... we will be in good shape so long as we don't lose our core.
I agreed. I thought we were a solid big man away from being a top 25 team next year.
Now the depth, experience and senior leadership are gone. We're left with two returning players and a prayer that Champ returns.
We'll hit the transfer market for replacements. Maybe we'll strike gold.
But I'd rather have taken my chances next year with our core.

I agree and wish our core remained intact...but, it is what it is...i will miss each of the kids that left...however, the good news is the kids that left are all replaceabl...CMA will have to make do and we will root just as hard

More importantly, how the hell are they having an off season practice with only 2 scholarship returning players? And one of them just had surgery? Two walkons, and maybe Dunn and Toro workout. New players for next season cannot practice with the team till summer session starts. Oh boy...

Gee, you think Champy told his teammates that he was not coming back, regardless of the NBA look see.  That might account for the mass exodus.

While there is nothing to indicate that he did, and I sure hope he didn't, I most certainly wouldn't rule it out. As I said before, I have to believe that all options are on the table for both brothers.

I think you should contact a couple of the boys and make the brothers an offer they can’t refuse.  /media/kunena/emoticons/smile.png

IMHO our frontcourt at this moment is better than it was last year.

Wheeler+Nyiwe+Stanley+Traore is going to give you more toughness and defense down low than you got from Roberts+Moore+Toro+Earlington.

I would agree that the scoring potential of the new unit versus the old unit is an unknown.

However, the staff is also not done adding pieces.

The current backcourt of Alexander+Smith+Wusu+Pinzon may or may not be better than Alexander+Dunn+Cole+Williams+Wusu.

However again the staff is not done adding pieces.

I remain confident that - assuming Julian returns - next year's roster will be better than this year.

We all agree that the unfortunate part is that the staff will have a lot of new faces to integrate instead of starting with as big a foundation as we had hoped.  However they should have a more normal time frame to do that next year and they have amply demonstrated their ability to do it.

Confidence remains high.

LMF, with the exception of Wheeler, who it seems is more of a wing, we have no clue whether or not the other 3 front court guys can even play at this level. And even if they can, we have no clue what to expect from them. And please don't tell me that they can play at this level because the staff thinks they can, because the staff thought the same thing about Toro. So really not  sure how you can be so sure that they will bring more to the table then our front court last season. Granted the bar is set pretty low.
