Coaching Carousel

I think all three of those coaches are better than Will Wade.
They need to get Will Wade on the horn. Their only hope is a reclamation project. In their fantasy world they should hope to get Wade for 3-4 years until he gets DePaul to be a bubble team and leaves for greener pastures. Then they can hope their next "next hire" can be a DePaul lifer.
all three of those guys would be better for DePaul but why on earth would a they take the DePaul job?

It’s a tough sell for DePaul. Pitino is here because of his past and also his age. It was a unique situation, to put it nicely. Even a guy like Wade doesn’t equal that, he has age on his side and can wait for a better job.

Before the idea of Pitino became feasible go look at the names we were floating. James Jones, Robert Jones, and some other guys not named Jones. I actually mentioned Grasso!

I hope for the Big Easts sake they get someone great but it won’t be easy.

Wade will go there and stay for three years (maybe) and hopefully doesn’t leave your program hanging with NCAA violations (and if anyone can still find ways to break the rules with NIL, it’s Wade).
As we learned last year desperate times call for extremely desperate measures. Some times you hire a guy with an enormously checkered past, pray he doesn’t run afoul of the NCAA again, hope he doesn’t lose you a lawsuit, and keep your figures crossed during his press conferences and social media ramblings.

I'd say the same question applies to Will Wade. He can wait a year and get a job in the SEC probably.

DeVries should definitely wait for a better job. Holtmann apparently wants a promise of 3mill in NIL, which would be like a 500% increase to what they have now. I think that's a fair condition. Mack, I think, could take the job because he'd stay local, he's a control freak and will likely be able to exert all of the control he wants, and it's in his wheelhouse of a Midwestern catholic/private basketball-first school.

I would agree with your assessment. I just think Wade is still one Iona away from his return to a power six school.

DePaul could rent him and hope for, at best, a couple years to try to make their job more desirable on the national stage.

DePaul getting back to the Meyer years is going to be a tremendous undertaking.

I think if Wade is on his best behavior and dominates with McNese one more year, he'll get a crack somewhere. His only real blemishes are doing things that are now legal. There was more with Pitino... lol

If he waits one more year, maybe he can go to a Missouri, Georgia, Florida State, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, etc. level job. Honestly, I think his best fit would be West Virginia but it's available one year too early. The other school that would be the perfect fit is Memphis -- they just have to fall apart again, which is definitely possible.

If Sean Miller could go from Arizona to Xavier, should be safe for Wade to go to DePaul under current landscape.

Most say Mike Boynton is a good guy, but his days at Oklahoma State are numbered, team getting soundly beat by UCF in Big 12 T game w a few minutes to go.

I have no idea who would take the DePaul job. I can't see Moser committing career suicide just to go back to Chicago.

Only thing I can think of is that they try to catch lightening in a bottle with some hot young coach who is looking to move up the conference ladder, make some more money, and figures whatever he does will look good in comparison to Stubbs and Leitao.

I have no idea who that guy is - there are better jobs waiting for Speedy. Maybe some midwest mid-major coach.

Maybe the guy from Norfolk State? I think he is in early to mid 40s.
