More importantly, how the hell are they having an off season practice with only 2 scholarship returning players? And one of them just had surgery? Two walkons, and maybe Dunn and Toro workout. New players for next season cannot practice with the team till summer session starts. Oh boy...
lmao I have behind the scenes footage of Wusu showing up to offseason workouts...

That was funny and I get it. I was shocked at the turnover as well but there are opportunities to upgrade the roster and I really like Wheeler as a replacement for Moore and Smith for Dunn. But I am low-key excited about Nyiwe and I keep looking at his ball-handling and variety of moves to get to the rim and finish with authority that I wonder if we already have our big man.

While everyone's highlight tape looks good, this guy displays good court vision and awareness, quickness and explosiveness to the rim and anticipation in blocking shots and rebounding. He has had almost a year already getting familiar with the system so he should come out of the gate ready to contribute. Posh is going to love playing with Wheeler and Nyiwe. I see lots of ESPN to plays highlights in our future.

I accept that Nyiwe could be a good find, but he's not the big man we need.  The kid we are looking for will run down the court and head straight to the paint because he knows that is where his game is.

I don't have a problem with the staff adding a traditional low post 5 type but the stretch four/hybrid five gets you more mileage, especially in todays game. A bull on the block type player is always nice to have though and would make for a nice one two punch with Nyiwe and Wheeler.

There is definitely merit in the point you are making, but good luck selling a stretch four/hybrid five to this fan base.  I'll speak for myself, I am tired of getting dominated in the paint and having no inside threat to take pressure of the backcourt.

Yeah at this point we're a beaten down, bitter, pessimistic fan base when it comes to big men. Garza could grad transfer here and I'd still be saying, "Let's see how it pans out before we get too excited..."

It has been clear for awhile that the aftermath of this season was going to be an absolute zoo given the free year/free transfer rules.  There will be dozens if not hundreds of players in the transfer portal, plus grad transfers, JUCOs, etc.  Every school is going to be affected positively, negatively, or both.

My expectation is that the core (and probably the vast majority) of the SJU roster will remain intact, but there will certainly be at least some turnover for us as there is with every program every year.  You could start with the scheduled departures of Dunn and Toro, the anticipated arrivals of Nyiwe, Pinzon, Traore and Stanley, and the possible departure of Moore.  There could well be additional changes as players evaluate their situations, priorities, and opportunities.

The point of this thread is to make the following point:  Regardless of how things fall out in this unprecedented offseason, I have confidence that Coach Anderson and the staff will return all of their key players, add any necessary replacements, and that when the dust settles SJU will be predicted to finish in the top half of the league next season and make the NCAA tournament.

Bump.

The "vast majority" part was clearly wrong (though Posh, Wusu, Nyiwe and Champagnie isn't nothing, and if Greg comes back it's close enough).

But the confidence that the staff would add appropriate replacements (thus far Smith, Wheeler, and Soriano) seems pretty solid.
