I would love Gonzaga even though it certainly isn't east. Dayton would be good as well.

Just wait for UConn to abandon its football aspirations and rejoin the league. Then add Dayton or St. Louis.

No Yukon. Must wait for the Calhoun stench to subside.

We need Uconn and they need us. Down grade of the football program and prohibitive buy out are musts for BE side

Not until we have enough season ticket holders so that there are only a couple of thousand garden seats available, I hated getting overrun and making MSG away games to certain teams, UCONN especially

Well although I wanted VCU in the Big East for a while, I'm now glad they're not in. I'm not saying they'll be bad, but without Smart it'll take some time for them to rebuild. They may never get back to where they were under Smart

They werent horrible under Grant or Capel

Or any coach in the last 40 years for that matter. All of their coaches since 1968 were above 500

Not horrible but not Big East material.

Was Butler, Creighton?

So what other east coast school would merit inclusion into the league if it were to expand -- knowing that no FBS school will be accepted (UConn, Temple, UMass) and no other same-market school (St. Joe's, URI, GW)?

Not much to choose from unless you are content with making this a midwestern-heavy conference.

VCU is a State School with and enrollment over 20K. If BE were to expand they would go for several of the private schools from the A10 first even with Smart still being there. Of course, none of the schools will be FBS.

Disagree. We need more fans at the Garden for the BET, watching Fox, etc. I think VCU had a good chance, adding another small school adds nothing.

Smart's contract at Texas is for seven years, the first six of which are guaranteed, for roughly $3 million a year, Patterson said

@GoodmanESPN: Sources told ESPN that VCU likely to hire Chattanooga coach Will Wade tomorrow. No offer yet, but heading that way.

@GoodmanESPN: Jeff Capel is the frontrunner for Arizona State, but sources told ESPN that former ASU assistant Scott Pera interviewed with AD on Saturday.

@GaryParrishCBS: Jeff Capel has removed himself from consideration at Arizona State, an ASU source told @CBSSports. Story coming.

Former SH AC;

@GoodmanESPN: Eastern Kentucky hiring Minnesota assistant Dan McHale, source told ESPN. Cincinnati's Larry Davis was the other finalist.

Not that it's of much consequence, but that sounds like some Pitino back-room dealing.

Wonder if K gave him an official countdown, or if he just didn't like what he saw at ASU.

I think it might just be from an emotional high after last night.

"Gurus" on TV last night said ASU is a bad job
Poor facilities, lack of commitment to the program, proximity to U of A,...

Like the choice?

Wade was Smart's first hire as an assistant 6 years ago (at age 26)
Stayed 4 years, has been at Chattanooga for 2 years (40-25 record)
They brought him back to VCU because they are committed to playing Smart's style
