Bryant, Wed., Dec. 11, 7p, CBSSN

There's not many teams that only have 2-3 buy games...and we're not Kansas or Alabama...you need games to work out the kinks...
Yes, a scrimmage w/ rutgers and 3 cupcake games are more than enough to do that.

The next round of games b4 non conference should be vs the new mexicos and kansas st of the world.

I dont think its helpful to be playing baylor etc then gojng backwards and playing bryant/deleware.

i dont mind a "break" game coming off 3 tough games... ala your boy Hurley when Uconn came back from Maui...

I think both Delaware and Bryant are actually good games to schedule. Not cupcakes at all and have been competitive the last few years if they can remain that way.

At least this starts at 7. Going out to Queens for 6:30 game against Sister Mary's is just a killer. Sitting on the Jackie Robinson or LIE for an hour to watch 10 minutes of competitive ball.

I expect this game to be closer than Kansas St. Not so much a let down by us (maybe to start) - but think they keep it within 10-15. Dont think we see the same Zuby (he clearly plays up to the comp- which is good) - but maybe some more experimenting by Rick- getting Jaiden/Prey/Vince more mins....

And... dont laugh... but Pinzon... lol.... dudes a bucket. kid is shooting 53%!!! from 3.... he's a Senior now... really liked him when he was here- so he'll be extra fired up. They got two others right under 40%... gonna have to guard the line well.

Taking Bryant and the points on this one (think it will open around +23)
Pinzon fired up at Carnesecca sounds about right.

Both a break for the starters and a game for the bench guys to play up for. I like the Bryant game. The Delaware one annoys me.
I think we need these games to set rotations and build consistency. After that if we can get some guys like Glover minutes, great. But this team still has a lot of work to do in terms of learning to play together and it needs some consistent rotations in multiple games to get there. The K State game was a good start, hopefully we stick with that (but starting Sim instead of Brady).

Rick seems to go a lot with practice performance and/or matchups when he wants more size or more quickness vs the opponent. He could use more of the Mike Anderson approach of "the goal is to make the other team adjust to us." Neither extreme is optimal but players need more consistency then he's given them the last year plus

I'm hoping the DePaul game serves that purpose in a not very competitive environment

I am tired of these types of games. I think this and Deleware are all that are left.

We will crush Bryant on Wed.

I think there should be 2 or 3 max of these kinds of games a season. And they should be the 1st 3 games.

Cupcakes in mid december should be off the table.
I couldn’t agree with you more . Bryant , Fordham , Delaware , Towson , Harvard , etc aren’t going to count for anything when NCAA Selection comes around in March .
For the most part , these are soft Cup Cakes and not the caliber of teams that we need on our Schedule going forward .
I believe it’s better to play the Gonzaga’s , Kansas or K State , UCLA , Duke , Syracuse , etc in pre season .
Creighton beating Kansas at the time , Number 1 is a resume builder we don’t have . Marquette beating Wisconsin is a quality win too.
Who wouldn’t turn out for a St John’s - Gonzaga game at MSG in early December ?
Even a ND - St John’s game at MSG would be better than a Fordham game at CA.
We are playing low mid tier teams for most part to start the season and it’s not contributing much to our Resume .
Of course , if we had beaten Baylor and /or Georgia , those wins could offset the weaker games we played .
But we didn’t .

The problem with playing better competition, which I agree we should, is that it seems that Rick’s system takes time to implement. If he is going to rely on the portal the extent that he does and not prioritize developing HS players, they will be almost starting from scratch each season and unless the team is highly talented with experienced players the early going may be difficult.
