@GaryParrishCBS: Jeff Capel has removed himself from consideration at Arizona State, an ASU source told @CBSSports. Story coming.

Wonder if K gave him an official countdown, or if he just didn't like what he saw at ASU.

"Gurus" on TV last night said ASU is a bad job
Poor facilities, lack of commitment to the program, proximity to U of A,...

Duke is such a top notched organization clicking on all cylinders. When I was in Charlotte, my hotel was the host hotel for Duke (not surprising as a #1 seed, they got a place 5 blocks from the arena and a Westin to boot). For the entire weekend every visible hotel employee was wearing Duke t-shirts, which I'm sure was provided for free to every hotel employee. It's a tiny detail, but it shows just how prepared Duke is and the kind of infrastructure their athletic department has. To leave Duke and walk into a mess when your trajectory is higher, can be startling.

The soon-to-be MVP of the NBA would probably argue this.

Some, but not all, of the employees at the team hotel wore SJU tees even on Saturday after the loss. Front desk had a couple of bobbleheads on it as well. We were close too, only 5 (miles) from the arena :p

Avery Johnson just gave a very enthusiastic introductory press conference at the university of Alabama. Very bubbly, uplifting personality. Class act, started by thanking his previous employers and co-workers at ESPN. From New Orleans, went to Southern, just had his son who played AAU ball and went threw the recruiting process so he claims he will know how to recruit. Has very high aspirations to bring Bama to top of the college basketball heap. Bama is actually second to Kentucky in terms of college basketball accomplishments. C. M. Newton and Wimp Sanderson attended. Broke down when talking about his old coach at Southern Ben Jobe, who also was present. Prioritizing recruiting state of Alabama. I promise to reread this post numerous times as I realize I am probabl the only poster on this board who gives a hoot about Bama hoops. :)

@GaryParrishCBS: Bobby Hurley has emerged as a serious candidate at Arizona State, sources told @CBSSports. Some sources have identified him as the leader.

Will be interesting to see how he does if he lands there. Don't think that place is a good job. He might have been better off passing on that one. If he succeeds I think it will tell you that he is gonna be a really good one.

It seems like UB is returning a lot of guys and has a decent class coming in. If I'm Bobby I stay with UB for another year, hope for a similar results and pray that a decent Big 12, Big 10, or Big East job opens up. Going to toe to toe with Arizona is going to be up hill battle to say the least.

Very interesting that a Duke guy (Capel), who is an assistant coach and a recycled head coach who is really looking to get "back in the game" is not interested in the job but another Duke guy (Hurley) who is a head coach and whose star is clearly on the rise (right now) is interested

You would think they both get advice from Coach K about job opportunities
The above scenario just doesn't make sense to me
And, as Judge Judy would say, if it doesn't make sense, it's probably not true
I don't see Hurley going to ASU
Having said that, watch him take the job

Maybe Capel is looking to replace Coach K in the next couple of years.

Local guy gets an opportunity;

@JonRothstein: VCU's Will Wade will hire Manhattan's Rasheen Davis as an assistant coach, sources told @CBSSports. Strong NYC ties.

Not good for Mas

Not good for Mas

Mas set his own career back years with the scandal, so it was a good time for Davis to unhitch the wagon.

I am not so sure about Mas
Made NCAA's this year
People are very forgiving if you are successful
Look at LI's own George O'Leary
Canned @ ND - doing very well for himself at UCF

Had to flee college for a couple years of penance, though. And he's making a nice living, but he did go from Notre Dame to UCF. I don't think anyone touches Mas for a few years, and his next job may not be as good as VCU, so I think Davis made the right choice.

Katz high on the hire:

@ESPNAndyKatz: ASU search is a good example of getting the right guy even if it takes time. Bobby Hurley will bring new energy to the job.
