Cincy Game

There were a number of poor shots taken down the stretch that aided Cincy's comeback, but Obepka's was probably the worst,. He should not be taking them that far out, and at that juncture, you want Harrison with the ball.

Agree except that was the first shot taken in three straight turnover possessions.
At that point you just want a shot, any shot rather than a violation or another turnover.

While a win is undeniably important, it is still apparent that two things almost made this again, a horrible loss.

One, can Phil Greene not be allowed to dribble the ball until the 10 second mark? Two, can Steve Lavin show us he can Coach a game in progress?

Taking the air out of the ball with Greene at the point was a disaster and allowed Cincy TO ALMOST WIN THIS ONE.

Harrison has to have the ball, even if double teamed.. We were lucky to escape today. Very Lucky.. Playing 34 minutes of good basketball isn't enough.

But it wasn't a loss, it was a win on the road against a top 20 team and without Jamal.
Damn when can this board ever be happy?

I think the board is cautiously optimistic waiting to see if we have a letdown vs. Rutgers which is extremely possible.

Let's not get greedy now...I'd be thrilled to go 3-2 in this stretch. Winning all 5 would make us probably #20 or #18 in the rankings.

You are out of your mind Joe3. Winning those 5 in a row will put us in a good position for an NCAA bid, no more no less. Try to be realistic in your posts.

Rutgers win over Pitt today might negate that, Joe3.

Great win today though, anyway you slice it. I especially liked the way we took the bull by the horns to end the first half. That was something Lavin mentioned as being a negative from the Villanova game. We were only up 3, but had all the momentum going into the locker room. It carried over into the 2nd half. Then, when Cincy made there run (ineviatble - They were home, and #14 in the nation, for crying out loud), Harrison hit the big one, and we had a clutch defensive stand.

Uhh...being 14-5, 6-1 in the conference while beating #14 Cincy, #15 G'Town, and #21 ND would almost definitely have us at #25. Beating 3 ranked teams (2 in the top 15) by January 12th is not normal. It's rank worthy. At the very, very least we would be getting votes and be next in line for #25. I think you are severely undercutting what it would mean to have 3 ranked wins under your belt and a 6-1 conference record if we won all 5.

Not that it changes my opinion but Georgetown lost today so they will be falling in the rankings.

Agree here joe, and I think we're talented enough to do so. Im not sure we will, but we can.

Right, and to clear things up, I'm in no way saying we will win all 5...I'm just responding to someone saying we have a chance to. All I'm saying is that if by some miracle we do win all 5, there's a very very good chance we get ranked. Won't happen though...I'll take a 3-2 record happily...if we win 5 we hit the lotto.

Some people on this site are funny with their obsession of being "ranked" or winning "X" number of games out of our next 5 games. Folks, today Rutgers beat Pitt, DePaul won on the road, the number 14 team in the nation lost at home to a team that many here wrote off after the Villanova game. This is life in the BIG EAST, if you don't know this by now, where have you been? Every game is a potential loss or a potential win. I'm willing to bet that before the season is over we will probably lose another game or two like we did against Villanova, & I'm willing to bet we eek out another ugly win like today as well. No loss, let me repeat that, no loss from this point forward should come as a shock, a disappointment, yes, but not a shock. That being said, lets worry about one thing.....Rutgers.

Obsession of being ranked? Well, you should be. Do you want to be regarded as a top 25 team, or everyone else? Being ranked is what gets you the media attention, makes recruits respect you, and shows where you are as a program. Who in their right minds on this forum would not want to crack the top 25? That's where all the best teams are. It's very hard to get ranked so when you do, it says a lot about your program. I never said we should look past Rutgers...in fact I will be worried about each and every game from here on out. DePaul, Providence, Rutgers, etc. are still gritty teams that can humble you real fast. Providence is the most dangerous in that group IMO...they can score like crazy. Once you enter Big East play, literally anything can happen. That's why I said early on that we might even beat Cuse since it's been a while. Why not? Providence did it recently.

This from a guy who after the Nova game proclaimed the season over..........for the 47th time this year. Comical....

My friend, all I care about is WINNING!!! If we cut down the nets in March or April, I couldn't care less if we are "ranked" & believe me, neither will you. Yes, I'd like to be known as a top 25 program again and being ranked is nice but WINNING is all that matters. And guess what, if you start winning, you might get your wish and actually get ranked. Now, back to what I said earlier, lets focus on the only thing that matters next....beating Rutgers

Best part of this Cincy win is that we only play them once this year so they have no shot at a re-do this season. Helps in any tie-breaker scenarios should we be lucky/good enough to be in that position at the end of the league schedule.

Didn't get to watch the game yesterday but pleasantly surprised for the win! Excellent win even if it sounds like we almost blew it down the stretch. This is a big win in terms of building confidence. We finally rebounded!

Lets go johnnies!

I'll be at the Seton Hall game. While we may lose to g town we have to win the hall game this year. We got toasted against them 2 years in a row.. Time to get a W.

I was thrilled with a top 20 win on the road. Those are tough to get.

Was nice to see Jakaar have a good game. By seasons end we will all be extremely happy with him.

The bad OOC loses are a thing of the past. True, they will probably bite us in the butt come March, but this is what sometimes happens when you play puppies on the court in Nov/Dec.

All I know is that so far we have shown BE teams that we will not be stepped on and if you want to beat us, you better bring your A game. We just had 2 exciting games on the road. I see a fun conference schedule ahead of us.

Those of you who have been bashing Lavin need to chill. Nothing wrong with questioning things, but I truly believe he will get us there.

Didn't get to see the game, yet. It's on my DVR. The info I've gotten tells me this team has turned a corner. They changed their thinking and decided that rebounding might help win games. If they keep this up we have an excellent chance at the dance! Congratulations, guys! Keep up the good work!

I really enjoyed the fact that we shut down Kilpatrick. I'm still a bit miffed over him choosing Cinci over us. I really thought he would have been the difference in this game. I guess, in a different way than expected, he was the difference.
