Butler, Tue., Jan. 2, 8:30p, FS-1

Having not followed Butler, is there any post player on the team that should present a challenge to Soriano?
I haven't watched them either but they look like a very well balanced team. They seem to play four guards/small forwards most of the time and with the exception of Posh shoot the three very well. They have two main bigs with Jalen Thomas being the starter. Very good rebounder and shot blocker. Not a huge offensive threat. They have a 7'1 guy who comes off the bench but also not a huge offensive threat. They seem pretty good overall. I would expect a fast paced game.

Oh, I see. yeah I don't think it was a shot on purpose but it is the truth, that's what I meant.

Who care. He is talking about Posh, what he means to his team and his development, part of which apparently included learning “help defense.” If that is deemed to be a shot at Anderson so be it.

I am looking forward to the game tonight.

I have watched 2 of their games this season and your analysis seems spot on. It will be a fast paced game and if we play our defense, it will slow them down and we will come away with a "W". If we don't defend we will be looking at an "L".

Per Bart we are currently a 10 seed with a 71.6% chance of getting a bid which again I do think is quite generous right now. That said, a win tonight increases our chances by 4.2% while a loss drops it 29.8% and puts us under 50% to get a bid. Must hold serve at home against the middle/bottom of the league

This is precisely how I feel about the team. I see us as in now and out if we lose this game…and it could ping-pong back and forth several times this season.

The margin of error in home games against middle of the conference teams like this is almost non-existent.

HUGE game! Lets go!
Thad Matta is a excellent Coach and has the Resume to prove it .

I’m sure he has contributed to improving Posh’s skills as much as he can .

That said , the team in home uniforms tonight is our Team .

The Team in their away uniforms are the Opponent . They are standing in the way of our making the NCAA Tourney .

Nothing else needs be said.

Thank you, (unmentionable), for your contributions to this program.

NOW LET'S WIN THIS GAME!!!

I will root for Posh to score ZERO points have 20 turnovers and we win by 20 plus with no overtime. Isn’t that what an actual fan of St. John’s would want want??

You can’t have it both ways and be a Johnny fan in this one. Posh went with the money, remember that.
I suppose the answer is you root for Posh not to adversely impact St Johns chances of winning. Wishing him to have the worst game in the history of college basketball is a bit much.

Exactly. Have to beat the bottom 5 teams at home. End of story. Xavier (done), Butler and Seton Hall are the toughest tests. Then have to sweep the bottom two, and take at least one and preferably two from the other three on the road. That gets you to 8 or 9 conference wins. Two more out of the 10 against the top 5, which would stand as quality wins, would put you on the bubble probably still needing to show in the BET. More than that and you're in good shape. If the team puts themselves in the same position as they were against Uconn regularly against the top teams they will get some. Have to play like that the majority of the time if they're going to dance in March.

The stakes are high in this game. It might also be very telling in terms of Pitino's roster management and deciding not to keep Posh. I truly believe that if Pitino really wanted Posh to stay, he'd still be here.

Was definitely A win. Last time I was in that building. I think Ellison closed the game out with a steal. Jack Kaiser bobblehead night.

Classy prescription for fans:

1. Standing ovation during introductions.
2. Cheer first basket
3. Boo him out of respect after that.

That was how Mike Piazza was treated first game back as a Padre. Piazza homered first time up and was cheered. Homered second time up and was cheered again. As he strode to plate for third AB was loudly booed.

Exactly, we can talk about quads, neutral sites, quality losses until we are blue in the face, but what it comes down to is we need to be solo 5th place in the BE to feel ok about making the tournament. Providence, Bulter, X, Seton Hall, and Us will be clawing at that tooth and nail. We have to defend our home court especially against these teams. No doubt a big game where we either hold serve or dig ourselves into a little hole.

Hopefully Jenkins exhibits the shot selection he did during the Hofstra game and Joel shakes off the underwhelming game and reverts to how he's been playing for the last 2 years. It should be a fun one.

Another unpopular opinion from RSR, I like the 8:30 games and would be much happier if all our weekday MSG games were at that time :D!
