Coach

And I don't accept the premise that "we need Lavin to recruit". Believe it or not there are other D1 coaches who can recruit quality basketball players.

We had extended practice time this year, trip to Europe, cupcakes to get ready against, and this looks like the worst ST.Johns team in my lifetime.I said at the end of last season we wouldn't be better this year because we had no shooters, this team still has no shooters, and the two cyo looking shooters we do have take a week to release their shot, and we have no plays for those two guys...as roy Williams always says you will be judged by how many nba players are on the team, and we clearly do not have a single player headed for the nba

Too soon to say I was right? Get a hungry young coach who may not have all the connections but will make every single player that wears our uniform better.

This guy is the turd not Norm. For everyone here who insulted Norm and called me inbalanced for comparing the two, you should know you're dead wrong. Both coaches stink but this one is a new low.

I love how imbalanced you STILL are. A good percentage of us felt we had a good chance to win today. That NEVER happened when Norm coached.

I think we should get off of Lavin, and blame Mike Repole. The world isn't vitamin water, and he shouldn't have been allowed to hire the coach.

Bobre was right - we should have hired Mark Jackson.

Stop with the big names! Many good coaches rise through the ranks, they aren't anointed because they have a big name.
Who the f was Jim Calhoun when he was at Northeastern? Bill Self proved himself at Tulsa. Not long ago Gus Malzahn was a HS football coach in texas.

Find a guy with a brain who is hungry.

+100 Who the hell are we kidding?

If you really want a hungry coach, wait till Smith graduates from Georgetown and hire him.

Who gets fired first, Lavin or the announcer who keeps saying "like" as if he is a 16 year-old girl

I'm no expert at basketball, not by a long shot...

but is it me, or did juniors like DLo, Phil, etc. play better as freshmen than they do now?

I'm surprised Dunlap's name doesn't pop up more often in threads like this...

You're all wrong. Lavin has no ego. And he is a terrific coach. He coaches even when there are cameras around.

Lavin should fired one second after the season ends if this team doesn't make the NCAA Tournament. Steve Maisiello from Manhattan should be hired. Also, based on what I saw from Hooper in the second half today, our starting line up should be Jordan, Harrison, Hooper, Sampson and Sanchez. you need Harrison and Hooper on the wings to open up the lane for guys like Jordan, Sampson and Sanchez so they can take their defenders one on one and drive to the hoop. Those three will win that battle almost every time with their athleticism.

Watched the alleged game and thought I would need to take out my wife's copy of DSMIVR before reading the game thread so I started reading other threads first. When I got back to the thread list there was no Georgetown game thread. Probably just as well.
I coached football, not basketball, but I think I know at lest two ways to punish a team for a half court trap. One, you go over the top of it. Two, you take your worst ballhandler with the most mass or the sharpest elbows and you create picks near the half court line that opponents learn to fear. Us old guys remember a certain James Loscutoff for that professional Boston team who made his living as an enforcer protecting Cousy, not that Cousy needed it. Put Chris O or Gift as an obstacle to create angles with the thereat of Sanchez or Jakarr as over the top options and this kind of debacle can at least be partially eliminated.

One (of many) of the problems you have is Sampson just cannot or will not pass the ball. One play, and I understand it is only one play, that illustrates why you need a shooter on the court. After Hooper made his first two threes, he cut from the left side to the right while Branch drove the left side. Hooper's man followed him through rather than helping and Branch got a 3 point play. I understand it is only one play but it illustrates that you MUST have shooters on the floor to open up lanes. Just basketball 101.

How could they play together, when they don't know who is .in the lineup with them.Did Lavin read any of our posts on the starting lineup this week. The starting lineup today just took the heart out me,I just can imagine what it did to the team.lWhat is his thinking?????????????

I know what you mean; when I saw the starting lineup I just thought "Is Lavin trying to get fired?" No point guard, no shooting, other than Harrison who is as absolutely erratic as they come. Our lack of ANY offensive sets is just beyond comprehension. I stopped posting about our lack of real effort because it is obvious to anyone who knows the game. I posted earlier this week that I never called for Lavin's head; well I can't see where this is going except there. This team, this program, is in trouble. Recruiting rankings can only take you so far.

Before we start with new coach nominations, how many more years does Lavin have - at 1.8 mil - on his contract? You know, in the last twenty years sju has hired or almost hired the following: Mahoney, Fraschilla, Jarvis, Roberts, Doherty (almost), Hewitt (almost) and now Lavin. Not even DePaul, Seton Hall, Rutgers or Providence can equal that line-up. At this point, to continue watching sju is either enduring loyalty or masochism.
The good news is that, barring transfers or arrests, everyone on the team will be back.

How is that good news?

He has 1 more year guaranteed.
I think there is almost a zero percent chance that all the players (and coaches) who could return, will actually be back.

We overreact more than any fan base in the country. We lost on the road to Georgetown. Did you expect a win? Kenpom gave them a 24% chance to win. @Xavier, @Gtown and then #11 Nova is a brutal start.

Let's not head the ledge just yet. I think we beat Nova at MSG.

Kenpom will give that about a 1% chance.

I consider myself a fairly rational poster. This game was a Normesque disgrace. This game put the D in Debacle
