my hope is that we are the much more desperate team tomorrow evening.Amaseinyourface" post=423093 said:If they’re the only desperate team saturday, we’re in trouble. Beat them and we take their spot above them in the bubble pecking order. 10 wins, +.500, tourney hopes. Hope we’re just as desperate as them.

Agree. I expect to get a good effort from the Hall, and they have the size to hurt us. Willard hasn't done a good job with that group. The Hall in this year's Big East should be a lock tournament team. Their best players are upperclassmen who have played together for years -- Mamu, Cale, Rhoden and if you want to throw Reynolds into that equation. They start 3 seniors, two juniors (one a RS junior, so even more experience). They don't go deep, and the 3 seniors plus Rhoden play substantial minutes. Only one sophomore gets really any burn at all. The Aiken-experiment has blow up on them, but even without Aiken that type of experience and talent this year should be a tourney team IMO. Both he and Cooley have underachieved if neither ends up making the dance.
I can see a lot of teams not wanting to play in the NIT in Texas where the Governor has ended mask mandates and events can have 100% attendance. College basketball is just finishing a season where many teams had to pause due to Covid. Does it really make sense to place coaches, support staff, and players in an environment that is not safe?Andrew" post=423101 said:Adam - I view you as redmen.com's top beacketologist. What are your thoughts on the NIT this year. Do you think a bunch of the bigger name schools will turn it down given COVID and the cost of traveling to a tournament that has little benefit to them?
This is 100% correct. We should root for Xavier tonight if we beat seton hall.Making Plays" post=423203 said:I was just looking at St. John's resume compared to other bubble teams and here's some scenario's I think would really help in the next week or 2.
-St. John's of course beating Seton Hall, that's the most important thing right now. No need to go any further on that.
-Xavier beating Marq, if Xavier beats them and if St.John's wins against Seton Hall, this will be the 4/5 match-up in BE tournament. It's beneficial because Xavier has a better NET than Seton Hall and more secure in the tournament than they are so this could potentially be an opportunity to beat a team in the field and pick up another Q1 win (Xavier 51 right now) a Marq win probably moves them up 3 or 4 spots, and even if St.John's beats them on a neutral court it shouldn't drop their NET much, it'll be really close.
-DePaul winning their first BE game. DePaul has a 165 NET which makes the home loss to them a Q4 loss. If they just get one win, their net should jump them below 160, and hopefully when season ends it stays there and that would turn that bad Q4 loss into a Q3 loss, which looks a whole lot better, most of the other bubble teams have Q3 losses.
-Villanova running the table until the semi-finals. Villanova is by far the best win on our resume, so need them to keep winning, not many bubble teams can claim a top 10 NET win on their resume. If we can beat Seton Hall, then beat Xavier, and upset Villanova in the Semi-Finals, that's 3 wins in a row against teams either in the field or on the bubble with possibly 2 of them being Q1 wins. I'm not sure if that puts us on the right side of the bubble, but it'll get them extremely close.

I could be wrong but I truly believe most people out there like CMA as well as SJU and would like to see him in the Big Dance.QueensBall" post=423908 said:Well, Lunardi had us as the last team in the Next Four Out. Let's see what happens if we win a couple more.
Edited to add: Also just popped back up in ESPN's updated Bubble Watch...https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/team/_/id/2599/st-johns-red-storm]St. John's Red Storm You just can't keep St. John's out of Bubble Watch. Six straight wins landed the Red Storm here in early February. Then three losses in four games earned them a brief period of invisibility around these parts. Now Mike Anderson's men are back, thanks to victories at home over Providence and fellow bubble aspirant Seton Hall. Wins on the road at UConn and at home over Villanova give this profile enough heft to get St. John's in the conversation. Now there's work to be done at the Big East tournament.
