Cincy Game

I've been sick with the flu for 4 days.....this win might just start me on the road to recovery!! :)
I got the flu when I got back from vacation 3 weeks ago and had it for 3 days but it took me over a week to recover.

It was freaking nasty. Never been so sore in my life. My hair hurt even

I know right? This has been a brutal one. I was back in NY for the holidays and by the time I arrived back in LA on the 1st, I was doomed

I got my flu when I got back from california. lol

While a win is undeniably important, it is still apparent that two things almost made this again, a horrible loss.

One, can Phil Greene not be allowed to dribble the ball until the 10 second mark? Two, can Steve Lavin show us he can Coach a game in progress?

Taking the air out of the ball with Greene at the point was a disaster and allowed Cincy TO ALMOST WIN THIS ONE.

Harrison has to have the ball, even if double teamed.. We were lucky to escape today. Very Lucky.. Playing 34 minutes of good basketball isn't enough.

Every team that wins by a few points is a mistake or two from a horrible loss. That's how basketbsll works. We played grest for most of the game. Great defense, rebounded, scored. Certainly a few breakdowns, but we beat the # 14 team in the country on the ROAD for a win. Forget the rest. We improved after a tough OT loss where the refs absolutely screwed us for a huge win. Team getting tougher which is the key, and the only thing we need to take away here is an improved performance and of course, the W!

seems to me that if you have "joe" in your screename on here, you'll find negative in everything....

Wasn't Obepka at one point supposedly going to Cincy. Glad he chose us instead.... :)

Yep. As the "Everybody Hates Chris" sign indicated.

Tremendous win on the road.

Classy Cincy fans. Apparently Chris loves blocking Cincy's shots though... ;-)

D-Lo's 3 was insane. Have to give the kids great credit bouncing back after a tough loss to Nova with this unexpected win. Let's hope we build on this. I have no fingernails after the last 5 mins of this one.

This was an impressive win on many levels. Rebounding improved ..... Defense improved and Harrison continues his dominance at shooting guard.
We were big underdogs and like Choz said on JJ, halfway into the second half....I had a feeling.
More impressive is we played without a point guard and even with Dom's turn overs and Greene's turnovers late, Harrison willed us to a win.
The two pure frosh, Felix and Chris, played well and Lav was alive on the sidelines.
A very important win!

HUGE HUGE win. I said we'd need to take one of Cincy or G'Town to get back on track. Well, we took 1 already. Taking down the #14 team at their house with the recruit they lost out on...LOVE IT!

Didn't you also say this team was "pathetic" after the Villanova loss and to give you "ONE" reason to be optimistic? Joe3, you have much to learn. ; )

I did and they deserved it at the time lol. If you look back I also said we will win a few games no one expected us to and I specifically said either Cincy or G'Town. Looks like we got our first signature win of the year. We played much better than this score indicates which is even more encouraging. I can't wait for a breakout game from Branch...I think it's coming I hope his eye is ok.

Today's win over Cincinnati was St. John's first road win vs. a top-14 team since the Red Storm beat No. 2 Duke on Feb. 26, 2000.

Most of all I liked our confidence, patience and impeccable timing in challenging shots under the board.

It became a no-fly zone for about 15 minutes and was enormously frustrating for Cinci.

We really made them look bad for a long stretch..

Agree 100% Savor the win...Hopefully Lavin and company will show them the contrast between the 1st 34 and the last 6...after which hopefully we can put a complete game together.

Was glad to see Lavin be so animated as he implored the team to get back on defense...they seem to be jogging back a few times...not sure if they were tired or didn't sense the urgency

I think they were tired . Maybe they should be given more breathers during the game. It will keep them fresher at the end of the game and help keep them out of foul ttrouble. Nevertheless a road BE win agaist a ranked opponent is something to feel good about.

Just such a great feeling to feel like a REAL Big East team today. If you play in this conference you are supposed to be able to beat some of the ranked teams every once in a while. Losing to Asheville, Nova, SF, Murray, etc. was painful. This game made up for the terrible losses. I really hope the team gets a TON of confidence from this win, and makes them realize that they CAN beat these teams...

As I just typed this Harkless blocked a shot on the Knicks :D

I don't think it is being tired. In fact, it certainly isn't. Jogging back is ingrained into these kids from AAU ball. The lack of urgency getting back is lack of maturity, simple as that. These kids are in great shape and it isn't that at all. Im in my late 30's and can roll full-speed on the jiu jitsu mats for 2+ hours. These kids arent suffering in the conditioning department. The kids need to learn to first and foremost take pride in defending and rebounding as much as they do scoring and dunking. It's a transition that they are learning to make, albeit slowly.

Hopefully the thrill of a big win on the road, coupled with the fact that they won solely because they outrebounded Cincy and defended hits home.

Just watched the 1st episode of the Red Storm report...I have to say I enjoyed it and I think everyone here would. For the older guys all you have to do is go to redstormsports.com and go to the media player to watch it.

Again, just as I typed this Harkless got a steal then an assist on a Reddick 3 pointer lol...I must be good luck for him.

Last year we beat Cincinnati on the road by 2 and lost to Villanova in overtime in a game we could have easily won. Also we had bad out of conference losses to Detroit on the road and Northeastern at home.

This year we beat Cincinnati on the road by 1 and lost to Villanova in overtime in a game we could have easily won. Also we had bad out of conference losses to San Francisco on the road and Northeastern at home.

It sounds familiar: That being said I believe we are much better than last year. What made us good today was defensive intensity and effort that showed off our athleticism for the bulk of the game. Make no mistake there is talent here and if we bring it consistently for 40 minutes we will be a winning team in this conference. If we play down to our half a game efforts then a loss to Rutgers looms and the Lavin Bashers will be back in force.

The St.John's team is improving each game as players begin to understand their roles.

St.John's next 5 games are winnable.
RUTgers (@MSG),
Georgetown (@MSG),
Notre Dame (@MSG),
DePaul (away), and
RUTgers (away)

Lets hope the win over Cincy starts a nice role for St.John's
