Coaching Alternatives

Stunning days. A disappointing season ends in defeat to a school from which our next coach 'may' emerge.
Lol.
Roster uncertainty prevails.
Matt leaves.
Rumors range from 2 - 3 AC changes to 1...to Mullin may leave or he may not...to Mack may want out amid grumblings that Mullin hasn't reached out to our 'prize' recruit...to he has called him...to the 'news' that Mack asks for his release.
And the Mullin is leaving rumors seem in hyper-drive.
We shall 'see' at some point.
Right now, the 'smoke' is blinding.

Lots of rumors making their way around Minny about SJU...
Is Tom Bradley posting on their board?

Minneapolis, MN. Home of Final Four.

Wow...Michael Kay really did talk at length about 3 minutes about Mullin and SJ today. Said something's def going on and he's expected to step down just negotiating and Hurley would be the target. Also said he thinks Hurley would love to come here. He also said it's from 2 sources he trusts. For MK to trust someone IMO means more than just a silly rumor. Kay is big time.

Maybe he read this site today

I've always been a Mullin backer but enough is enough. Can't go through another year of this. Between Slice and Mullin what did it cost SJU for someone who did nothing and another who worked very little.
No matter who Cragg brings in you can be sure he will work harder than Mullin.

Just my two cents.
Why do you want Shaka? He coaches at a school that is probably in the top five nationally in terms of resources available to the athletic program and, in 4 years, is 71-66 overall and 31-41 in the Big 12. His team has not won an NCAA tournament game yet.

Pretty pedestrian numbers to me.
He just won the NIT and I believe his style is more suited for the Big East.

But it’s irrelevant now since Texas won’t fire him.
NIT stands for Not In Tournament

The spin from Michael Kay seems 'telling'.
Now, I'm thinking it'll indeed happen.
Man, here's hoping the Mack de-commit is the last of the worst and the 'next' burst of news is good for St. John's and it's basketball program.
It's been a rocky two weeks.

To provide a point of comparison on another coach's contract. The new coach at UNLV, T.J. Otzelberger, who had been an assistant coach for a number of years and a successful head coach at South Dakota State, signed a five-year contract that averages 1.3 million per year, with a descending buyout scale that would pay him roughly $400,000+ at the end of year four.
However the current SJU fiasco ends, please get somebody competent to handle the next contract.

I get that it's a business. I get that cost of living is very high. But Mullin has an estimated net worth of around $18 million and before you ask how I got that, this is routinely done by Forbes for almost all celebs so ask them how they know. If it's true that Mullin is really playing hard ball, of course it's called negotiating...but this isn't a coach who just started out and is trying to provide for his family. He doesn't need anymore money. He can retire today and never have another worry financially while buying each of their kids a mansion and sending his grandchildren to private colleges free with tons left over. $18 mil is a ton of money. If the rumor is true he's really holding out for every dollar, I think many of you may want to reconsider your thoughts that he loves this program. Seems like he just loves the money along with Mitch. None of his or Mitch's actions have shown anything close to giving a damn about the program. Remember, Mullin almost never visited and may not have even donated. I respect him a ton as a player, but he may not be what many of you think he is.

It appears that he did not give a hoot about the program and it was all about the money! Rumor has it that he never donated any money to the University which I always found very odd! If this is true it’s very sad.

Where are you seeing that CM is playing hardball? Or is this just because it's getting later in the night?

If CM is playing hardball and this drags out for days then that'd be pathetic, but at least for now I haven't seen anything.

While the Mack de-commit may give Mullin 'leverage' in that the AD is now desperate to have him go, it also places a harsh 'spotlight' on CM's coaching performance and may 'prompt' him to hammer out an acceptable buyout.
Just me noodling.
I could be all wet.
Lol.

It is too bad there is not such a thing as coaching malpractice. One could easily make the case that it is Mullin who should be paying money back to SJU!

Everyone getting their hot takes off based on a couple tweets from random people. Gotta love redmen.com

According to Michael Kay one of the most prominent NY sports personalities and on ESPN, Incarceratedbob is a buddy of his and Kay said he trusts him. Not easily dismissed IMO.

Both of those guys said it’s possible Mullin could be leaving. Where did they say all this stuff about Mullin essentially extorting SJU, never donating, and overall not being the man any of us thought? Or are these all from Kay also?

Let me let you in on a little journalism secret. Assume everything is BS until it 100% isn’t. Don’t start slandering Mullin’s name off of some shit you heard from some hacks who live on twitter.

The last 10 posts or so on this thread have been ridiculous. Tearing down a man who is an SJU legend and our current coach based on NO FACTS.
