Butler Game

Sorry folks, but this is a mediocre team in a mediocre conference. Good teams don't lose that game at home. There's still some time, but this season could easily spiral out of control. I know it's not popular to say this sort of stuff around here, but it's true.

Mediocre conference? BE is ranked second....

That said, I have no faith in SJU so who cares anymore.

So you only joined this site this season after we got off to the great start, and now you sit here and act like your opinion matters to all of the people who have been on here for years and years....

I've been on this site for YEARS. Yes, I created this account this year but I've been here for a long time, reading every comment in every thread. Most message boards I never post on, just read. I've also posted on other message boards throughout the years supporting SJU.

EDIT: and I both joined and posted before the season.

Right....so you have been on this site for years.....and you just so happened to decide to create a new account this year (which coincidentally happens to be our best start in 20yrs)???

Terrible ball movement, poor execution of the press, bad late game fouls on the wrong players. We stink when Dom does not play well. Branch needs to give us some offense. Why no Stewart?

What an awful, depressing week!

Can someone explain to me how our PG was so highly rated and can't shoot a lick?

Probably the same old, same old story. These athletes score on layups, and steals in high school and come to college without a jump shot. Why they don't develop one is a mystery.

I have said it before, and I will say it again. We get the athletes with holes in their games. The athletes that can also shoot are coveted by the major programs, and they flock to them. Shooters don't come here because the 3 has never been part of the curriculum at SJU. If you wanted to be a nuclear physicist, would you go to a liberal arts college? no, you would go to M.I.T. If you were a guy that could drill 3's, you would go to a coach and a program that emphasizes that part of the game. Same story since the 3 point shot became part of college basketball. Look at today's game. Another sub-par effort from long range.

When was the last time this team ran a play on offense that wasn't just isolation. This is all on Lavin. The players are playing their hearts out, with the results not showing.

I also realized why Lavin loves PGIV so much. He does exactly what he tells him to do. At halftime, Lavin's interview with the reporter he stated that he wants us to move east- west before north and south. That is exactly what PGIV does and it doesn't accomplish anything. It just kills 20 seconds off of the shot clock. Lavin isn't just a bad in game coach, he's a terrible in game coach. How a coach could make it to this level with his coaching philosophies (or lack thereof) is absolutely mind boggling.

Every bodies been talking about Sheed being a prima dona and having an ego, well I think Lavin is worse. Taking these recruiting trips to Europe and Cali aren't because he spotted talent, they are vacations for him and his wife. He won't even take a 20 min drive to see some great talent in NYC.

He also hasn't developed any single player since he has been here. Every players on court development has been because of someone else. Jon Lucas developed both DLo and CO. Nobody else on this team has made a significant improvement from year one to now.

I've been optimistic about this team and this season, but it's time for Lavin to go. Enough of him just being a guidance counselor. We need a coach

Every game has a goat so who was it today?

Lavin for having a 5 man roster with 2 offensive players.

Lavin probably walks away after this season with a nice job at Fox Sports on the west coast, but we are left to live with the remaining lack of talent. It's not completely his fault, the administration basically killed this program when it hired Norm Roberts and kept him around for so long. After that, the pickings were pretty slim as far as "big name" hires were concerned. That said, for a supposedly great recruiter, after making an initial splash, Lavin has left a lot to be desired.
The staff did not work. This team should have 2 sophs, and 2 fresh, all 3 stars and serviceable. Kids are being put in a bad spot. The staff let them down.

The little that I have seen of Stewart this year, he looked like a deer caught in the headlights.

Uhhh reread my post. As I just said, I've been posting before the season started (the summer to be exact). And our expectations weren't exactly high coming into this year. Look at my post history if need be. And, as if I needed to say anything further, technically I created this account over a year ago.

Agree, or one that was already hit by a car.

but that is the type of 4 year player guys are clamoring for. Barlow, starting guard, is a walk on baseball player. You either want athletes, shooters, heady players 4 year players, one and doners or what?????

Maybe he can be a contributor down the road just doesn't look ready now. Why the hell should we have to rely on FRESHMAN WALK ONS anyway. I want good basketball players not strickly ones labeled an athlete, a shooter, heady, 4 or one year player.

What an awful, depressing week!

Other teams will key on Harrison and that will hurt because we really dont have much offense. Branch is a nice point guard but Jordan was so much more superior just a little raw with his talent. The best team would have been Jordan as a starter and Pointer as the sixth man.

I feel awful for Harrison and the other seniors who clearly try so hard and may not make it. Really unfair for them.

Phil Greene dropped the ball! Probably blame Branch for passing it too hard.

Greene was 6-11 from the field today, but posters will find some way to kill him.

Yeah well Marillac, if the ball doesn't slip out of his hands and hits the 3, well guess what?
It's tied. The loss isn't on him but that was huge.
Well whoever said: " If Jordan is done, then we're done." Is 100%. I was just hoping that others would step it, well here are our sub #s 1board and 1 lousy assist.

I hate to sould negative but if no Jordan on Tuesday then we'll be 0-3.
I think he would have been the difference today.

And if Obekpa shot 10/10 form three, we'd win. What's the point?
We have two scoring threats without Jordan. Harrison and Greene can't even breathe out there.

We didn't lose today because of Phil Greene. Pointer shot three treys (0-3) and took 13 shots (4-13). We can't win that way. If Branch takes 13 shots tonight instead, we would have won. Apparently the kid just doesn't want to shoot, though.

in 45 years of watching bball this is the worse half court offense I have ever seen ..EVER SEEN it is sad to watch

But at least you spent 7 of those 45 years in the good company of Tom Hanks when he was a castaway! :)

Last couple of years staff took the easy road. Instead hitting the pavement and bringing in quality they brought in walkons. Now that the staff is fat and fully rested, the kids can bust hump and play 40 every game. We were short players a few years back and coach said SJU would never find themselves in that position again. I have been a Lav backer until now, when realizing the neglect of the last couple of years has left the team a skeleton of what it should be. Only the guy who pays the staff can ask them what they have been doing.

I couldn't agree more. Branch seems to lack desire.

It may be confidence.
