Coaching Carousel

If all players return Fordham could have its best team in quite a while but the problem in turning the program around is the A10 is a tough league comprised of teams that take college bb seriously.
Masiello and Cluess get all the raves but the MAAC is a low mid major comprised of two or three teams that take back seriously.

Yeah, but the guy up in Providence has had a couple of good years.

St. John's is a coaching carousel.

1991-1992 - Carnesecca
1992-1996 - Mahoney (Fired)
1996-1998 - Fraschilla (Fired)
1998-2003 - Jarvis (Fired mid-season)
2003-2004 - Clark (Fired)
2004-2010 - Roberts (Fired)
2010-???? - Lavin ?????

There is something to be said for continuity and how it often translates to success. See the NY FOOTBALL GIANTS.

Didn't they miss the playoffs the last 2 years?

NY guy may get a shot;

@RobDauster: Opens the door for Chris Caputo RT @WojYahooNBA Sources: Celtics assistant Jay Larranaga has declined to become a candidate at George Mason

fwiw… have a friend whose son played for Howland. According to them both, Howland was as big a jerk as they come. And nasty.

yes can confirm the same thing....an asshole of the highest order.

Looks like we finally have a coaching assessment that everyone can agree on. :)

from the article:

Meantime, St. Benedict’s Prep guard Eli Cain had committed to Purnell just before he was fired and his status remains in limbo.

do we put the full court press on this kid then?

I know you are not a Lavin fan but this would absolutely grant your wish to see Lavin fired. ;)
You have given Lav the official malocchio with Eli Cain. If he takes up your recommendation he will definitely 100% be terminated.
He decomitted from Delaware because Monte Hall is a lame duck, committed to DePaul and Purnell is gone. Bad things happen in 3's.

"Two months after committing to Delaware Cain, who attends St. Benedict’s Prep in New Jersey, reopened his recruitment with the contract status of head coach Monte Ross impacting that decision. Cain played for the Playaz Basketball Club at the grassroots level, with one of his teammates being Kentucky signee Isaiah Briscoe."

i think changing the culture of the athletic department and hiring competent people rather than allowing the likes of Kathy Meehan and Chris Monasch remain employed as the heads of the athletic...would go a long way in helping change the direction of the basketball program.

we need leaders in the athletic department that have a plan or a vision for sju....the current cast of characters are utter buffoons who couldnt go to the store and buy the newspaper - the idea that they "lead" our university's athletic department is a large scale disaster that needs to change.

:p

In that case, sign him up!! :p

Fordham should have never left the MAAC for the Patriot League years ago. They pretty much felt that the Academic mission of the schools in the Patriot League better fit their profile and left the MAAC where they were at the very least a solid program. Without the schollies (like the Ivy League, no Athletic Scholarships in the MAAC), their basketball program took a downtown. They were never any good in the Patriot league and finally was able to get in the A10 who wanted a NY presence. Fordham is still swimming against the tide. The MAAC was a perfect level for them and think of the home and home rivalries with Manhattan and Iona every year.

We already had one of the biggest jackarses as a coach, Mike Jarvis. And no one cared his first two years because the program was successful. Howland can coach and get players.

In am all in on Howland. I don't care about who's feelings he hurts. A lot of nasty SOBS are coaches. Heck for years we had to watch two of the nastiest coaches, Boeheim and Calhoun constantly, kick our rear ends.

No thanks
I don't want a retread
I want a young guy whose star is on the rise
I read somewhere that Howland turned down a few opportunities
He thought, incorrectly, that he could do better
I don't think the "big boys" will be knocking his door down anytime soon

You know a Catholic guy named John Paul? :p
