Matt Norlander just reported today that he heard Calipari had been reaching out to schools as early as February making it known he would be interested in listening to them.
Including Ohio St. Evidently Ohio St was interested but they had made it clear they wanted a coach in place before the NCAA Tournament.
Cal thought he had a good team and was going to make a deep run and so the timing just did not work.

If Cal and Ky broke up last year and Cal was willing to come to SJU the board would have rejected him but would Father Shanley signed him?

I personally would have been all for it. Everyone knows about him being 95 percent recruiting and 5 percent coaching, but would have been perfectly fine with witnessing it for myself for a decade. We needed an infusion badly, and maybe the only two guys who could have given it were Cal and Pitino.

I don't want to doubt anything he wrote but he's wrong A LOT. And he seems to have a particular agenda in his posting history. Just my 2 cents.
SIAP but has anybody been discussing this? This account has been accurate before. I hope it’s not true but I’d be kidding myself if I didn’t think that sounds a lot like something the St John’s I know would be doing.

Rick also said this would be his last job he lives here is from here and is invested. Trust me for Rick it's not about the money but the love of coaching. He loves the big east. He is not reclaiming at his age . Don't worry

The Tre Mitchell of Kentucky coaching change tour is complete.
He spent 5 years at 4 different schools.
After 2 years at UMASS he transferred to Texas. A year later Matt McCall was fired at UMASS.
Then spent 1 year at Texas. Chris Beard gets fired he goes into the Portal and transfers to WVU.
Then 1 year later Bob Huggins is dismissed and Mitchell is back in the Portal.
This past year he finishes at Kentucky and lo and behold....

Kentucky would have to get a lot of "no's" before they got to Pitino. So if you're a Pitino guy, I wouldn't worry about this opening. That being said Pitino will jump at a better offer without batting an eye.

Who knows if these travel issues are real? If not getting accommodations in providence is real, that's minor league and on St. John's. If Rick Pitino decided he wanted to go golfing on Long Island and then expected the school to pay for a helicopter to get to his job, that's just another Rick ego trip. The most concerning part of this whole thing (again big IF it's true) is Rick whinging about how hard the job is.
