Pitino wins. That's all he's got to sell at this point. But don't ignore the facts that he's older and that hes had a LOT of very serious scandals as a HC that cost him the Louisville job. They are why he's in Greece and not coaching another program right now.
If Pitino ended up here, we'd win in the short term. But at what cost? "When you lie down with dogs you get up with fleas."
I don't have any idea if he's getting serious consideration, but I have heard that he wants the job...this time.
I'd prefer Hurley and one or two of the other names that I've heard tossed around, but I could live with Pitino if the school could.[/quote]
Shocked to admit this but I too could live with Pitino if that’s the direction the school went in. As I lawyer , and without getting technical , there are things the school could do to protect itself from Pitino or any other coach cheating. In Pitino’s case it would be easier because he is older and is a man of considerable assets. Is my thought process unconventional you bet,but so would be hiring Rick Pitino who has never given the school a glance in the past. The one thing I know is that a small segment of the fan base would be offended but I believe ticket sales and the publicity surrounding his hiring would be off the charts. He is also the one coach I could say with certainty would coach up the talent we would get. He doesn’t need a team of 5 star players like Calipari or others to be good, the man can flat out coach at the highest level. He could take a team of three star players and turn them into a contender in a few seasons, which is sort of what we need as the 4 and 5 star players have never walked through our doors with regularity.
Bobby Hurley , though he has certain redeeming qualities which I listed in another post a few days ago, I must say I was underwhelmed watching us play ASU 2 weeks ago. If either Heron or Clark didn’t crap the bed that night we would have moved on and few would be singing Hurley’s praises.
Having said that is it so hard to get a coach that understands that recruiting is the most important part of this job, especially at $2,000,000 per annum.
Jarvis, Lavin, Mullin. SMH in disappointment as each one could have been a success had they not stopped ,or in Mullins case had he ever started , recruiting.
