Mullin will get his contract fulfilled. That seems clear. It’s not necessarily what the fans want but it’s gonna happen. Hopefully
Somehow we can salvage a roster and keep afloat until Mullin’s contract is through and we can move on from this coaching staff.

Yes we are. Chances are there will be others leaving. A short bench with a lot less talent is not a recipe for success.

Jack, how brave of you lol...really stuck your neck out on that one on a pro-Mullin board...and myself and others will continue to put the program first above an awful coach and continue to look at actual results instead of emotion. The Mullin can do no wrong thing is now at cult-like levels with mountains of evidence saying "oh, he sure can do lots of wrong" staring everyone in the eyes. Saying he doesn't put in effort, does not recruit, and sucks as a coach are not attacks. They are facts. 32 games below .500 in conference. Never even had a .500 conference record. I don't mean anything personal towards you...I think you're a good guy, but no one person is bigger than the program. If Cragg started making really bad decisions, he would get it too. Mullin experiment is over whether or not others want it to be.

Just saw the post from Braziller about Cragg...well this can be bluffing PC coach speak stuff or this can be true. If it's true, we just lost our best recruit because Matt left and we still haven't hired any AC's. I just don't get why you'd want to coach a guaranteed 10th place team getting blown out every night with possibly single digit wins overall. May even lose against many of the cupcakes in OOC which would make us a further mockery. Seems like some have a death wish for our program to leave him at the helm.

By the way, watch some other team swoop in now and take Hurley aka the last life boat. We are!

Mike Zaun, St. John's hasn't won an NCAA Tournament game since 2000. It's impossible for fans to have a death wish for a program that's already dead. They are completely irrelevant and decisions like today just go to reinforce it.

You speak as if things are easy as snap of a finger. If you want Mullin out so bad get out your check book and pay whats left of his contract so the school can get out of it. Also get out of other peoples pockets, "we have big donors" so what if we do. They do what they want with their money, not what you want to please you.

As I said, this is a bigger issue than just the athletic department.

So much for the Hurley-Pitino debate. :(

The big problem I see now is what credible ass't coach is actually going to want to come here? You are guaranteed 1, maybe 2 seasons at most. Why would you put your career and reputation on the line for that?

Will be interesting to see ticket sales next year. If this is true then many fans will take a big step back. Good luck with recruiting players for an 8 win team next year.

Could be that Cragg is trying to put an end to all the rumors because nothing is going to happen, but that sounds like lawyer-speak to me.

I'd guess that if Cragg admitted they were actively pursuing another coach right now, that would mean Mullin was fired and he'd be owed the remainder of his contract in full. No negotiated buyout.

I'd also guess that any contact with Hurley or any other coaching candidate has been through back channels and everyone knows where they stand on that issue. I doubt there would be interviews if Mullin resigned today. They'd pivot to their new coach because that choice had already been made.

News about coaching changes used to be put on hold over the final 4 weekend so it didn't step on the semi's and championship games. With social media today, its much harder to keep a lid on things so who knows when a move would be announced. But I'm going to be surprised if a move is announced before Tuesday. Until then its likely going to remain status quo.

If Mullin is back next year with anything less than TWO top notch recruiters being added to the staff, then its a wasted season. We'll be right back here next year, only difference is you'll have to make a move or give Mullin an extension at that point. Why waste the year? Who knows if the same options as a replacement will be available at that point?

You can’t be this negligent on purpose... seriously what is this? Did you even read my last post? Or do you just skim it and build a straw man?

I don’t put mullin above the program. I JUST SAID I don’t want him to be the coach anymore. But you brought a bunch of rumors about him holding out for money when the athletic department wants him gone. Then you bring up his net worth to try and paint him as a money hungry man who just wants his pockets to get deeper. When really you don’t know anything. And neither do I. But again your confirmation bias blinds you.

But hey we both wanted mullin gone so let’s lick our wounds cause it isn’t happening

Perhaps.

But if you wanted to put rumors to rest about your HC, would you issue a short, terse statement like that? I wouldn't.
With Willard remaining at Hall, it wouldn't surprise me to see VT target Cluess. The VT job keeps losing luster with how barren the roster will be next year, and they will probably need to poach a mid major coach.

If Mullin steps down then Cluess seems like our safety pick. I'm hoping we get Hurley but if not I don't see many solid backup plans besides Cluess. Mullin needs to finish these negotiations ASAP. We can't waste anymore time.
I don't know if Cluess is a hot candidate at this stage of his career, but I always wondered why a school like Fordham didn't offer him a raise and a chance to coach in a better conference.

Can’t be true. Kay said he heard things the other day.

This is getting pathetic. Mullin would look so weak if he comes back after all of this. Stop being so indecisive and either go all in or resign. Too late for the former so choose the latter, please.
