Bryant, Wed., Dec. 11, 7p, CBSSN

Am a big fan of Glover’s potential, but suspect Pitino is not going to increase his minutes until he is satisfied with his defense. Rick seems to think Brady’s D has improved apparently.
As I have said, Dunlap does some things well. No problem with him being in rotation.
Smith, Prey and Dunlap should be main bench guys. If looking for shooting think Glover should be 9th guy whose mins fluctuate depending on him making shots.
If he is hitting shots, then yes I am sure Brady’s mins will be negatively affected that game.

Dunlap is still shooting 36.7% from three! He's one good game from being north of 40%. He's also at the start of his SOPHOMORE season and will learn to pick his shots better. The criticism is almost mind-boggling. If this kid played on Creighton our entire forum would be crying why we can't get players like him. Brady could be a killer next year.

He's 23% against our best opponents this year.

As long as team's opposing defenses respect his shot, he will be important in spacing the floor. 37% is that sweet spot percentage. He was 2/5 against Baylor, but being 1-8 against UGA, K-State and New Mexico (no attempts) makes me curious if high major programs will actually respect his shot moving forward.

It is a very hard role to fill. I had that role in HS. Miss first 2 shots and get taken out.

Three things though:
One he has been given a much longer leash then most in that role. Larry Wright for instance shot 43% from three as a Frosh on the worst shooting team ever and still Norm never played him. He won a game with a 3 against ND and played like 5 mins the next game.

Two, he should be commended for holding himself accountable and seems like real good kid.

Three however is, why is he in that role? Don’t think suited for it and I feel it is a detriment to both him and the team. He does some things well, stop hanging out out on perimeter looking to shoot threes. I think he would be more serviceable by doing the small things he does do well and not have the pressure of being counted on to do something that he is not proficient at.
I agree with your points, but it sounds like Brady's self-imposed the role on him if you read Zach's most recent article.

"I’m not shooting as well as I’d like to be shooting,” Dunlap said on Tuesday over Zoom as St. John’s prepared to meet Bryant at Carnesecca Arena on Wednesday night. “It’s kind of bothering me, it’s kind of my role on the team, even though the coaching staff isn’t really going to [harp on it]. They think I’m playing well, yada, yada, yada, but I need to make shots.”

To Marillac's point if Brady were to go 3-5 from three tonight he'd be at 40% for the year. Whatever Brady says, fair to say he was playing hurt in the Virginia & Georgia games since he got the shot after returning. Pitino clearly doesn't think he hurts us when he's on the court in other respects so seems fair to wait for a larger sample size before we conclude he can't be a decent knock down shooter (i.e. 35-40%).

His tightens up when he shoots and he is aiming his shots. Relax and let it flow.
He also doesnt understand what being open is. He releases every shot as quick as he can. The majority of these shots he is wide open and he needs to take him time and bury it.

Its like hes always concerned his shot is going to get blocked something and just releases waaaaay too quickly.

Agree with a lot of comments on this thread.

Brady does a lot of things that contribute to winning. He needs to shoot better and you can take your pick about whether it's mental/feeling pressure, physical/injury, or he just can't shoot. I am inclined to #1 but YMMV.

Glover at this point is a chucker, basically. When they go in it's great, but his court awareness and defense are ... not awesome. I fully expect that with coaching and experience he will improve as did Wilcher.

Now back to Bryant when hopefully Brady will find his stroke and the margin will be wide enough that Glover can get 10 minutes in the second half to learn some stuff.

Maybe because he is half way thru his sophomore year and has NOT distinguished himself as a shooter. Yet. Will he? Most college players have acclimated themselves by now, some by middle of their first year. It takes kids different times to acclimate, I know, but I think he might be better served as a defense and rebound guy, at his height. Shoot a little but not be committed to the 3, and maybe drive a little.

It feels like he’s shooting 20%. I was surprised to see the 37

If Brady can just gain his confidence and continue it he has all of the makeup to be the face of the program over the next couple of years. His IQ and awareness are years beyond his age.

Prediction... Let down game the first 25 mins... for obvious reasons... coming off probably the most emotionally hyped game following Lou's passing. Crowd won't be the same... Prob not many people showing up for "Bryant"...

-Pinzon Factor... i think he comes out firing... he has the green light on this team, and we arent the best at covering the 3pt line in the 1H of games.
-Down single digits at half
-Pull away around the 8min mark in the 2H
-14 pt Win

The proverbial slow StJ first half starts are a concern. Not sure that happens here, but we've seen it before this year.

Weather sounds kind of iffy in Queens, hope that doesn't negatively impact attendance.
