(Charleston Classic) NORTH TEXAS, Thur., Nov. 16, 1:30p, ESPNU

It's been said time and again a win is a win, but I'm sure ambivalent about this one. I can't remember seeing a sloppier and more careless passing game at any level. CRP has a decision to make, i.e., whether to stay with Jenkins at point. His decision is going to go a long way toward shaping where this season goes. As for the rest of the team, they needed to get their collective heads out of their a#!.

I see a lot of complaints about our offense, but I give North Texas a lot of credit. They are clearly a skilled defensive team, and they totally disrupted our flow today and forced us to play their tempo. I believe it was mentioned during the broadcast that last year they allowed the fewest PPG in the nation. I know it's a new team this year, but clearly that's a part of their game.
U sound like Norm Roberts

The two missed FT sum things up. This was DISGUSTING basketball. COMPLETELY DISGUSTING would be a loss.
You right. no point guard play. No drive and dish, no drive and kick, or get to the line. Posh help joel get those doubles. I wanna see steals turn into baskets. No problem with #5 but hes missing some point guard skills. I feel like my point guard is indiana. I blame posh for not goin for it. Passing is awfull. Rick got a lot of work and he dont have to hear it for me. Gotta hope the kid fresh can help at the polnt this year. this team is not special, but it was a good defensive game. We had a guy on the team last year who killed our season. Rick would never bring in that kind of play. Good days ahead.

Again no idea what goes on in practice
But seems Dingle being scrutinized because of his D and for some reason Jenkins can do whatever he wants
Dingle does not seem comfortable
Meanwhile Jenkins seems like house guest that comes over eats all your food and clogs the toilet
:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

We got sold a bill of goods with Ledlum. Undersized not explosive scoring PF who shoots 29% from 3. Jenkins would be much better off the ball, as a PG he is a volume shooting turnover machine. Lastly, the offense needs to run through Soriano. Clearly our best player, only 5 fg attempts is not going to cut it.

Not sure where you or Main Man are coming from but this was an ugly game. That was not good enough to win most games. Not sure I would find many who would disagree. Not exactly a hot take.

Been around long enough to see David Cain and Dwight Hardy teams lose to Fordham in November and then have memorable seasons so I'm not sweating poor performances this early....

If Jenkins was any more comfortable he’d be sleeping on the beach. 1-4 from 3 and he pulls up running full speed and launches a three in transition with the whole right side open to get to the basket. It rattled in, but wtf? Who has that kind of false confidence?

That’s fair. Hope you’re right. My point was we need to be a lot better than this. I am totally on the “Pitino will get this right team”…we should expect better.

re-watched the last minute plus.. NT missed a wide open layup. Soriano makes two key foul shots. Jones, for MT, has his teammate‘s airball shot in his hands underneath with noone in position to stop the putback, but it goes right through his hands. We have the ball, Jenkins gets trapped against the endline and throws a down the line, cross court pass that is picked off under the basket. NT gets a time out to set a play for Jones. N T’s Scott takes the shot from top of key and misses. Soriano fouled and misses 2. Time runs out before NT can get off a shot.
They lost it despite us.
I hope Pitino has some new gameplan for running the offense and some sets that involve Wilcher and Dingle. Thankfully, Soriano is our consistent positive.

This is bang on! Admittedly, my expectations for the start of this season were unrealistically high and it will take some time. I just watch the shots of the sideline and see Pitino losing his marbles and know that things are going improve (a lot) – if his head doesn't explode first!

We’ll take it! It was ugly but this team is too rough and new to assume anything is a gimme. The offense was putrid at times but North Texas is a tough squad who was down for an ugly game. They’re in the American which should be a decent conference this year and if our guys are actually in contention for a NCAA bid at the end of the season, we won’t care that a win over North Texas on a neutral court was ugly. We’ll just be glad to have it.

I was really pleased by the defense today but moving forward we have to figure something out on offense. I see so many issues! They need to be more decisive. The ball stops while guys think, they don’t run enough screens for shooters and when they do the shooters aren’t running them tightly enough (they’re like looping around the screen), Joel doesn’t get enough touches, they don’t come to the ball quickly enough when a guy is in trouble and they don’t have a go to guy in the backcourt (I know people are disappointed with Jenkins at times and I get it but other guards need to WANT the ball)

3 possible fixes any of which would be a huge help (in addition to Pitino coaching them up no doubt)…

-Dingle needs to play with confidence. He can score but he looks out of sorts. Get him right.

-RJ Luis comes in and fills the role of one of the primary scoring options. I don’t know his game well but hopefully he’s a guy who knows how to get a bucket.

-Pitino activates Wilcher sooner than he wants to. I’m not saying the freshman should run the team but if he can get comfortable and Pitino gives him freedom to be aggressive and play through mistakes. He can add a dimension.

Grateful for the ugly, nasty win. A win is a win is a win. Good job to all you guys who traveled. I mentioned it earlier but you really heard the crowd lift guys after that Soriano block and 3 pointer. They needed to hear that.

We can’t worry about style wins in November.
My concern is the inability to get Joel the ball down low.

Should be an interesting semifinal tomorrow. Dayton brought a large contingent and their band as well.
Is it the inability?
Think getting the ball to Soriano does not jive with Jenkins desire to shoot as much as possible

Luis needs to cure a lot of ills. He has to be the backup 4. He has to be a playmaker since Jenkins cannot consistently get people shots at this level. And he needs to score since Dingle won’t.

Luis is the anti-Jenkins. Slow and controlled. Hopefully he can kick to our shooters when he gets in the lane.

Jenkins, Ledlum and Dingle are their main problems, maybe in that order.
early returns are that our hope to base a top 25 season and a tourney run in extremely large part on three mid-major (at best) players was too optimistic at best, and wildly delusional at worst. Hopefully the key word in that sentence is "early."
