Coaching Alternatives

Telling others they should log off? This is a forum of adult and senior men they will do what they want. Are you shocked people are discussing rumors about our coaching on here that have been legitimized by Michael Kay? I'm not. Let everyone have at it. If you don't like the forum, anyone can log off themselves.
The bottom line is simple! Folks said Pitino would never leave Louisville because he loves the horses. His wife and him love living in Kentucky! Well thats not true cause he has been in Greece! He loves basketball!! Eats and sleeps it! One of the best teachers in the game! Did his ass coaches do shady things, yes! Did he look the other way, I am sure! Bruce Pearl got a second chance, and he has done way worse, and cried and asked for forgiveness, and look at him now! Pitino is a way better coach, a NY guy and could groom his replacement and leave us in a much better place! He did his penance and Europe loves him! He is a charasmatic coach who would pump this program like never before! The school would make sure no funny business! Are we calling for Cragg to leave because some are now saying Duke cheats? There is a press conference today where allegations are supposed to be made against Duke regarding Nike bribing kids to go to Duke! Nobody will remember that next week. Why do some here hate on Rick? Its a dirty game! How many kids did Lavin lose out on that went to Kansas now accused of cheating! Lavin lost his job, was that fair? Maybe our coaches lose interest recruiting because you cant compete when everyone is xheating! Pitino does not need to cheat! He has a track record of making kids better!!!
Being a Catholic institution I’m not sure if the alleged basketball cheating will play as big of a roadblock as his other form of cheating.

Would I sign up for it, yes, but not getting my hopes up.

This is what I see will happen. Nothing. Then there will be a bunch of posts saying we are a mom and pop operation because our unrealistic fantasies didn’t come true.

It was just a suggestion so some don’t make a fool of themselves but clearly that’s gonna happen anyway oh well

Rick is that you?

With Willard remaining at Hall, it wouldn't surprise me to see VT target Cluess. The VT job keeps losing luster with how barren the roster will be next year, and they will probably need to poach a mid major coach.

If Mullin steps down then Cluess seems like our safety pick. I'm hoping we get Hurley but if not I don't see many solid backup plans besides Cluess. Mullin needs to finish these negotiations ASAP. We can't waste anymore time.

Hey “Tom Bradley”

Have you ever met Coach Pitino ? Do you know him ?

Thanks.

You're right...I don't understand. Honestly, where are the quotes showing people have gone "crazy"? All I see are posts discussing a coaching change with the season over and tons of smoke that a major NY sports personality talked about. I still feel like we probably won't get Pitino but I go with Pitino if we can get him and then Hurley if we can't. Either of those could potentially save St. John's basketball.

So nice to see other schools three hours after their last game announce they are terminating the current coach and are beginning the search for a replacement.
SJU first has to decide;
1. Does the current coach want to return?
2. If he does do we want him back?
3. If SJU doesn't want him back how much do we have to pay him?
4. If the replacement coach coming in has to break a contract what will that cost?
5. By the time all this is done the replacement coach will find the only one left on the roster is Mitch Richmond who no other school is interested in and who is probably the main reason the current coach has to go.

Agreed. Love these high and mighty fans that tell other fans what they can and can’t discuss in a forum about St. John’s basketball....

Taking personal shots at players and coaches is uncalled for and I do not support some of the stuff being said about Cam Mack and his family in particular.

Taking shots at a coach who is clearly either incompetent or negligent (don’t know what’s worse) on his coaching abilities, and past actions concerning his coaching is fair game. Guy makes $2 mil a year, sorry I don’t feel bad for him at all. Brought it upon himself. How can you blame fans of the team for discussing who might be a replacement especially with all the recent rumors?

I am sure most or all of this is done already. It is all happening behind the scenes.

No one is telling you what to post and what not to post.

You’re trying to say you can say whatever you want about the coach. Yep that’s fine. And I’m allowed to say that a lot of the posts about the coach on here have been ridiculous and based on dogshit rumors.

You can criticize the coach and I can criticize the posts I disagree with. Rinse and repeat. Funny to me when people argue for free speech on here but don’t understand that the people disagreeing with their posts are just other people exercising their free speech too

If Mullin is gone, this is what the following 4 years will look like on redmen.com

Year 1 - Gotta give the coach time, had to deal with players leaving and got stuck with kids that no one wanted (Similar to Mullins first year)

Year 2 - Youngest Team in the country, players have to learn the system and get accustomed to Big East Basketball

Year 3 - Not many recruits coming in, Team isn't performing well, etc. Fans start complaining.. Rumblings that we need a new coach start.

Year 4 - Mixed results. Fans calling for the coaches head.

The problem is bigger than just the Athletic department. SJU cannot compete against other schools facilites or campus. Until some of the loud mouths start writing checks and big ones not much will change.

So get ready for another rebuild, and get ready to complain again in a few years.

Jack, he didn't say we can say anything about Mullin. He clearly stated personal attacks were unwarranted. That's an exception. In terms of coaching, yes totally warranted. I haven't seen one person on here try to silence the other side of the debate that Mullin should stay. Asking why and providing countless examples to argue against that are fair game. Some of you really think Mullin is crying himself to sleep after reading through a message board of fans. It's quite comical. The guy has $18 mil...he doesn't care and it's clear he doesn't really care about coaching. Either that or he is incompetent. One of the 2. Jack, it's strange weren't you just on the other side of the debate the other day saying Mullin is not the man for the job? Now you are defending him constantly and backed a poster literally telling other grown men to log off because they have the wrong opinion. I'm very confused. At least myself and others have been consistent. I knew early with Lavin it wouldn't work and I knew early with Mullin it wouldn't work. Give it the ol' eye test and it doesn't take long to see what we have IMO.

I literally don’t care what your opinion is. That’s up to you. If you disagree with me all the power to you, but don’t tell other posters and me to “log off” for a while because you don’t like our opinion. That’s what I have a problem with.

The Red Sox had the Bambino, the Cubs had the Billy Goat.
We need something more exclusive than a fortune from Pei Wei. :)

Redmen#13 posts that SJU is facing a few years of rebuilding if they bring in a new coach. That is probably correct with one exception. Pitino. If SJU is willing to accept him, warts and all, he will be competing at the top of the big east after one year.
He can get players to the NBA and that is the main reasons the top recruits select a school.

Should any moves get made, HC or new AC, is it almost certain that nothing would be announced until Tuesday, after tourney is over?

I don’t get what’s so hard about this. I don’t want mullin as coach. But I’m also not gonna let my confirmation bias cause me to say a bunch of bs about mullin as a man just because of rumors I read on twitter. If you wanna do that go ahead. But I’m gonna call you out Everytime on it. If those rumors are ever confirmed, you can cook up the greatest “I told you so” post known to man. But until then I’m not going anywhere
