Cincy Game

St.John's next 5 games are winnable.

And only reason we lost to Nova was that they shot 42 free throws. That game is behind us though. We defended and most importantly rebounded today. We can be a top rebounding team in the league, not just a middling one. We showed it today. It's not the game plan, it is the execution of the game plan. When we play our defense and don't just cruise, we can play with anybody.

Let's not get greedy now...I'd be thrilled to go 3-2 in this stretch. Winning all 5 would make us probably #20 or #18 in the rankings.

Honestly, 3 of 5 would be really nice, and 2 out of 5 not a complete disappointment. If the team is really learning they can be a .500 team in conference, anything better would be a greating season to build on. I think it would be realistic to be satisfied with just under or around .500 in conference, and become a ranked team next season.

They are a young team with a lot of promise. they aren't as bad as they've looked in some of the losses, but they will have letdowns and bad matchups throughout the season.

Agree that all 5 are winnable. Rutgers isn't disciplined. Georgetown has had an extremely tough time scoring, if you defend them, they fold. Notre dame is very tough, but their style vs Lavin's is like oil and water. Burn offense vs running team and we have beaten them last 4/5 times I think. DePaul is alway beatable.

Don't know if we will win them all, but the team needs to know that if they defend and rebound that they can win every single one. Now is the time to step on the gas and do so. Best way to make up for bad losses is to go on a winning streak. Good time for it.

Time to get greedy. All winnable. Need to make up some wins. Best to do that in leage. Put us back in the race.

nationally ranked?? Let's get ranked as the top NYC metro team first....instead of 4th! LOL!

Ugly win but incredibly important in my opinion simply because of the Jermaine Lawrence factor.

LOL! let's not get carried away here! All Jermaine said was he was watching the game.
Ugly yes....1-13 from trey?? We almost shot 0%!
Cincy did just what Cronin said they would not do......shoot a gazillion 3's and they almost took the game doing so.
But, like an ugly woman with a hot body, I'll take it ugly over losing pretty.

Gotta be up to 2 or 3 now as we just leapfrogged over stony brook :)

Just watched the replay on espn3 and that was an ugly win but first against a ranked team.
Lavin has Cinn's number or something walk into their house three times to get a W three years in a row.
Huge boost for the team and a confidence builder. They went ice cold and fought to get that W. Love what I see from this team.

We just beat #14 Cincy, beating #15 (or whatever they end up being ranked after their loss) G'Town and #20ish ND including the others would give us 3 ranked wins, a 14-5 overall record, and a 6-1 Big East record. No doubt we would crack the top 25 at least #25.

SJU is Jermaine's last visit and it'll probably be sometime this month.

Beating the only ranked team on his list on the road certainly doesn't hurt our chances.

Now the game itself was a mess. They played much smarter on defense. But I'm not reading too much into the win as our offensive "gameplan" remains to be extremely suspect.

They went ice cold because they slowed down their offense too early. Instead of penetrating they waited until time was running out and took horrible heaves. Even Welsh mentioned they should continue a faster pace.
It was obvious Lavin wanted to fast break after a defensive rebound and boy did it work. Nice to see us rebound. Quite a difference having Sampson today. After watching Uconn's centers block shots year after year, it's great to have our own Obepka.

Let's worry about beating Rutgers and being 10-5 and 2-1 in the Big East. One game at a time boys. No need to get silly loses trying to beat g-town when they aren't on the court.

Lawrence doesn't care what we did from the three point line chances are he won't take those shots. He cares about how much playtime he will have and how long it will take him to get into the NBA.

Bingo

While a win is undeniably important, it is still apparent that two things almost made this again, a horrible loss.

One, can Phil Greene not be allowed to dribble the ball until the 10 second mark? Two, can Steve Lavin show us he can Coach a game in progress?

Taking the air out of the ball with Greene at the point was a disaster and allowed Cincy TO ALMOST WIN THIS ONE.

Harrison has to have the ball, even if double teamed.. We were lucky to escape today. Very Lucky.. Playing 34 minutes of good basketball isn't enough.

But it wasn't a loss, it was a win on the road against a top 20 team and without Jamal.
Damn when can this board ever be happy?
