Coaching Changes

Rhode Island's Danny Hurley 'in play' for Georgetown head coaching job, SN source says

that would be a coup for the big east if Gtown got Shaka

Leaving big bad football Texas and the Big 12 for Georgetown and thebasketball only Big East would send a message loud and clear that we are a power conference.

For SJU's sake, I hope they tap Ewing, Sr., not so great for the BE itself, but we'd have one less team to jump over.

There is a reason why Sr. has not gotten a HC job in the NBA.

Danny Hurley would recruit NJ hard so I don't want him there.

If it is Smart, the NY area recruiting doesn't matter.

MY question is how pissed IS the big Fella'? They gave his son a long tenure, so maybe not that much. I happen to think JTIII is probably well suited for an Ivy or an Ivy type school, he will definitely land on his feet, like I am sure Crean will too.

Someone mentioned Cooley, I'd be surprised if Georgetown went in that direction. If they do, I think he'd do a good job there, and Georgetown being a big market team, being elite again helps the Big East.

Amaker's name has surfaced. Fits the Academics G'town projects as a great school. Crean is a very good Coach. Indiana demands Final 4's and Big 10 Championships, like every year. A function that Knight delivered . Kind of like UCLA, Kentucky in that regard.

Doubt Cooley is in the mix. Ewing Sr will get consideration but, doubtful.. Smart? Maybe.. i would love Lavin to go there! ;)

Can't see Cooley leaving Providence ... especially for another BE team.

I think that would be a bad look for all involved, and if the BE has unwritten rules that's probably one of them.

In my know-nothing opinion Gtwn won't be interested in Amaker or Crean and Cooley wouldn't even be discussed. Smart would be a major coup then Hurley next option. I heard Miller's name mentioned early but haven't since so maybe he just isn't an option. As I recall he got a salary boost last year but still not enough to keep him from being poached. Ewing would be something St Johns would do but not Gtwn unless they get into a placate John Thompson rut.

BREAKING: Cal will promote assistant Wyking Jones to head coach, per a source. Was on staff with Cuonzo Martin. Also worked for Rick Pitino.

Sounds like a strange move regardless of the history but I could see it especially having to deal with: 1) UCLA dickhead fans 2) LaVar Ball

Hope it's true. Want them to keep their hands off Mack. If he goes home and fails, though, it will be tough for all involved.
