Coaching Carousel

Seth Davis;

“Want to play coaching dominos?

As soon as Seton Hall's season ends....

Kevin Willard to Maryland.
Shaheen Holloway to Seton Hall.

Consider it a highly educated guess.”
how are excited are Maryland fans about hiring a coach that is 1-5 in the NCAA and just put up a pathetic 42 pts?

Lol, Willard talks about his next job mere MOMENTS after the Hall loses.
I wouldn't wait for him to leave. I'd fire him on the spot.

Willard on job rumors: "When I get home tomorrow I will discuss things with my agent. I'll be honest: If I'm not here next year, if Shaheen Holloway is here, that would be the happiest thing that ever happened to me"

Some may hate this, but a little bit of me appreciate the honesty. We get on coaches all the time for speaking like coaches.

It’s not honesty.
It’s disrespectful to every kid on the Hall.
What if Posh started talking about transfer destinations in the locker room after the Nova loss? He’d be vilified in this board and throughout college bball for disloyalty, old men shaking their heads on the modern athlete.
Meanwhile, Willard will no doubt go to Maryland on Monday and talk about “molding men” and the sanctity of the “student athlete” while cashing checks that none of his players will ever see in their lifetime.

I agree with you to a point.  Discussing or hinting at his departure and successor in the post game locker room is a bit too far.  However, college coaches make big money that players won't see and that's the way it is.  Everyone of those young players has an opportunity to go into coaching after their playing career.  It's free enterprise.  If you want a high paying job......go get it.

I get it but it seems like we’re talking about two different issues.

Would you be fine if Willard said point blank I’m the head coach of Seton Hall and then on Monday accepted the Maryland job?

Roy Williams did pretty much the same thing at Kansas and then took the NC job.

Roy Williams was barraged with questions on live national TV following Kansas loss in the NC game. He refused to speak about it citing all his players in the locker room who played their asses off for him.

As for working hard to get where you are…. Willard was born with every advantage to enter and succeed in college ball thanks to his dad. And there but for tge grace of Tiny goes he.

Anyway, I’m old school. I prefer the body is in the ground before hooking up.

Whatever one thinks of Willards answer about himself - tossing in Holloway was classless. Imagine SJU was playing today (I wonder if you can) and last night Jamie Dixon is saying he hopes he can leave and CMA gets the TCU job.

Okay, yes you would all be happy. But it would still be classless.

Per Rothstein

Sources: Xavier is targeting Sean Miller to return as the school's next head basketball coach.

The two sides met on Friday.

Miller has also been prioritized by South Carolina to fill its head coaching vacancy.

Some of the comments on here are comical.  Willard in his heart knows he is leaving, and stated that he would be talking to his agent.

As for his comments about Holloway, I respect that. All he did was put the name of a former loyal assistant who helped him at Iona and Seton Hall, get his name out front for the Seton Hall job at the best possible time. Not sure why anyone has a problem with this. No one on here has any idea what Willard said to his players and coaches after the game.

A week ago, Frank Haith was fired and then rumors started regarding Coach Anderson. Immediately, rumors started that he was going to take the Tulsa job. He is from Tulsa, wrong, he is from Birmingham, Alabama. He and his wife hate NYC and can't wait to leave, wrong, they have enjoyed their time here and are very happy. Additionally, their daughter Yvonne has signed with the Connecticut Sun after playing overseas for several years and they look forward to seeing her in person. On Sunday, Coac and the team were hoping for an NIT bid which did not materialize. On Tuesday, he reiterated his commitment to St. Johns. Some on here were all bent out of shape behind this, because "they" wanted an immediate response to rumors and statements from "reliable" sources claiming that Coach Anderson was definitely leaving. Some were demanding that Mike Cragg force Coach Anderson to issue a disclaimer about something that was not true. LMAO.

Two coaches, two statements, I respect the way both handled their situations. I think some on here forget that we are talking about grown men who have achieved a level of success in their profession. They do not answer to Redmen.com.

Do you think Willard’s honesty may have caused his team to no-show last night?

As in WhyTF should I bust my ass for a guy with two feet out the door?

Pretty much nailed it. The CMA thing of not liking living here was ridiculous and pretty much you were the only one talking about their daughter playing in CT.

Panther's points are fair, but doesn't mean that he wouldn't/didn't consider (if offered) with the right deal.
