Coaching Carousel

A few things for sanity:

1)He has not taken another job yet so all of this is premature and

2)Are some fans being classless by rooting for him to leave and being negative about him?  Yes.  I do not condone nor defend it. But if you think if (and it is only an if now) Mike Anderson leaves for Tulsa it is a result of these tweets or posts you are wrong.  There are a number of factors in play. Those are not one of them.

Read she’s an alum as well.

Welp, I laways said Van Macon would make a fine coach one day.
Except I didn't mean today.
Or here.

No idea on that, I just know they met in college.

Also, from what I'm hearing is CMA is not as keen on Tulsa as some think, they've passed on him before when he was actually interested.  Like anything else take that with a grain of salt, in coaching rumors you never know what to believe.

Regardless of how you feel about him, Anderson leaving is not what's best for the program.

Much better to have him retain our core, bring in an impact transfer or two, and develop the incoming freshmen.

100% spot on. Plus there is no guarantee whoever the replacement is would even be an upgrade. We saw what candidates were lined up last time around.

I agree, but the last time around we had two guys trying to neuter Cragg. One of those guys is gone, and the second guy may not have the ear of the new guy like he had the ear off the old guy.

I'd like to think CMA made the job more appealing than it was three years ago, but I don't want to find out yet.

Always a crazy time between transfer portal and coaching changes exacerbated by social media and rumors.  May be smart to let the dust settle a few days.

Sure that’s the smart thing to do, but if I did the smart thing I would erase my Twitter account!

Actually there were some good candidates lined up last time , Cragg just couldn’t close on any of them.

I remember one, but hard to close on a guy who declines to be interviewed.

Which is the point. A coach actually has to want to come here. There was not much interest last time around from what it appeared. There would probably be even less now.

Respectfully, to both of you gents, we have no way of knowing if we'll be better off or worse off. Now, I'm not pushing for CMA to leave, but if he does, I will not loose a minute sleep over it. And if Shanley and Cragg are all that they are cracked up to be, then the two of them will be able to make a solid coaching hire.

According to many, Shanley and Cragg are the best Pres/AD combo that the school has ever had. Surely if anyone is going to make the right coaching hire, it's the 2 of them. At least that's the way I see it. Again, this is if CMA decides to leave for Tulsa, but I am not advocating for that to happen.

You are correct. I just personally feel that if CMA leaves, there will be a mass exodus and decommits. However, that could easily happen even if he stays.

CMA has to stay.  I don’t think I have another coaching transition period left in me.  Coach, just get this kids to hit their free throws and make those bunnies.

Maybe we can do things right this time and finally hire the Yale coach guy.

I remember when you "liked Steve Lavin and thought he did some pretty good things here".

You would post that one sentence and it would generate six pages of heated debate.

Fr. Shanley gave Keno Davis a contract extension after his first season at Providence.  He was gone after 3rd year.
