Seriously disagree with not hiring the best coach possible based on an underestimation of St. Johns appeal and prestige. Don't think STJ is stepping stone job to just any P5 job.
So long as we are willing to increase the $$ as his success rises, don't think he leaves for anything less than KU, UK, UCLA Duke, UNC type of gig. No coach is going to leave SJU for a Ohio St or VT unless theyre being lowballed compensation wise...we're not Butler or DePaul.

They should seriously give Odom and others a look before settling lazily on Cluess[/quote]

Otis seems to have good sources on the $$$-sitch at SJU and to paraphrase him: "it ain't good...we don't have the wherewithal to pony up $11mm on Mullin's buyout and total cost of a new coach."
I think Odom is the flavor of the day on the Board and would not be here more than 3 years.
Cluess is looking like he's the pick and I think he'll be a good HC for us.
 
Year 1: With the cup board bare, will be a pass
Year 2: Will still suck
Year 3: Better but still no Tournaments
Year 4: NIT?
Year 5: NCAA Tournament?

Screw that, not worth a 5 year wait for a coach that I'm against.

Yeah there is. 19 years with no NCAA tourney wins and none in sight. That's a long time. I'm frustrated that perhaps we're going into another cycle of "be patient" and "trust the process". If SJU basketball was a stock, it would have been delisted 15 years ago. I hate what's happening. It pisses me off.

I think you'll be disappointed. As Paultz has noted, Cragg likes to plays things close to the vest, but I don't think it's possible to keep names suppressed for long in the information age.

Mullin has been attacked on this forum relentlessly for two years but I’ve been told by OhioFan we cannot be critical of Cragg and that it’s “not up for debate.”
