Coaching Alternatives

If some of the rumors are true, it sounds at least like GSJ got the message and is looking for other work. I still think he is at fault for not recruiting, but at the same time Mullin did give him WAY too many responsibilities. A 28 year old AC with no experience should not be running a Big East program. Ultimately Mullin is at fault and has done a terrible job managing his staff. He has mishandled Slice, Matt, GSJ, and Mitch.

Mitch won't make a move unless he's forced out. That is also on Mullin because he needs to make the change.

Truth, she be a harsh toke...or pale ale.
Lol.

The coaching staff was extremely poorly assembled right at the start. It needs to be re-assembled now and that seems to be exactly what is being done, with Cragg overseeing things.

I guess that we'll have a better idea where the program stands in the next few weeks. Let's hope for the best.

Can't help but think the fans knew better in this one. Fans were warning this staff composition wouldn't work and it was continued anyway. So yes, sometimes people in higher ranks are so incompetent that fans actually DO know better than some big names who have much more experience.

That being said, I'd be happy with Pecora and that WKU guy. Anyone know if he had a hand in bringing several 5 stars to WKU? I would not however want Pecora as the successor to Mullin. He's a good assistant coach at this level but is not good enough to be the head coach IMO. The guy's 44-106 at Fordham and lost 20+ games all but 1 year in his tenure there (the lone year he didn't he was still at 19 losses).

Quote on Hsu: “Coach Hsu’s a grinder, that’s all I can say. He’s a grinder,” Stansbury said this week. “He lives it 24-7. That’s what you gotta be to be the best at anything you do. But he falls asleep thinking about recruiting and he wakes up thinking about recruiting. That’s what you have to do. “

Sounds exactly like what we need IMO.

Original staff composition if Slice was retained would have been fine,. He could coach and recruit. When that situation went south, the Richmond promotion has led us to where we are now. Need on other coach in bench that can coach or recruit

Transfer U...[/quote]

Remember when some of us said "hey it's dumb to rely on transfers" and we were scolded not too long ago? Well, we see how that turned out. Can't build a program on that. Rare exceptions but beyond that you can't. They act as finishing touches not the foundation.

I love how a lot of fans have been complaining about this for years, but now it's a problem.

Transfers are very useful, but at the end of the day they should be used to supplement your roster. A team should not be completely built on them. In the beginning of Mullin's tenure, I completely understood the reliance on them. But it's year 4 and I don't even hear us talking to any 2019 HS recruits. That's inexcusable in my opinion.

Psh, it's impossible for "stupid fans" to know better than an NBA HOFer!

Media Reports-DOBO Chris Huey and Management Analyst Luca Virgilio have been tasked to exploit LinkedIn, Monster Jobs, and all internet based sites to gather a number of candidates to replace recently departed assistant coach and recruiting guru Matt Abdelmassih. The process was to begin within the next few weeks.

Who wouldn’t take 3 more LJs? Another Heron?

The transfer issues are more of a failure to identify the correct ones IMO. You can’t let talent like Keita and Dixon take up two years. We haven’t been players in the grad transfer market either.

I’ll take talent wherever we can get it. If we can get 4* high school talent...get it. If we can get it via transfer then do it. Let’s limit the guys that have to sit out to true talents with skill and a good reason for transferring.

I'm going to read this as you wrote it in the spirit of today's date. ;-)

Not to send the board into a frenzy, but someone I trust who has connections told me he's heard from a couple different sources there's chatter about Mullin possibly stepping aside and that would clear the path for Bobby Hurley.

Not an April Fools. I'm not someone here who has sources, but I trust the person who told me this and I know he has connections. I'm just the messenger on this. Could be hogwash and might not come close to happening, but figured I would share. If it ends up being complete BS the mods can delete.

Appreciate you qualifying the information. I would not be shocked.......have long thought he would step down after this season.

Alas, all we can do is wait, see and hope they move quickly.

Hope your ‘Not an April Fools ’ is not one, Mattc! Lol.
If true, wonder if Cragg is pushing for a complete Staff overhaul to include ‘you know who’ and Chris refuses to do that and maybe thinks the best thing to do is to leave after a winning season?

I felt this once the season ended. But the longer it goes I lose that hope. My thing is don't string it along if its the case. Longer it goes if he was to step aside it would make next year worse and worse.
