Coach K #1000

I would not sell my tickets to an opposing fan. Ever. Purchasing tickets is not an investment. I didn't buy my season tickets with the goal of seeing how much I could get for them for a future big game. I really don't see how you can be a supporter of the team and the program and then turn around and sell your tickets to an opposing fan. Just MHO.

Tony you talking about to this game, or to any game regardless of the circumstance? In other words, if hypothetically we were 0-17 right now and 30 pt dogs Sunday and some Duke fan was offering you 1K per ticket so he could see K get his 1,000 W, you would still not sell?

Monte, that would be most enticing. But no, I would never sell my tickets knowingly to an opponent's fans. I've never stopped rooting for this team, from the Louie glory years, to the Norm down years. So even if we were 0-17 right now and 30 point dogs, I'd still go to the game and root for our guys, even if I was the only St. John's fan in the garden.

Now, of course, if I were desperate for money, either to pay the mortgage or for a life saving medical procedure that I couldn't afford otherwise, then yes, I would look to sell my tickets for that amount of money.

In the five years that I've had two season tickets, I've already given them away to people on this forum. And once, I had one extra ticket and gave it to a forum member, who sat next to me during a game. And all I asked for in return was a beer and a hot dog. I'm a cheap date! ;)

You are a far better man and fan than me :)

Doubt it. But you're kind to say that. :cheer:

As I feel like I started this discussion, I did not sell my tickets to make money but because my son has a basketball game at that time. I was just commenting that I would have made a nice profit if I had sold them once the Duke fans interest went up.

I'm thinking of selling my tickets. You know it will be 15k Duke and say 3k SJU.
I really don't want to sit there in a blowout, hearing their damn chants like it's their home game, and feeling all miserable.

If I do go, and it's 15+ at halftime I'm leaving anyway.

Yeah, an upset would be great to watch in person, but I'm not feeling good about this game at all.

Believe me, I hear every word you're saying. But can you imagine what it would be like to be there and watch our guys upset Puke? The 3K of us Johnnies fans would be much louder than the 15K Puke fans!

Tony you've won me over. I'll make a deal with you: Give me a ticket and I'll by you a beer(maybe 2) and a hot dog?

LOL! As enticing as that sounds, sorry, but my son is coming with me on Sunday. Otherwise, I'd definitely take you up on your offer. Maybe another time.

I'll be there Sunday, but this is the first time in the Lavin-era when I wonot blame those who sell. I could never understand those fans who would sell their tickets to the Syracuse game at msg, but now I get it.

Our house is going to be packed with oppowing fans, and we're going to get crushed. Those of us who go Sunday are masochists .
This is just not going to be enjoyable. Thank goodness there's booze at msg.

I sold too early. Lost out on a few hundred dollars.

Damn you guys must be really hard up for cash! Crushed, masochists, or whatever one thing is for sure, you are a bunch of hard up pussies who should be banned from this site. I feel bad for our players who obviously have a bunch of Judas fans willing to sell their tickets for some extra shekels.
I would be ashamed to post here that I sold my tickets and Billthetruth, you are a liar! You sold your tickets you putz. Yeah, we are New York's team  We SUCK as fans and I am ashamed of some of you! I go to our games hoping we win even against the odds.

Are you saying that you wouldn't sell your tickets at any price?

I would sell my wife before I sold my tickets to the Duke game! A college kid unloading his tickets to buy extra beer and cigarettes is one thing but a fan of 40 years is just a loser in my book and trust me there are a few sociopathic losers on this "fan" site.

Sell wife before Duke tickets = pathetic statement

Hey dude enough is enough. You made your point behind your keyboard muscles, now stop throwing insults and give it a rest.

You are looking like the loser here.

If the shoe fits.....
BTW, all I need to know is who likes your statement to know who the "realfan"s are on this site and who are just ballbreakers. Bill, the truth.....hurts!.

i guess celebrating their embarrassments vs Lehigh and Mercer have come full circle for us to be on center stage Sunday (first week since early September with no NFL) and now with an undermanned team and "Lav" manning our ship there is very little hope of this ending well for SJU like it has in better days like 2000, 03 and 11. I would even settle for 99 when arguably the best college game of the last 25 years was played between us and Duke.

