Coaching Alternatives

Everyone getting their hot takes off based on a couple tweets from random people. Gotta love redmen.com
According to Michael Kay one of the most prominent NY sports personalities and on ESPN, Incarceratedbob is a buddy of his and Kay said he trusts him. Not easily dismissed IMO.
Both of those guys said it’s possible Mullin could be leaving. Where did they say all this stuff about Mullin essentially extorting SJU, never donating, and overall not being the man any of us thought? Or are these all from Kay also?

Let me let you in on a little journalism secret. Assume everything is BS until it 100% isn’t. Don’t start slandering Mullin’s name off of some shit you heard from some hacks who live on twitter.

The last 10 posts or so on this thread have been ridiculous. Tearing down a man who is an SJU legend and our current coach based on NO FACTS.
One thing that is a FACT is he’s an awful coach. Also he’s lazy. He did this to himself.

Having an issue with him as a coach? No issue from me. Personal attacks on a message board based on tweets from guys who have no lives? Lame

I said if it's true. Honestly, he has proven a lot of the rest all by himself. Guys, he's a grown man worth $18 million...trust me when I say he will be able to sleep at night after some random fans question his commitment here. He will be just fine. I saw on Twitter that his wife got dragged in which is disgusting and absurd. That clearly crosses the line. But from little tidbits here and there from beat writers over the 4 yrs, it's pretty obvious he didn't care about recruiting and didn't want to put the time in required for the job. His opening presser now appears to be a political speech with unfulfilled promises. I don't know if he donated or not before being a coach or even now, but I know there were rumors for years before he was coach that he never has and we all know he was rarely if ever on campus or involved with the program. That's what can logically lead you to the reason he took the job: money. Many tend to view him as a cuddly puppy who loves us dearly...maybe he does. My point is, he only appears motivated by the money alone and same with Mitch. If it was more than that, where's the evidence?

Confirmation bias. the Achilles heel of many on this board

A few points:

-A lot of Donors to the school post here so if they’re saying Mullin hasn’t donated to the school I’m taking their voices seriously. Nobody says Mullin has to donate to the school but you would think a guy who boast on what SJU means to him he should at least donate something. I love SJU so I donate time and time again and I have nothing remotely close to what Chris has financially.

Point 2 about Mullin extorting SJU could also be legitimate. If Mullin is getting the door it means Mike Cragg won this tug of war battle between him and Mullin and that’s actually significant because it probably means Bobby G and Cragg won out vs the Old Louie Carnesca Guard of the University. Best believe this is a blow to Mullin and him holding out is more about his pride than anything else. So yes I can see where the hold up is.

Point 3 about not being the man we thought could mean a couple of things. One is his basketball actions and promises vs reality

* Promise one by Mullin : “ I’ll be at every gym recruiting players”, “ I’ll work hard in recruiting “

* Reality by Mullin : He’s ignored recruiting when it comes to Cam Mack, Femi O, hasn’t contacted Curbelo and ignored Lugant Dortz when he showed interest at SJU. His presence in NYC gyms has been abysmal to say the least.

Point 4 about tearing him down?

-His Big East conference record
-His lack of recruiting
-Him treating this gig like a part time job
-His stubbornness with Mitch
-His arrogance about not hiring a second recruiter when he could have

Are way more than enough to warrant “tearing him down”.

It's a business. This is what you do in deals that haven't gone as expected for both parties.
Doesn't mean anybody is extorting or pressuring anybody. It means both parties are seeking a mutually acceptable way out of an agreement that went awry.
That's all it means.
Most of us wish Chris well and also want what's best for St. John's.
I think both parties are looking for a way for that to happen.
That's it.
whether you attack his integrity or not I think we all agree we need a NEW staff.
By no means am I attacking CM’s integrity. I will always revere Chris the player and feel bad for his HC experience.
But I have reluctantly concluded that it is time for Chris and St. John’s to hammer out a fair settlement.
We need a makeover.
Let’s go St. John’s.

No one is bigger than the program. If you agree with that and you agree that results outweigh emotions, then you will agree we need to revamp the staff.

Lots of rumors making their way around Minny about SJU...
Is Tom Bradley posting on their board?
Nope got stuck here in NC this weekend! None of our teams made it this year! You want a clue! Pitino will be in Minn! And watch for his supporters showing support for him getting a job!! The best one open is the one he will be sitting with the AD of said school...wallets open!!!

What kind of deal?
A 'discount' off the remainder of the contract. Just guessing but maybe $1.5mm - 2mm to step aside.
Hufley makes $3mm/yr and he'd owe ASU $2.5mm if he left.
So, a discount.
We shall see.
I have heard Hurley name this week, one camp of donors ok with Hurley and one camp firmly for Pitino! PR push coming for Pitino! Pitino wants to coach, and for 2.5 mill he is our guy!! Same as Roy Williams makes!! Now Roy gets a match from Nike, u think Nike will match SJU? Hahaha
The Pitino stuff is just mindless.
Think Big or go home! You dont understand how this works do you? Mullin was gone when Nike signed with SJU! No Nike money in that contract!! Pitino would get huge Nike money!!! Stop saying the school is poor

Okay, I now think that CM and St. John’s are negotiatong an early exit and I’m hopeful they can come to a fair settlement.
And I’m in the Bobby Hurley camp as the most likely ‘alternative’, given the Duke and Northeast connections.
But I’ll bite Tom, ‘which’ school do you think will have its wallet open...the most...for your guy?!?
Lol.
The Pitino stuff is just mindless.
It is ‘stuff’ from ‘Star Wars’ for sure.
Gotta laugh.

No other schools as of now, Dickie V was trying to get Pitino to UCLA, not a mutual match! I am not sold on Hurley we have been down that road before, and Bobby already said he goes to his brother as his advisor, that wouldnt be good recruiting against UConn. Pitino would fill the garden, bring national prestige to the program! And we would contend! Its a no brainer!! So I joined the movement. Open the wallet i am referring to minority of donors

Just remember this is a business and that Fox contract will need to be renewed, and the BE needs clout to negotiate, having Pitino in NY with a winner brings those network dollars, so does that Nike money!!

Aside from being mindless, it is offensive. The day Pitino is our coach is the last day I ever root for St. Johns.

We are way better than that.

This one I will disagree with. Nike had nothing to do with it. In fact Mullin was pushing to go back to Nike for years. Couldn't because of UA deal. Now that's ending
