Coach

We overreact more than any fan base in the country. We lost on the road to Georgetown. Did you expect a win? Kenpom gave them a 24% chance to win. @Xavier, @Gtown and then #11 Nova is a brutal start.

Let's not head the ledge just yet. I think we beat Nova at MSG.

We overreact? He started N'daye and Felix in a game we needed to win!!
We have 6 top100 talents on the roster and he started 2 of them. 2!
Our best recruit in Lavin's regime was set to leave last week, and he told us he went home to visit his mom.
And we've been embarrassed in our first two conference games of the season. The team is regressing in every meaningful way.

That's why I felt we needed the Xavier game, because I had the next two (today and next week) pegged as losses.

At 0-3 (if you are wrong, which I hope you are not), DePaul could see that game next Tuesday as a possible victory in their house, and could really raise their game against us (though they have probably earned even less of a benefit of the doubt then we have when it comes to wins).

Everyone here knows how much I like Coach Lavin, but I just cannot make any sense of this.

I am assuming he was flexing his muscles and making a statement to certain players. There must be issues in the family that he is trying to correct? Benching your better players may work in the middle school/high school level to prove a point, but when every game has our NCAA tourney lives riding on it, you can't start N'daye and Felix as Jordan and Jakarr watch. We handed the Hoyas the game in the opening minutes by this move.

I am beyond stunned by what I saw today from a Coach I respect immensely.

Marillac is correct that we tend to split hairs on every single thing with this team. But, there is no overreacting on this one. It was an awful move and makes our program look like a mess.

This. Whatever motivational bs Lavin tried to pull clearly backfired. He better hope he doesn't lose the team, if he hasn't done so already. Today was embarrassing.

On point! How was shopping?

The only explanation I can think of is that some of our guys aren't trying in practice.

When Lavin had his quote that Balamou was trying really hard in practice, I think that means that some other guys weren't.

There is something going on behind the scenes, or Lavin is brainless.

Missed the game, and glad I did.

Marillaac, I'm usually optimistic, but don't accuse anyone of overreacting. How can you even fathom this team beating nova? As someone else said, I hope you're right.

If they do win that game this team will be back from the dead.

Onward....

Informed opinion. Do I know it to be 100% true? No.
But several people told me that, at least two of which I trust. So take that fwiw.

Excellent points by Zanman and MKras. +100

Jordan needs to start because we need a guard and he is the best we have regardless of his inexperience. The players here are really talented and good, they just need to win a few games and Lavin needs to bring it home

There's still a lot of season left, but it is hard to succeed when your coach isn't putting you in a position to succeed.

Too soon to say I was right? Get a hungry young coach who may not have all the connections but will make every single player that wears our uniform better.

This guy is the turd not Norm. For everyone here who insulted Norm and called me inbalanced for comparing the two, you should know you're dead wrong. Both coaches stink but this one is a new low.

I love how imbalanced you STILL are. A good percentage of us felt we had a good chance to win today. That NEVER happened when Norm coached.

I think we should get off of Lavin, and blame Mike Repole. The world isn't vitamin water, and he shouldn't have been allowed to hire the coach.

Bobre was right - we should have hired Mark Jackson.

Excuse me but what does it matter what we thought the result would be? Because we thought we had a chance you think that means Lavin is a respectable coach? Again you and the intangibles. All you care about is the recruiting rankings and expectations. Have you seen the halftime score? Start putting more stake in the things that matter like being down 30 at halftime to a bitter rival.

The great HOF coached Syracuse was down 30 to Gtown last year. It's one game.

This is crazy. Did the team we put on the floor to open the game give us a chance to win?? Did we look prepared to play in a game that we really needed?? We got beat to loose balls in the first half and Georgetown clearly played harder than us. We have now put 5 different starting lineups on the floor in the last 6 games. Does this sound like a formula to win anything of significance?? Yes we have a tough beginning of the schedule in terms of the conference, but we are more talented than both Georgetown and Xavier.

We have been completely outclassed, and in the postgame press conference our head coach said his biggest mistake was not playing the walk-on MORE. We have very few chances left for "quality wins", and if this team misses the NCAA Tournament it would be a complete failure.

True but on the heels of the Xavier game and the line-up / shellacking today, it is hard to defend Coach Lavin. The D is uncoordinated, there are no set plays on offence, players do not know their roles, poor shot selection, not boxing out, not seeing any individual improvement... I could go on & on. Bottom line, it is all on Lavin. And it ain't pretty.

Did you watch the game? There is losing and getting embarrassed. We were embarrassed and if it wasn't for Hooper the final score would have been even worse. DePaul played a competitive game. We should have been at least able to do the same.
