Coaching Carousel

Those Koch suckers are real fracking gasholes.

But I love Marshall, so glad he realized the perfect job right now is the one he already has.
After the Witchita State/Kansas game, during the handshakes, he stopped and had a few words with Norm. It seemed to be more than the usual "good game". It makes one wonder.

Shaka to Texas. Official.

Wow.

He will do well at UT. Barnes was always a bit underwhelming to me. Some good recruiting classes but not so great results. Apparently Smart could have had the UCLA job? If Charlie Strong can get the UT football team back on track, the Longhorn fans won't put too much pressure on Smart... that's just the way it is in Austin. Faith, Family, Football.

At some point you'd have to wonder who would want to go to UCLA and deal with those expectations where success can still be considered failure?

These moves really do highlight the reason why Coach Mullin to St. John's was expertly timed. We got the coach who wanted to come here and brought amazing energy and attention instantly, versus sitting back and letting a committee vet candidates, a number of whom were either looking for lucrative extensions or premier resources and facilities, which would allow the coaches to dictate to recruits which destinations were better based on their decisions. Congrats to Coach Smart and Marshall, see you in the postseason.

Interesting:

@ChipBrownHD: Confirmed with #VCU that Shaka Smart has $500K buyout and per Smart's contract new school (#Texas) must play VCU home and home or pay $250K.

@EvanDaniels: Source tells Scout that Richard Pitino was heavily in the mix for the Alabama job, but will stay at Minnesota.

Well although I wanted VCU in the Big East for a while, I'm now glad they're not in. I'm not saying they'll be bad, but without Smart it'll take some time for them to rebuild. They may never get back to where they were under Smart

They werent horrible under Grant or Capel

Or any coach in the last 40 years for that matter. All of their coaches since 1968 were above 500

I wouldn't be shocked to see Mack go to either Georgia, South Carolina, or UConn now. He was closer to going to the former than he was the latter two from what I was told. His older brother played for Mark Fox at Nevada several years ago.

But if he is released, then I'd certainly target him. He can stroke it from deep. He doesn't need much room to get it off, either.

@Joshua_Newman: I'm told Manhattan associate head coach Rasheen Davis will not be leaving for Fordham. Name had been floated about after Jeff Neubauer hire

Not horrible but not Big East material.

Was Butler, Creighton?

So what other east coast school would merit inclusion into the league if it were to expand -- knowing that no FBS school will be accepted (UConn, Temple, UMass) and no other same-market school (St. Joe's, URI, GW)?

Not much to choose from unless you are content with making this a midwestern-heavy conference.

I agree there's not much of a selection. I'd still take Butler and Creighton over VCU, but in terms of new additions.... Maybe still VCU, but I'd put Dayton and Gonzaga (however unlikely) before VCU.

Basically, there's not many good or realistic options so I'd say hold off. We need teams that would clearly be great additions.

For east coast, I think VCU, George Mason, Davidson, UMass are really the options.

Better fits school-wise (but perhaps not geographically) would be Dayton and SLU perhaps.

-Mason is out because GTown is not going to share the same market.
-UMass is out because it plays FBS football