Keeping it close and not turning this into the Duke SportsCenter Top 10 Highlight Show would make me happy. I am not for moral victories but i think they are coming in focused, Coack RatFace remembers the beatdown we gave them the last time at MSG, he will be auditioning for the ACC Tourney to come to MSG....plus he wants to get # 1,000 in the bag...all too much for SJU to deal with....I hope for the sake of our kids this stays under 20....but if it gets ugly i think that Slick will really start to feel the heat and the screams of an unhappy fanbase to start producing results.

I think once the new coach is in place at St Johns we will be able to be more competitive in this series with Duke but this is one where we are gonna take it on the chin and move on.

Prediction: Duke 98 SJU 71

Really? Trabinowitz would have given you $30 for them :)

Our kids have way too much pride to give up 98 points. I think it will be much closer than you think. We have a huge handicap on the bench but other than Okafor no other players on this Duke team are on the Kentucky level. Duke has not been impressive of late so a chance at a miracle is the best we can expect. Coach K is the best coach in the game today pro or college and we hate him as an opposing coach, but his teams never play to embarrass an opponent. It will depend on us and Lavin not to fold like a cheap tent. I am more worried about Marquette as a league game than Duke.

I am wondering if we are hosting any recruits for this game. If the crowd is overly lop-sided, that's surely not helpful to the program.

You just dont give up. You started this whole thing by using insulting words. Go back and check the message log. I see no more reason to have a discussion with you anymore. You dont know me personally yet you make blanket statements about me that are so far from truth about who i am and my loyalty to St. John's none of which i need to prove to you. Luckily i have come to know a lot of great guys from this site that one keyboard bully doesnt spoil my time here.

Yeah well, Bill. you get people on here that think they know you, or know who you are. In realolty though, they don't know jack S*. I'm sure you know that every message board and chat room has its asshole and trouble makers, but hey such is life.
Just keep enjoying it, and never allow them to bully you, you go right back at them until a moderator handles the situation.

If I recall you are one of the "loyal fans" who posted how much you made from selling to a Duke fan. If you come on here and brag about that, then you deserve any insulting words you get! When some loyal fans are urging the chicken shits to show up and protect OUR HOUSE you come on here advertising the going rate to surrender our house to the opposition  You can't make this shit up and if it were a Kentucky board you would be tarred and feathered over the Internet and then accidentally banned from posting. As for joking about my wife, she has not missed a game in years and as a vociferous SJ alum, would sell me before she missed the Duke game. Being a loyal SJ fan is not for the faint of heart. You and real fan may consider yourself fans but you are not real fans from your discourse and that is all I go by.......at least we know Rick Smith Baldi is just a fun loving troll.

I would not sell my tickets to an opposing fan. Ever. Purchasing tickets is not an investment. My wife and I along with my youngest son were on the LIRR on our way to MSG
for the St.John's -G'town game. That's right the Mullin vs. Ewing game for first place in the country. Someone on the train offered us $150 a ticket. Heading up the escalator at Penn Station we were mobbed by people in need of tickets. While the teams had not yet entered the court there were chants, Let's go Redmen and let's go dirt bags. Sorry I meant Hoyas. As a diehard fan there was no way I would ever give up tickets regardless of the price.

Some of the young fans would rather the money as they have no sense of history and just assume a loss since our recent history has not been able to build a fan base. That is understandable but a veteran lifer would find it hard to stomach. Even if you are not a Duke or St. John's fan, if you are a basketball junkie, you want to be there. If, by some miracle, we win it will be the most satisfying win in years if only to see the Duke fans leave in silence.

Granted Duke has a fine team but still start three freshmen. So why are we giving up already. Okafor will be the difference, especially if he puts Obekpa in foul trouble. What makes it so difficult to guard him is his mobility around the low post. Teams have been double teaming him ,however against Pitt on Monday coach K finally had him hit an open man for easy layups. A zone will probably make it easy for Duke to find an open Okafor as he roams in low. Plus Cooke and the guards can get hot shooting threes.
Call me crazy but I always expect us to win or at least keep it close.

Put Dom on Okafor and letObekpa provide weak side help. He tends to be more effective defending off the ball than he is when his man can put a shoulder in his chest. The guards will not e able to double down on the post without giving u wide open 3's.
