Bye Bye Sampson

And why not? -Desco

Becuase:
1. School will not shell out $ for top tier coach

1. School just paid two million to get rid of a mediocre coach.

That's quite a supposition there Fun. Very likely the two negotiated a buyer far less than $2 million. If school paid $2 million buy out, headline would not read "Mutual Parting of Ways."

See no reason why Lavin would budge on the buyout.

They mutually decided that Lavin wasn't taking a paycut and that it would not behoove the U to have a lame duck coach so STJ had to give him walking away money like promised.

It's a supposition based on his reported buy out. If not mutual what should the headline have read? If SJU decided to terminate Lavin could he have refused? Headline: Lavin fired, barricades himself in office, orders take out from Raos."

Now if they hire someone on the cheap it evens out.
Hope I am wrong. Don't expect much.
Sad really as I was not a Lavin guy, but I just don't have a good feeling about this.
Cupboard is so bare, will need a proven recruiter. Don't trust anything else, and I have always been a X and O guy over recruiter.

If we hire Mullin or Hurley, first order of business will be address current players and current recruits. If you were these guards coming here to play, would you want a HOF player and all time great at St Johns coaching you ? Hummm..... exactly. Hire Mullin, he can convince them to still be committed.
Step 1- Hire Mullin
Step 2- Get Slice here!
Step 3- X/O guy

Even though most people on here don't like him, I think Amaker would be great hire. He will be able to recruit, he can coach, and I think he would stay for extended period of time

We all knew this one likely come, but Brandon chose us because of the PT and the opportunity available. It is imperative that we get a new coach signed and announced quickly to get Brandon back and finish up the recruitment of Diallo, the Greek kid, and others.

Players commit to coaches not schools, all these guys are off the table now

Simply not true. Won't be easy, but kids commit for a variety of reasons.
And the truth is its late in the game for recruits too. Other teams have signed lots of players and have less PT to offer than they did in the fall.

What planet are you living on? In today's age, anyone who signs to SJU it's because of the coach. Certainly not the luxuries of our campus...

1) playing time
2) Under Armour

I hope you are right and he re-commits but his coach said that there were already 11 teams contacting him within 1 hour of his backing off and now we don't even have a coach. Hope we hire someone quick.

LOL that'd be like a top 5 class nationally.

It says he hasn't decommitted but will look at who they bring in. Some hope.

Under Armor likely reminded him of their promise of an endorsement deal after college.

Family has indicated he has not decommitted & is waiting to see how things sort out at SJU. Could we lose him? Of course. Is it possible to salvage this if SJU moves swiftly? Of course.

No one hates it more than me than when I'm the voice of reason. But who cares? I've never seen Sampson play but unless he is the baby Jesus of four star shooting guards, who cares? The fact that SJ fans are hanging their hopes on someone they've never seen play except on a youtube highlight video is proof of how far in the toilet this program is. Is he better than Harrison? Because Harrison was one of the great 4 year players in SJU history and he led the team nowhere.

The program was in the toilet 5 years ago and is heading back there unless the school actually makes a good decision for a change. You want to bet on those odds? Any real St John's fan would care when a great player who we had yesterday is lost.

Will be immediate indicator of new coach's ability to recruit...if he can't retain the kid, we probably will have made the wrong choice
