Coaching Alternatives
Aside from being mindless, it is offensive. The day Pitino is our coach is the last day I ever root for St. Johns.

We are way better than that.
That seems very Christian of you!! This is the kind of thinking that keeps us in the basement! Tell me what has Pitino been charged with?

Pitino is shady though Bradley is right he hasn't been charged. Honestly assuming the thought of Pitino isn't ridiculous at all, my concern would actually be his age. He's 66...how many years would he really have left?

5 year deal, he grooms his replacement! You know whats offensive? Over a thousand die hard johnny fans pass every year not having experienced a great season in 20 years! Thats the real sin! Auburn is playing with a shady coach, and FBI problems, nobody talking about them being shady are they? Pitino would not be shady if he came! Its about sealing his legacy

Lots of rumors making their way around Minny about SJU...
Is Tom Bradley posting on their board?
Nope got stuck here in NC this weekend! None of our teams made it this year! You want a clue! Pitino will be in Minn! And watch for his supporters showing support for him getting a job!! The best one open is the one he will be sitting with the AD of said school...wallets open!!!
Okay, I now think that CM and St. John’s are negotiatong an early exit and I’m hopeful they can come to a fair settlement.
And I’m in the Bobby Hurley camp as the most likely ‘alternative’, given the Duke and Northeast connections.
But I’ll bite Tom, ‘which’ school do you think will have its wallet open...the most...for your guy?!?
Lol.
No other schools as of now, Dickie V was trying to get Pitino to UCLA, not a mutual match! I am not sold on Hurley we have been down that road before, and Bobby already said he goes to his brother as his advisor, that wouldnt be good recruiting against UConn. Pitino would fill the garden, bring national prestige to the program! And we would contend! Its a no brainer!! So I joined the movement. Open the wallet i am referring to minority of donors
I’ll be stunned if you’re proved right on this, Tom.
A part of me shudders at the idea of Pitino, given his personal baggage as well as the ‘lost’ titles but I’ll always be a St. John’s fan and would hope that, if this bizarre notion becomes ‘reality’, Pitino will never embarrass the University we all love.
That said, I prefer Hurley, a good recruiter, is younger, hungry, is aJersey guy, and eats hoops for a living, as I said earlier.

I'm indifferent to Pitino. Great coach but baggage and I dont see the President or Board approving him. I'd prefer a guy like Hurley if that were an option.

To the age concern on Pitino, he's 66. Coach K is 72 and Boeheim is 74.

All speculation by many at this point.

He was fired by Louisville for cause . Having been employed in that area for many years I know that requires egregious behavior that is not even debatable. No thank you,.

Baggage is part of why He is wanted! Who doesnt love a story of redemption? Making amends for prior sins! Imagine how hard he will work to prove Louisville wrong! No FBI wiretaps of Pitino! He would come out swinging! I dont dislike Hurley, he may one day be a Mercedes, but right now we have the real chance of landing a HOF coach with a chip on his shoulder to do it right and cement his legacy!

Start with the assumption that everyone cheats at recruiting in college sports. Because they do. Pitino just got caught, and some of it made for good headlines.

There might be other reasons to dislike the guy. Recruiting illegalities are not what I would hold against Pitino.
Also consider this when judging Pitino and his " I didnt know" defense... would Mullin have had any idea if Matt A had taken recruits for a lap dance or gotten them a pro? Almost certainly not.
Pitino shows up for the inhome visit. Hes not texting 17 year olds and following them on Instagram, or taking shots with them at his house. That's what recruiting assistants do.

If the Pitino thing doesn't work out, one thing is for sure: you can easily sell me a used car lmao.

Tom likely deals in used and dented Mercedes’ Mike.
Lol.

I’m sure you’re correct but I don’t even care. They could bring anyone in with any background and as long as they win I could care less about their baggage. Just my 2 cents. I’m sick of losing and being a laughingstock. I prefer Hurley as my #1 choice of all the names mentioned. But I’d support a Rick Pitino hire, as much of a long shot as it may be.

I would hope my SJU degree would allow me to bondo those Benz first!

If both Hurley and Pitino are available for us I'd take Pitino baggage and all. The guy has taken 3 or 4 different teams on different levels to the Final Four. Believe he's the only one to do that. He's not all shady recruiting...he can obviously coach too.

I'll still be thrilled if we get Hurley.

SJ is starving for a winner. After the last 20 years I would take a few 30’win seasons even if it meant forfeiting them in a few years for cheating. At least we would be relevant again.

Who would you rather have going up against Roy Williams for Precious? Pitino or Hurley who needs to consult w his brother at Uconn who is recruiting Precious?

Funny, but Pitino never showed any interest in coaching St. John's in the past, when he was "clean" (or at least perceived to be). Now that he's a shamed coaching pariah, when none of the "big" programs would touch him with a 10-foot pole, he'd suddenly be interested in the St. John's job -- or at least according to some sources he is. A great coach, yes; but also "yes" to being a desperate egomaniac who suddenly looks at the St. John's job through a different lens. Bottom line: Thanks but no thanks. He can find his "redemption" elsewhere.

Why would he want to coach us in the past? We werent paying 5 to 7 million for a coach of his caliber, we werent sharing sneaker money with our coach? Now we can get him for the cheap with a chip on his shoulder! What a NY story it will be!

Sorry guys, but I'd much rather be a 20th ranked legit program than a top 10 ranked cheater. Pitino is and always will be a cheater in every sense of the word. Good luck going that route.

What makes you say he will always be a cheater? And when were we a border line top 20 program last? We havent been a top 20 program since 2000, its gonna be 20 years since then!
