Chris Obekpa

Yes, truly a very good get, and a surprise one at that, if it materializes. Lavin is really a great recruiter. I like the team he has coming in a lot, wiht the mix of experience and talented newcomers. If Mo had stayed, I don't think it would have been an outrageous statement to say that we would be top tier in the BE, and able to make a great run in the tourney. Now, I think that could still happen, but there are a few more unknowns (particularly how Sampson will replace Mo, which he won;t have to do on his own). Excitig stuff.

At the time that Nolan said no didn't we have room for Nolan and Chandler ! I assume we still have room for two more plus, if we don't, -------where there's a will there's a way.

If we can get Chandler and there is no room, there will be room because he is that important to us.

We will prioritize him.

I just envision Plumlee shots being returned to sender. Ucla with their big lineup would also have a lot more trouble if they are going to leave bunnies on the glass against us. Lots of their height would be negated taking shots in the paint against such a good shotblocker in the middle of our zones. Let's get this done. Obekpa would really be a defensive game-changed for us.

CO is going to make a huge difference for us!!! not only the blocks but more imortantly the altered shots!!
great get if its all true!!!

Great news if true. Just watched the IS8 video. Based on the comments everyone has been making, I pictured seeing Phil Wait or Cujo, but the kid seems pretty athletic to me. Runs the floor well. Chased down Dunn from behind. We don't need a 15pt center on this team. Just need a big man to enforce in the lane, and he seems just the man. Would be a great cherry on the top of this recruiting class.

Nothing on the Cincy board, that place is like a ghostyard. The projo fans are once again accusing Lavin on playing dirty.

And Cooley got two top 20 kids to a basketball wasteland.
Those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Strange comment; kind of intimates the PC's and SJU's of the world can't get these kind of recruits W/O going below board - probably reading too much into it.

Speaking on Moose's behalf, I don't think he's saying Providence is cheating. He's saying, they shouldn't claim St. John's is cheating when they beat out some quality schools for Ledo and Dunn.

Basically, they have the same or similiar to what we have, but continue to speak that we're crooked while their hauls are legit. How do we know whether their hauls are legit or not? In most people opinions, we are viewed as a better overall program than Providence.

So, why they don't have to cheat to land blue-chip players, but we have to cheat (to land blue-chippers) when they are viewed as the lesser program? I think that is what Moose is stating.

Cries of Lavin's recruiting improprieties on the Cincinnati board are laughable considering their history under Huggins and the stellar character of some of Cronin's recruits. Of course, it's great to hear the news about CO ... but I'm not celebrating or getting too pumped up until it's official. For whatever reason, this kid seems to change his mind with the weather, and his latest lean toward St. John's may be, to paraphrase Ira Gershwin, just a passing fancy and in time may go. (That said, I am excited about what we're all hearing.)

Yeah I think you were looking too much into it.
Providence has been a wasteland for awhile. We can do a 10 pg thread about what makes STJ more desirable landing spot for a recruit (staff, location, MSG, etc).
Their fans should be ecstatic with the 2 players they grabbed. And like Dinkins said yea they are 'backyard' players but still beat pretty stiff competition. So to complain they are losing kids to us might not be the smartest thing to do because someone can just as easily flip the switch on them.

It's such a joke. If we were dirty, would we have lost out on so many kids in the Lavin era? Think kids like Anderson and Gathers would have left if Lavs was dirty. People hate losing (including those on our boards). Guess this kind of talk comes with the territory. I also love the fact that people keep thinking we are a bottom tier BE program. Yes we struggled that last 10 years, but they forget about the 100 years before that. It's not like we weren't landing top flight talent in the 2000's and before.

Great song, "Our Love Is Here To Stay. " The Gershwins wrote it to express their feelings towards each other.

They're not wrong Gman. I know what you mean about tradition of success and everything that gives our program potential, but it's not as obvious to the outside world as it is to us.
College sports is a what have you done for me lately world. Until we prove otherwise we are a bottom tier team.
Which is fine. We'll earn the reputation we build over the next few years.

Just shows you that other fans already fear us. Envious of a great coach we have that they wish they had

It cracks me up seeing all the fans calling Lavs sleazy. I'm sure they have never talked to the guy and seen the quality of his character up close.

What is the bottom line - - has Obekpa committed to St. John's or not?

Thanks.

People can't forget the slick back hair it rubbed them the wrong way. We have a top coach with a great staff, and good young players. Haters are gonna hate I'd rather people hate us then love us. It means we are good!
