Butler 2nd time

CO really needs help. The smile should have tipped me off. If he hurts someone bad it's gonna stick to the program.
CO has to be the dumbest imbecile to ever play this game! No basketball IQ at all!

This could have been another turning point for the SJU program. Here is my Doomsday prediction:
Obekpa's not coming back. If he doesn't get drafted - which is a strong possibility with his lack of offense - he'll just go to Europe or China for a year or two, earn a couple of million per year , then try for a shot in the league.
Jordan certainly not returning ...who knows what he does..not NBA ready, so could transfer or do same thing as Obekpa, just to help support his family.
You'll lose Balamou or Jones (or both) to transfer to mid-majors, because they just will get recruited over.

You can forget about Diallo.
Sampson or Doughty - probably the former - will decommit.
Whoever is the coach next year - even if it's Lavin - will have to raid the JUCO circuit just to put a team on the floor, and this will send the program into another 10 year spiral ala Post-Jarvis.
The women's program might make a Final Four before the Men's program makes another tournament.
Can we hire Tartamella?

Prefer to think we win the next three (Creighton, DePaul and at X) and get back to .500

Chalk today up to a bad day at the office. CO certainly did not help matters and might be looking at a suspension. A win at Butler was always unlikely, we need to forget it quickly and take some revenge out on the Bluejays.

Way to stay level.

BTW, if anyone ever complains about the lack of fan support or attendance at SJU games, just tune in to the SHU-DePaul game. There are more people posting on Redmen.com right now than fannies in the seats out in Chi-town. Geesh.

Absolutely played like garbage start to finish, but this game really give Butler a shot in the head.

Game over at the moment of the accidental elbow to the head.

Instead of using that moment-ya know, the accidental elbow moment-to motivate us, we let it unhinge us. I know D'Lo has been hampered by injuries, but his leadership skills are no longer evident. I don't get it. Without him, we've got no leader on the court.
"Unhinged" is right on the $$, from players to staff. Disappointing to see a team with so much experience react that way.

And if CO gets suspended, then what?

It's kind of time to just stop thinking this team is anything more than we saw tonight.

Harrison: Best scorer in the big east, a senior, has been rendered completely useless by constantly getting clobbered and run over. He straight up can't move. Never would have happened to a Duke or Cuse player. Boeheim would have been reaming refs and opposing coach over it.

This is idiotic.
You can't blame Lavin for Harrison's injury. He plays to contact, drawing fouls is a huge part of Dlo's game. And he has a calf strain, not broken bones from a hard foul.

I can't believe I'm in the position of defending Lavin. I feel sick[/quote

As for the term "idiotic", I sent a report to the moderator. It's insulting and I hope it won't be tolerated.

As for the content, I never said it was Lavin's fault exclusively. We have had awful officiating all year. The worst I've ever seen, and I follow the team for 25 years.

Every trip down the floor is a case study in selective enforcement. A set of rules for them and another for us. Partly due to Lavin and partly due to the surly demeanor of some of our players, but still not acceptable. The rules should be the rules. Period.

So sick of watching Harrison get clobbered. He was leading the big east in scoring only a few weeks ago! Now he can't even take a shot.

Again you can't fault the effort from the guys smart enough not to flagrantly deck an opponent. The played extremely hard however 5 players playing hard individually can't beat 5 players playing as a team. Time to start looking in a new direction. We need a coach that knows X's and O's. Bring in a solid mid major up and comer and let's move on. Maybe we can build a roster with a few guards, a few forwards and a couple if centers. I see no positive by keeping SL another year.

They just play dumb

For better or worse Obekpa is probably the most important player on the team due to the fact that the defense is built around funneling shots for him to block and deter and how he starts the break with those blocks and forced bad misses. When he made that bonehead play (on the road no less) it sealed our fate tonight. What an awful play.

Jones is just too much for Harrison to beat consistently and that is why guys like Harrison don't project well at the next level.

Our guys need to keep their cool better. Stuff like what happened tonight doesn't just stay in the game, it follows the player and the team the entire season. It can be the difference between a close non-call and a game-altering tech in the Big East Tournament.

This team is so bad, and in such bad shape going forward, it's just really not worth spending any time obsessing over it. The whole program needs a complete makeover form the AD down.

A few things from this embarrassment: 1) this group is one of the least cohesive, least communicative defensive groups I've seen in a long time. I watched Lavin screaming at them to trap while they walked back in the 2nd half. It was a Butler layup drill with no one talking to each other. And heaven forbid one of them gets posterized, they'd rather get out the way and concede points than challenge. 2) most great teams have either a dominant center or point guard, we have neither. If any of our boys can get paid to play they should go instantly, because from my vantage point I'm upset that I paid to see that. If anyone is fearful either should declare, I promise you, it will be ok. 3) This was one of the worst officiated games I've watched at this level. I'm not big on ragging on officials but there was NO consistency at all in this game. I don't remember a game where, pro or con, I disagreed more. Just bad.
I admit to being swept up in 11-1 and #15, but these individual kids have immense physical attributes, little cohesiveness, and don't form a good basketball team. That's on the boys and the coaches.

We are a much better team than we saw tonight. Sure, Butler took us to the woodshed but its not like we were favorites. Regroup, refocus and win the next one. This is the same bunch that beat Providence 2x, Syracuse, ran Duke and Gonzaga close. Even if CO is suspended, we should be able to beat Creighton at home. That will get us off the slide. Tonight was one loss. Still a lot of ball to play. I am not defending Lavin, or CO or D'Lo, but not willing to throw them under the bus or throw in the towel either. There is still fight left in this team.

First off, look up the term; "senselessly foolish, or stupid". How does thst not apply?
And I specifically referred to your remark, not you as a person Brian.
So I think you're overreacting a bit.

But regardless (and ignoring the profanity you originally posted), I think you're seeing things through red tinged glasses. Harrison gets plenty of calls. There is no mass conspiracy that allows defenses to beat up dangelo.
And you strongly implied that a better coach would have imposed his will on the officials therefore preventing Harrison's injury.
I unapologetically think that line of argument is senselessly foolish. I'm sure you're a fine person, but how Harrison is treated, and whether Lavin is at all to blame for his injury, is just something were going to have to agree to disagree about.

That was rough.
So rough.
Top to bottom.
Just rough.

Not gonna stop rooting but darn.
That sucked big time.

This clearly your disappointment getting the better of you.
We lost to a better team on the road. We would have beat them at home if Sheed didn't have the maturity of a sixth grader. The are the #15 ranked team in the RPI, they beat UNC on a neutral court....they are better than us.

We're not though. Sure, we are capable of playing better at times, but this team is just not able to consistently play at a high level. It's up and down group. At this point, it is what it is, and there isn't any reason to expect that to change. For the most part, it's a tease.

I agree.
I am an optimistic fool.
But I will watch and I will cheer.
I am will not be ashamed.
We still can.
