Butler, Sat., Jan. 4 , 2p, FS-1

No it's not incumbent on the losing team to run back and play D and at least appear to guard the basket. This has nothing to do with Butler's self respect because they already got beat by double digits. It has everything to do with Wilcher hot dogging it at the end of the game after he shot a woeful 1 for 8 with 0 for 3 from the three point
They didn’t get beat yet. There was still time on the clock. If Butler would have run back and stood anywhere near Witcher then he would have just dribbled out the clock. Let’s just say we disagree

Eh, leave my guy Sim alone. He is a wonderful kid who plays the game and supports his teammates with absolute joy. I love the kid.

I agree it is a teachable moment for him but it absolutely was not meant to show the other team up or be a hotdog play. It was just an expression of basketball joy at winning a game after a tough slog.

Do I want him to do it? No. But let's not overreact and also understand the kind of person we are talking about. Simeon is an A+ person. Not immune from mistakes. But a pure heart.
I agree with almost everything you said but it was still a bush league play. I've watched a lot of college basketball in my life and what he did was not just an expression of basketball joy. There was no reason for it especially after playing a piss poor game.

He was hurt…didn’t use his right hand on layup line…only entered game during latter part of 1st half because of foul trouble to others
So.....Pitino puts in a one-handed player who could get further injured because of foul trouble in the first half when Lefty was also available. SMH! I could have thought of other better rotations than risking further injury to a 6'4" player.

The criticism of Kadary has been warranted. But how about giving credit where credit is due.

Butler up 52-51 6:50 left; Telfort drives to middle of the lane and Kadary comes up with the strip steal.

Tied 55-55 4:48 left; Kadary running point against zone zips pass to cutting RJ for dunk. SJU 57-55

SJU 57-55 4:24 left; Kadary defensive rebound
With 4:16 left; Butler backcourt pass stolen by Kadary and he converts driving layup. SJU 59-55

SJU 59-58 3:12 left; Kadary defensive rebound
With 2:50 left, Kadary drives lane for layup. SJU 61-58.

SJU 63-58 1:46 left; Kadary strip/steal against a driving McCaffrey. Eventually fouled on other end , hits 1 of 2 FTs. SJU 64-58.

Took over the game in crunch time. Obviously 1-4 from the line is a major issue and his performance to date has not been game changing. But today he did what needed to be done to get a win.
Great recap

I think most fans are critical of KD because he is capable of doing much better and for whatever reason does the minimum needed to get by ..........perhaps not having any school pride plays a factor in today's mercenary players who are content just collecting a check not based on performance and who are no longer motivated by becoming an NBA player because they know they are actually at their peak and actually read their scouting reports.

Considering the seasons Spurs, the Jets and the Isles are having, I’ll take 12-3, 3-1 BE at this time. It’s all I really have to hang my hat on (besides Spurs maybe nicking an English or Europa trophy).
Spurs and St. Johns as well. We must be gluttons for punishment.

Sim is a great kid. Speak from personal experience.

Look, Kadary won the game for us the last 6+ minutes. That’s not debatable. That being said, I believe the thing that upsets posters on this board is that they want to see him play that way for the other 34 minutes of the game also. He’s obviously capable of it and if this team is to reach its full potential we are going to need that level of play from Kadary for a full game. This team will not achieve the goals they set out to accomplish otherwise.

You know its bad when pitino is pining for last years team in the press conference.
What he’s basically saying is that last years back court was far superior, especially in basketball IQ then thus years squad. Smith may be athletically more gifted but to date Kadary and Wilcher are not close.

That was a very unjinx like lucky win. They shot 9 for 20 from the line and we got a lot of home cooking from the stripes down the stretch.

1 for 21 in the cozy confines of the gym we're most familiar with is darn near impossible. This is now a full blown epidemic. We're badly in need of an exorcist or at least a good sports psychologist. School record worst ever 3 point performance? Conference record? Must at least be the record for a home game.

Is this the 2nd blown cover due to a late failed slam dunk contest attempt? If so, I feel bad for those that support the team not only with their hearts and feet but with their wallets.

Really rough watch today, but I think we are better than this. This team plays really solid defense and rebounds well. I think the shooting will come.

The majority of this year we've seen the main guys show a very good 15 foot shot. That seems to be missing the last two games, which is a bigger reason they've struggled on offense. They also seem to be missing good looks from behind the arc. Maybe a confidence thing that can resolve itself with one good night. These guys are not going to finish the year shooting under 20% from three (fingers crossed).
