...Can we make the Tournament?

None of this matters if they lose this weekend.  I expect to see a desperate SHU team playing for their Tourney lives so they aren't going to roll over.

If they’re the only desperate team saturday, we’re in trouble. Beat them and we take their spot above them in the bubble pecking order. 10 wins, +.500, tourney hopes. Hope we’re just as desperate as them.

Adam - I view you as redmen.com's top beacketologist. What are your thoughts on the NIT this year. Do you think a bunch of the bigger name schools will turn it down given COVID and the cost of traveling to a tournament that has little benefit to them?

If they're fortunate enough to win tommorow they'll start being mentioned but won't truly be back on the bubble unless they win against Xavier/Hall/whoever that 1st BET game is against. Honestly though to be on the "good side" of the bubble they can't lose until the BET final. And as has been said, once you're there you may as well win it. Maybe I'm wrong but my gut says just beating Seton Hall and winning that 1st BET will leave us a couple of teams away from a 12 seed/first four. DePaul loss was 3 steps backward. Possible but they've got to play like they did during the winning streak.

my hope is that we are the much more desperate  team tomorrow evening.
beat them and on one hand the season is a big success, a winning record, multiple road wins, 10 conference wins with a chance to go farther. Something we were dreaming of in early November with next to no chance in mid January.
tomorrow night is huge, never mind the fact that we often go head to head against the Hall for recruits.

Agree.  I expect to get a good effort from the Hall, and they have the size to hurt us.  Willard hasn't done a good job with that group.  The Hall in this year's Big East should be a lock tournament team.  Their best players are upperclassmen who have played together for years -- Mamu, Cale, Rhoden and if you want to throw Reynolds into that equation.  They start 3 seniors, two juniors (one a RS junior, so even more experience).  They don't go deep, and the 3 seniors plus Rhoden play substantial minutes.  Only one sophomore gets really any burn at all.  The Aiken-experiment has blow up on them, but even without Aiken that type of experience and talent this year should be a tourney team IMO.   Both he and Cooley have underachieved if neither ends up making the dance.

Was in St. Armands in Sarasota for dinner this evening, and who do we run into, but Dickie V.!  Honestly not a fan of his, but had a chance to talk with him about the Redmen.  And when I said Redmen, he didn't flinch.  Feels they have to win the BET to get an NCAA bid.  Said they have had a real good season, loves Champ and Posh, and especially loves CMA!

I can see a lot of teams not wanting to play in the NIT in Texas where the Governor has ended mask mandates and events can have 100% attendance. College basketball is just finishing a season where many teams had to pause due to Covid. Does it really make sense to place coaches, support staff, and players in an environment that is not safe?

Teams have spent a whole season doing what is necessary to keep their programs as safe as possibe by following the suggested guidelines. Does it really make sense to go against all you have done the past five months for the NIT? Talk about throwing caution to the win. Additionally, teams risk reprecussions if any of their players or support staff get infected with covid. The first thing that will be said is that they knew the situation was dangerous but went anyway. Why did you stay in hotels where people are walking around without masks? Why are you playing in crowded arenas where people are not wearing masks?

Don't think that risking anyone's health is worth playing in this year's NIT.

I was just looking at St. John's resume compared to other bubble teams and here's some scenario's I think would really help in the next week or 2.

-St. John's of course beating Seton Hall, that's the most important thing right now.  No need to go any further on that.

-Xavier beating Marq, if Xavier beats them and if St.John's wins against Seton Hall, this will be the 4/5 match-up in BE tournament.  It's beneficial because Xavier has a better NET than Seton Hall and more secure in the tournament than they are so this could potentially be an opportunity to beat a team in the field and pick up another Q1 win (Xavier 51 right now) a Marq win probably moves them up 3 or 4 spots, and even if St.John's beats them on a neutral court it shouldn't drop their NET much, it'll be really close.

-DePaul winning their first BE game.  DePaul has a 165 NET which makes the home loss to them a Q4 loss.  If they just get one win, their net should jump them below 160, and hopefully when season ends it stays there and that would turn that bad Q4 loss into a Q3 loss, which looks a whole lot better, most of the other bubble teams have Q3 losses.

-Villanova running the table until the semi-finals.  Villanova is by far the best win on our resume, so need them to keep winning, not many bubble teams can claim a top 10 NET win on their resume.  If we can beat Seton Hall, then beat Xavier, and upset Villanova in the Semi-Finals, that's 3 wins in a row against teams either in the field or on the bubble with possibly 2 of them being Q1 wins.  I'm not sure if that puts us on the right side of the bubble, but it'll get them extremely close.

This is 100% correct.  We should root for Xavier tonight if we beat seton hall.

I dont know if its enough, but beating, SH, Xavier snd then Nova should put us right on or near the bubble.

Well we will find out our place quickly. If UConn wins against GT (they play in 40 minutes) we can finish no lower than 6th.

Does a 26-3 Belmont team make it as an at-large? They are getting killed now. That steals a spot from someone if they do get selected.

I don't know if we get in or not but I know one thing... this was a fun ass season. Thanks Mike A and the players. Regardless of how it plays out this upcoming week. What a ride

Well, Lunardi has us as the last team in the Next Four Out. Let's see what happens if we win a couple more.

Edited to add: Also just popped back up in ESPN's updated Bubble Watch...https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/team/_/id/2599/st-johns-red-storm]St. John's Red Storm You just can't keep St. John's out of Bubble Watch. Six straight wins landed the Red Storm here in early February. Then three losses in four games earned them a brief period of invisibility around these parts. Now Mike Anderson's men are back, thanks to victories at home over Providence and fellow bubble aspirant Seton Hall. Wins on the road at UConn and at home over Villanova give this profile enough heft to get St. John's in the conversation. Now there's work to be done at the Big East tournament.

I could be wrong but I truly believe most people out there like CMA as well as SJU and would like to see him in the Big Dance.
Yes there is work to be done next week but I don't believe we have to win it to get in. I honestly believe that if we can win our next 2 games we will hear our named called on selection Sunday.
Our fate is in our hands. Nova is injured unfortunately and Creighton unfortunately is dealing with an internal crisis. The road is easier but we have to win. Rest up and get ready for Thursday night boys.

Great! We couldn't have asked for any more this season, after being picked to finish near the bottom of the conference.

We will beat Seton hall in the quarters and Xavier will lose to uconn in the quarters.  At that point, no one can have either Xavier or seton hall ahead of us regarding an ncaa tournament bid.

I agree with the duke and the committee will probably give the big east four bids. We don't want a surprise big east winner other than ourselves.
