I have no problem with Archie Miller instead. It could well turn out that he would be a better choice than Howland in the long run, though I think Howland was about as close to a sure thing as you could possibly get. And I wouldn't jump up and down, have a tantrum, or stomp my feet about Bobby Hurley.

Just no more Lavin, please.

@ESPNAndyKatz: Howland tried to get Marquette and Virginia Tech a year ago but to no avail. Miss State can pay him enough. Makes sense if it gets done.

While Howland was my first choice as well, there are other very good candidates ready to lead the program.

I won't get on the school too hard on potentially losing out on Howland. If reports are accurate, the Miss St. deal came together quickly because Adidas helped expedite it.

I am pleased with this news. I really didn't want Howland here and him at Depaul would have scared the hell out of me with some of their young talent.

I have read similar thoughts from others where they didn't want Howland here, but were worried about how he would make DePaul a pain in the rear end to play against.

SJU will be young next year, and I think Howland would hit the ground running and land a couple of good kids here before the season. He was on TV, and kids do know him and how successful his teams were. Lavin used TV to recruit his first class here.

My question is what is the big difference between SJU and DePaul? Both programs need stability, are located in large urban cities, have a history, and not to mention they are Vincentian (if that is of importance).

I don't think it Is geography. Howland was successful in many directions, east, west, Midwest and he is about to take a job in the south.

I am not picking on you. I am curious as to why that is. If someone can coach, they can coach.
 
I was not a Howland fan. For many reasons..The contingent that never wants another Manhattan Coach should also recoil from another UCLA coach..

Howland has a good Resume but, it will be difficult to win in the SEC, especially with Cal at Kentucky. And, Ole Miss is still the Program in this State
 
School will have to move quickly or else we won't have a feasible choice.

Not even half what Nick Saban earns.

The state of Alabama may be last or near the bottom in many things but not coaching salaries.

The credit for that line, by the way, belongs to John Oliver.
