Coaching Carousel

Either Nate Oats or Scott Drew would be at the top of any lists...but I'd speculate Bobby Hurley Jr would be in the mix. Something about pedigree Kentuckians understand.

Yes and he would be fired before the contract was ever signed.

He would not have the job of UK AD for more than 5 minutes after an agreement was reached.

Again how many mid major coaches could I name that you could theoretically make the argument that with better resources they could do a good job? That is literally dozens of coaches?
Except Holloway is a high-major coach, who was picked to finish 9th in the Big East this year and he finished 4th. Everyone knows that Seton Hall got screwed out of a Dance bid this year.

Sure you can make that case for anyone you like. I like Holloway. That Seton Hall roster was shaky (and that is a nice way of putting it) and he still won 13 Big East games, got screwed by the committee, and then still rallied his team won the NIT. I think he's a great coach.

Taking a risk on a younger/up and coming coach before they have a huge resume has been happening in sports for eons. I don't think it'd be as big an outrage as you assume

My first candidates would be:
Drew at Baylor
Oats at Alabama
Hurley at UCONN
Few at Gonzaga
Donovan with NBA

If they say no:
Miller at Xavier
Pearl at Auburn
Otzelberger at Iowa state

If they go past those seven, their search becomes a debacle

But it was about resources. SHU has the resources in many respect of a mid major. Also you can make the case they got screwed but at best they were a play-in team in the NCAAT. That is because they got blown out a lot and did nothing in the non-conference. Their last 3 losses in league were by a combined 70 points.

That is hardly something that makes him qualified for at Kentucky.

"I almost made the play-in game and have 2 NIT appearances. I would kill it at a school that just pushed out a guy who won 410 games in 15 years at UK and whose fan base thinks it is their right to got to a Final Four every year."

Does that sound remotely plausible?

I don't think people understand what it is involved in Kentucky job. I love Holloway. That is not a job for him by any stretch of the imagination.

I don't even think it's a job for Otzelberger, despite his name being floated around.

There are only two handfuls of coaches who have the skill set that is required to succeed there and only one handful that might actually be suitable. Honestly I'm not even sure about Oats although I do think he's the best fit. Hurley or Self, sure - but I don't see them taking the job. Drew, yes. Miller, yes.

After that? A whole lot of "I dunno about this..."

I think miller would be fantastic

There are a lot of coaches you can make an argument with bigger budgets and more resources could theoretically do what you are saying.

I could list other coaches in the MAC and Missouri Valley etc. So what?

Why is Holloway the only one you seem to think is good enough? And more importantly by that definition if Bill Self went to the NBA are you saying Kansas should take a look at him? Because by that definition he is qualified for that job or any job.

My God can you imagine if Kentucky had not blown an 8 point lead late in round 1 of the NCAAT in 2022. Or if Dawes had not hit a late 3 to put the first round NIT game into OT vs St. Joe's?

I can assure you if UK hired Holloway there would be a riot in Lexington and the AD and Administration would be barred from ever entering the state again.
One can play what ifs with sports results forever; the year Providence went to the FF under Pitino they played 14th seed Austin Peay in the 2nd round, they had upset Illinois in their 1st game. Anyway, Peay was on the line, tied with 2 seconds left and missed the front end. Providence wins in OT. It goes in and the legend of Rick Pitino has a different trajectory.
I agree Kentucky does not even sniff a Holloway but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t win there.

Mike Anderson won COY because he took a team projected to finish like 9th in the BE and led them to a fourth place finish in the league.

Again I like Sha but I can’t tell if you actually think this, are trolling or should be on their message board instead. If the latter, they can use you with their 120 fans.

This is exactly right.

One 4th place finish does not make you qualified for Kentucky.

That wasn't my point. I wasn't merely claiming it was luck.

I am saying the mileage he is getting out of one NCAA run (that easily could have never happened) that evidently seems to want to translate into the biggest job in CBB is extraordinary.

It does not compute.

"I also took a MAAC team with peanuts for resources and beat you guys on my way to the Elite Eight".

Hard to believe he wouldn't be successful with a resource rich program. Not saying Kentucky should look at him, but wouldn't be totally unfathomable.
