Bronx Bombers 2017 Season Thread

At the stadium w my son
Severino has thrown 45 pitches in 2 innings - a walk, 2 hits, 1 hbp, w 5 Ks.
Hope he gets in a flow.
Aaron Judge caught looking.
Let's go Yanks!

Bottom 4
Headley double w bases full
2-1 yanks
But Severino has 86 pitches after 4 innings

T Frazier single 4-1 yanks

Severino just finished the 5th
8 Ks but 116 pitches
Likely done for the night!

I'm not the biggest Sonny Gray fan in the world, and I HATE that we had to give up Fowler and Kaprellian (even injured) but Cashman has really showing just how good of a GM he is the past two/three seasons (now that he has full autonomy). He's not perfect, and no GM hits on every move, but here's a few beauties he's pulled off recently that deserve to be celebrated:

He stole a Franchise SS in Didi Gregorious from Arizona for Shane Greene.
Sold high on Adam Warren and picked up Starlin Castro.
Pilfered Aaron Hicks from the Twinkies for JR Murphy
Acquired Aroldis Chapman for Rookie Davis, Eric Jagielo, Caleb Cotham and Tony Renda.
Rented Chapman to the Cubs for 3+ months for another franchise SS in Gleyber Torres, Billy McKinney (22 yrs old, hitting .280 with 12 hr at AA/AAA) an Rashad Crawford.
Sent Andrew Miller to Cleveland for Clint Frazier, Justus Sheffield, Ben Heller and JP Freyersien
Acquired two more closers in David Robertson, Tommy Kahnle along with Todd Frazier for Blake Rutherford, Tito Polo and Ian Clarkin.
Traded Yeffrey Ramierez and Todd Wotherspoon for another $3.5m in International Bonus Pool allocations that he can now spend on any/all of the half dozen or so unsigned top 30 IFA's from Latin America, and/or Shohei Otani if his Japanese team decides to post him this year.

Add to all of that this little nugget....he made all those deals the past few weeks and didn't have to give up this guy:

Anyone who doesn't consider this guy a top 5 GM just isn't paying attention.

Did you enjoy that blast by Aaron?

They are all nice Oldschool
Sitting here tonight w my son playing the Tigers I recall my dad in the 1950s - it seemed the opponent was always the Tigers -
My Judge home run excitement is the kind Mickey Mantle wound stir
Agree my friend?

Night games whew and
2 hour ride back to Sag H
If lucky
Fortunately my son agreed we'd leave in the 8th and he's driving
But fathers sons baseball games
Something special
Good night OSR

there was no playoff atmosphere in the detroit game. tigers only used 13 players, the yanks used 14. (better if i had said less of a playoff atmosphere than the recent rays & red sox series).
girard(i) got away with his b team lineup. great managing.
kornfused about severino's leash. is he or isn't he on a strict pitch count? threw 116 pitches.
bravo headley & all rise.
holder's non holding stat - 8 batters - 4 get on, 3 strikeouts.
had to bring chapman in - threw 5 pitches.
*Aaron Judge homered in the Yankees win over the Tigers, his 4th HR in his past 9 games after he was homerless in his first 8 games out of the break. It's his 1st HR this season off a pitcher who was named an All-Star this year.

10
even if no playoff atmosphere
when you're at the game live
you get to browse around the stadium
see little niceties (kids smiling, Judge signing dozens of autographs along the right field line before the game)
And his homer - not majestic high into the nighttime sky - was a bullet, low off the ground into the bleachers above the State Farm sign
all good
as w/SJU - both programs going in the right (Ws/better players) direction
all the best

4 months down, 2 months to go.
power rankings have yanks 6th in baseball, behind housetun & the indians.
yanks are 4th in run differential behind the insane season of the dodgers & astros.
yanks are 3rd in al in era, batt avg, & runs scored.
all rise, castro, & didi are 8, 9, &10th in al in batt avg.
severino is 4th in al in era.
yanks are up 2 in loss column for al east division.
yanks are up 6 in loss column for 2nd wild card berth.
doing most of this with castro & hicks hurt.
for a one game playoff - good shape with severino & very deep, talented bullpen.
or perhaps sonny
*Lowest ERA in MLB – Since June 25
Clayton Kershaw 0.56 4-0
Chris Sale 1.10 4-1
Sonny Gray 1.37 4-2
*Manager Joe Girardi said that Gray will make his first Yankees start during the team's upcoming road trip, which begins on Thursday at Cleveland. Gray's arrival will shake up the rotation, as Girardi said that he will not use six starters. The odd man out could be Jordan Montgomery, who lasted just 2 2/3 innings in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Rays.

I would think that Wednesday afternoon would make the most sense, considering Tanaka pitches better on an extra days rest, and Gray would get a Yankee stadium game under his belt. Girardi is the manager though.

I guess Holder will be sent back down until the call-ups in September and Montgemory to the pen as a long man lefty. Always need a lefty in the pen.

tough one run loss. all tiger runs coming on 2 two strike homers.
one homer - a first row short porch 10 pitch job.
lost to a below average pitcher. bravo didi.
game ended with "winning" run in scoring position. ouch.

Really frustrating team to watch. 2 days in a row they could not do anything pitchers with very poor ERAs. Cleveland series will be tough if they can't score runs.

Going into Cleveland series after losing last 2 to a bad Tigers team and staff is a recipe for disaster. Quite disappointed how this team finished the Home stand. Listening to Girardi it's obvious he has no clue or answers.

until 15 june the lineup everyday seemed to have 2 guys with great games, 5 to 7 guys having way above average sticks, above their career stats. now the lineup every day seems to have 2 or more guys in deep slumps.
another below average detroit pitcher beats them.
*Cody Bellinger and Aaron Judge are the first pair of rookies to each hit 30 home runs in a season since 2007 (Ryan Braun and Chris Young). The only other time it happened in the last 30 seasons was in 1993 (Mike Piazza and Tim Salmon).
*Aaron Judge went 1-4, with 2 more strikeouts on Wednesday against the Tigers. Judge has now struck out in 21 consecutive games, tied for the longest streak in MLB this season. Since the All-Star Break, Judge is hitting .164 with 29 strikeouts, the most in MLB in that span.

Judge's bat looks a little slow. I think he needs a couple of days off.

Home Run hiters tend to strike out more
