wow, that would suck for Bona to lose their coach to a conference rival.

That's why it is not a good mix to have private, and particularly urban or catholic, colleges in the same conference as a state's flagship state university.  Like the BE with UConn.

Patrick Ewing has made a key staff addition. Georgetown has hired Kevin Nickelberry as an assistant, I am told. Announcement expected today. Nickelberry was most recently the interim HC at LSU to end the season. Assisted with Tigers from 2019-22, HC at Howard 2010-19. DC ties.

As long as he doesn't carry any of the NCAA stink from the Wade mess at LSU it is a big time hire.

Guy has major recruiting connections.

After I saw him coach the NCAA Tourney game I was thinking he was probably going to land at another SEC school.

LSU had a great recruiting class and all have reopened their recruitment, plus plenty of talent may enter the portal with Wade gone. Told Freshman Brandon Murray, who is from the DC area entered the portal today.

I will also say based on their efforts against Iowa St it didn't appear the players were trying to go on a run to keep Nickelberry as their coach.

in the past Ewing’s issue has been retaining players, not recruiting them.

No it has been a little bit of both.  They have whiffed on a number of key kids in the DMV region.  That is why it is important for Willard at Maryland to have a real heavy hitter of a recruiter on his staff with ties to that region.

Would love to have SJU have someone with ties to that area.  Jay Wright recruits that area heavy as well.

If Ewing can survive past this coming year Nickelberry will be a huge asset to him in that area.  Coached at Hampton (Virgina) and Howard (DC).  Knows the area very well.  And as I stated in another thread if he can get those 3 LSU kids to ALL transfer to Georgetown and play immediately then he is already paying dividends.

Michael Lewis, current UCLA assistant, who played at IU and was on the staff at Butler is headed back to Indiana but not for Butler, going to Ball St to be next HC.
