Coaching Alternatives

Do you honestly think that Mullin was the lone voice in the wilderness when the wheels were coming off the Lavin regime?
Never said that. But let's not put something like that below Chris Mullin like a certain poster feels so strongly about.
I don't know other names who inquired
No knowledge of if, when or how Mullin contacted SJU but I do know the school sent out “if we change coaches” feelers well before the season ended in Lavin’s last year because I am very good friends with a coach who was having low level D1 success at the time who was contacted. Not at all an unusual thing for schools to do.
Can you find out if those feelers have gone out now?
Anyone on the board at the end of Lavin’s stint knows I had no love lost for the man. I never posted anything then about Lavin’s job and wouldn’t now about Mullin.

When you make that assertion can you provide details of who he reached out to and when. I have a pretty reasonable take on how this went down but since you are making an assertion you shouldn't be hesitant to put some detail to that.
I can say whatever I want here and provide as little or as much information as I want. I don't brag about the connections and the people I've met and known and talked to. Sorry if this comes off blunt and curt but it's been long overdue
I will reference people I know and if that bothers you I'm sorry. You gave up your tickets long ago and your contact is long gone from sju.

The only speculation that has ever been made was around Mullins hof induction in February of lavins last year. I do know for certain that lavins fate was not decided till after the season.

Years ago Gary Carter publicly verbalized his interest in the mets job while the manager was under contract, which angered a lot of people.

So I'm very interested why you would assert that mullin lobbied for this job while Lavin was under contract. I don't believe it went down like that so I think it's fair you explain yourself rather than throw shit out there and not back it up.

Stop making every interaction personal. It's sad
One of the worst mistake I ever made was meeting people on this site. It's a fan message board. Anonymity should be paramount. I wish I could go back in time.
If you think that's my only connection to SJU you are sorely mistaken
I'm on the border of being done with this site and you are pretty much the main reason.
Why don't you go hassle the others who heard the same as me. Probably because you just enioy making it personal with people you know is my guess.
Next time you have the precious interactions with the staff I'd encourage you to ask why the HC hasn't bothered to speak to a recruit like Curbelo. That was mentioned by Curbelo. In an article. Is that enough or should I find a recorded conversation ?

If anything , much closer to truth.

What this staff has or hasn't done is fair game to discuss imo, and at this point all I care about is results and it's clear they aren't good enough.

I haven't defended our play which was horrendous down the stretch given our starting 5's talent.

I have low tolerance for personal shots against staff or player's character which is what you were doing and you know it.

In addition to that low tolerance you love to get personal. When people no longer go to games. When people donate or not. Hell you posted someones address or their mailbox or something at one point. I mean come on. Get off the soapbox

How is it a shot at the staff if what Moose is saying is true, though?

If he hasn't heard it then it can't be true. Those are the rules. Next time I see the person who told me I'm gonna call them a liar.

Hey look. You made a strong accusation that mullin lobbied for a job that wasn't available. I asked you to provide more detail if you are going to make an accusation, and. YOU got personal. So I gave it back to you.

I asked him to qualify the accusation. That's all and he went off

I wonder if former Duke assistant coaches: Bobby Hurley, Tommy Amaker, Johnny Dawkins or even current assistants Nate James or Jon Scheyer would be guys Cragg would consider hiring if Mullin resigned given his Duke background.

Scheyer and James have no HC experience and Amaker sucks, so hopefully none of them.
Hurley and Dawkins are decent, big upgrades from Mullin but I don't think either will ever be really great. I think there are better options

Better options in general?
Oates? Cluess? His players love Dawkins. Might be a good choice.
And if the refs were legit, UCF would be dancin’ in the Sweet 16.

If and when we have a head coach opening, Dawkins would not be a bad choice imho except I'd prefer a younger up and coming guy if possible.

Hopefully not he struggled to make the tournament at Stanford. UCF is the right level for him. We can do better.

I think the nightmare scenario is if Mullin really does stay then he resists any staff changes or effort on the recruiting trail...and Cragg gives in allowing it. The definition of insanity IMO. I just saw Cal fired their coach after 2 yrs and ate the rest of the contract. I know we don't have Cal money, but maybe something could be negotiated and a donor comes up big. We aren't as poor as many think especially with record ticket sales probably best in decades. My fear is that we keep Mullin for another year knowing we won't compete then he leaves, all the players leave, and we missed out on Oats, Hurley, etc. I don't like Hurley's demeanor but he's certainly raised the profile at ASU and though they didn't go very far, they got as high as #3 in the nation and went to back to back NCAA's while winning a game in 1. What Hurley has done at ASU would be our best since Louie. Many also forget that he's working with a very young core of freshmen and sophs in key roles. Emphasizing youth is huge with our fanbase in giving room for error with our coaches, why isn't he afforded the same? By next year or the year after they will likely be in the top 25 all year and perhaps go deep in tourney. I like Oats but he would have to come with a very strong recruiter IMO to really succeed.
