Charles Minlend Jr.

Not sure why discussing the education offerings of various schools incl. SJU is included the Charles Minland thread. But since it is, I'll throw one out. Nursing. Seems to be a shortage of nurses. It is a relatively high paying field.

Back in the late 70s, SJU College of Pharmacy added a Medical Technology program, and then a Physicians Assistant's program and renamed the school St. John's College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions. Perhaps Bobby will be exploring ways to expand and improve education at SJU that will include these things.

Manhattan College also had a good engineering program. At least they did 25 years ago. I assume it's still good. Better coach than Rutgers, too.

Manhattan College still does have a good engineering program.

Lionel or HO?

This is very connected guy In North Carolina hoops circles. From what I read CM is really developing.

@Coach_Rick57: Per source, Minnesota was the latest school to visit Charles Minlend. K State also in the mix

Now that he appears to be moving up the charts in terms of D1 schools interested, do you have any idea why SJU is not? The truth is, he may not be a high D1 player. Or it could be that his family favors a stronger academic institution.

It's a shame if we lose kids because they feel that St. John's is not where they want to be academically. I wish the school would do more to show people its strengths.

As a Catholic school, it's amazing to me that St. John's doesn't have a medical school and hospital. It's hard to imagine anything more consistent with the school's mission than providing low-cost health care to those in need. It's also hard to imagine that SJU doesn't have an engineering program being in New York City.

Do you realize that all Catholic Hospitals in Queens have closed. There used to be three that I can name immediately, St Johns, St Josephs, and Mary Immaculate. They are all gone now. St Vincents in Manhattan is also gone. I do not know all the reasons that went into the closings, but it seems as if the presence of Catholic hospitals and schools in New York City continue to decline.

I was born at St. Vincent's...what a shame. Regardless of the shape of hospitals now in Queens, it's still hard to believe that the second largest Catholic School in the country never had a medical school.

Back to Minlend Jr.

@Coach_Rick57: NC Top 80 alum 2015 Charles Minlend @CminlendJr will be attending a year of prep school per HS coach Frank Cantadorehttp://t.co/sp3OCfU0Zm

Wonder if he goes to St, Thomas Moore where dad went.

Kid is reputed to be a very good student (like his dad)
Looks like he wants to get stronger, play better competition and get high major offers
I know that Rutgers wanted him very badly
Guess he wants to play at the highest level possible

Why is Jr. going prep? I thought that was for kids with problem school transcripts, etc.?

Not always. Some kids use an extra year to get bigger, stronger and hope for better offers.

Lionel/MTH/Rail King O Scale.

Seriously, very good School of Engineering.

Did we ever offer? We need bodies and he seems like he could be a pretty good slightly undersized SF.

now that he is going to prep for the year we dont have to offer now.... we cant wait and see how the rest of this year plays out recruiting in the next 2-3 months and then offer in July if need be for next year.

It won't matter if he still wants to go to school for engineering. Which I believe was said earlier in this thread.

I'm wondering if this is a John Oates thing where he tells Norm he's prepping, and then takes the first good offer and runs with it.

I guess he wants more than Rutgers, but no clue what he's looking for. If it's a specific school (UNC?) and they don't come calling again, then he's wasted a year. But I guess if he has a bunch of schools in mind it's less risky.

Just checked a list of the top engineering schools -- I guess if he's prepping he's trying to attract Stanford, Cal, Georgia Tech, Purdue, Illinois, Texas, USC, etc. If that's his plan, good luck to him, and hopefully he already has a promise from somewhere on the condition that he preps first.

@RHoopsRecruits: Charles Minlend Jr., a 6-4 guard from NC, will begin a postgraduate year at Fork Union (Va.) in the fall, according to @langstonwertzjr.
