Bronx Bombers 2017 Season Thread

bravo "tease us" tanaka.
gardner must be eating his wheaties. all rise.
clint is so good & so young.
beating the rays is always pleasurable.
*The Yankees move into first place for the first time since June 21 thanks to a gem from Masahiro Tanaka. He fanned 14 in eight innings, six of those coming against his splitter as he generated 12 swings and misses with that pitch, tied for third-highest of his career.
*How Masahiro Tanaka won: Rays hitters were 1-for-11, with six strikeouts, against his spitter. That's Tanaka's season high in strikeouts with the pitch. In Tanaka's first two games this season against the Rays, they were 8-for-13 against the pitch. Tanaka generated 12 swings-and-misses with the spitter, tied for the third-most in any start in his career.
*
*Aaron Judge homered for the 33rd time this season Friday against the Rays. That ties Giancarlo Stanton for the major league lead. It was the third time he hit a home run on an inside pitch, tying Starlin Castro for the major league lead for home runs on such pitches. Judge has a hit in 17 straight home games, breaking Hideki Matsui's franchise rookie record.
*Clint Frazier launches a long, three-run homer to left-center and you can see why the Yankees are reluctant to include him a deal for Sonny Gray. I think he's been a little overhyped as a prospect -- his plate discipline is the big question about his future success -- but the tools are there to become a big-time bat if it all comes together and he's certainly an exciting presence in the lineup.

I will also emphasize this w CAP LOCK ON:
Tanaka pitches much better AT NIGHT and WITH EXTRA REST

Yes 10
But not as sweet as a W over that other Northeast team :silly:
Nice win tonight!
And
PLEASE do not trade too much for Sonny Gray!

Yes Knight!

My son just took Hampton Jitney into NYC on way to today's afternoon game - military appreciation day so he'll get a camouflage hat!

I'm gonna to Monday night game v Tigers
Memories tie me - seems in the late 1950s-early 1960s my Dad would take me: most of the time it was a Tigers game and most of the time we lost :(

Anyone going?
I'll treat you to a " beverage" of your choice...I know much easier to stay home by the TV

EXCITING times to follow Yanks and Red Storm!
Fortunate fan am I
Now if Army could win a few games I'd have the tri- fecta lol

Worthy SSG,
Enjoy the game. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate. My last visit was a day game with temps in the mid-90s. Too hot for me. I felt like I was in Florida's Hell. Only night games for me now. B)

another one run loss for the rays.
for those thinking another july game - 37 players were used.
despite al east & wild card implications - both starters will not see a playoff pitch.
again gardner ate his wheaties. bronx bombers bust two out.
bravo girard(i) - genius move with the pinch hitter, pinch runner, & the bunt.
kahnle throws heat but little movement.
cant believe snell is 0 & 6 - he has a nasty curve ball.
anti red sox by nature, anti ray by nurture.
too bad the mets & yanks dont easily trade. duda at first would be fun.
*Brett Gardner is the first Yankees player with two walk-off hits in the same series since....Brett Gardner in 2013 against the Tigers. Gardner's 8 walk-off hits since his debut in 2008 is twice as many as any other Yankee in that span.

The Yankees have acquired Jaime García and cash considerations from Minnesota in exchange for LHP Dietrich Enns and RHP Zack Littell.
The veteran is 67-52 with a 3.65 ERA in 9 MLB seasons.
Welcome to the Yankees family, Jaime!
*The Yankees and Twins completed a deal Sunday morning that sends left-hander Jaime Garcia to the Bronx in exchange for Double-A right-hander Zack Littell and Triple-A left-hander Dietrich Enns. Littell was a healthy scratch from his start for Trenton on Saturday night.
The addition of Garcia brings a veteran arm to the Yankees' rotation. But according to a source, New York remains deep in talks with Oakland about right-hander Sonny Gray, who has been the Yankees' top target this month.
General manager Brian Cashman has made it clear he has no interest in dealing top prospects Gleyber Torres and Clint Frazier, but the A's are very interested in 19-year-old outfielder Estevan Florial (the Yankees' No. 5 prospect, per MLBPipeline.com), who would likely be the main piece of a potential deal.
Sources said Saturday that talks between the teams were progressing, with the Yankees emerging as the favorites to land Gray, a 27-year-old former All-Star.
The Yankees' rotation consisted of Luis Severino, CC Sabathia, Masahiro Tanaka, rookie Jordan Montgomery and a rotating fifth spot that has seen Luis Cessa and Caleb Smith make starts of late. The addition of Garcia would provide much-needed stability for that final spot, but what would a Gray trade mean for the rest of the rotation?
Severino has already thrown a career-high 127 2/3 innings this season, topping his previous high of 113 in 2014. Montgomery has thrown 108 innings, leaving him 31 frames shy of his career high. The Yankees have not publicly said that either pitcher is on a strict innings limit this season, but adding a pair of starters would enable manager Joe Girardi to use a six-man rotation or skip his young pitchers from time to time in order to conserve their innings.
Garcia, 31, is 5-7 with a 4.29 ERA this season for the Braves and Twins, the latter having acquired the southpaw in a trade only six days ago. The move gave Minnesota the appearance as a buyer with the Trade Deadline approaching, but after being swept by the Dodgers in a three-game set, the Twins did a 180-degree turnaround and began listening to offers for players, including Garcia, Ervin Santana, Brian Dozier and Brandon Kintzler.

Good move by Cashman. Viable 5th starter for two solid prospects with no future in NY. Also removes two pieces from the post season 40 man equation/crunch, while taking the pressure off on the possible Sonny Gray deal.

Frustrating loss again. RISP numbers not good. Montgomery needs to give length. I don't care what anyone says, but Judge is expanding the strike zone to his own detriment, and he is uppercutting everything, I think a direct result of the HR Derby. Holliday looks lost. Still, I'll take another series win going into Cleveland.

monte just could not put the batters away at key times.
monte gave up rbis on 0 & 2 counts & 1 & 2 counts.
yanks & rays both had 2nd & 3rd with no outs & did not score.
they made great low pitches at all rise. the home plate ump expanded & lowered his strike zone.
i am convinced plate umps & tv weatherman took the same course - all over the map.
hot kc beat the red sox.
the rays keystoners are below average defensively.
duda will help the rays a lot.
cishek looks like mariano against the yanks.
evan continues to be a yankee killer.
i will always sign up for winning 3 of 4.
another july playoff game. rays used 19 players.

Umpire inconsistency kills.

Yanks acquire starting pitcher Sonny Gray for 3 minor leaguers (Dustin Fowler, Jorge Mateo, & James Kappielian).

According to YES: Gray for Kaprielian, Flowler, and Mateo.

So now what? I guess they have 3 options: A 6 man rotation, every team could always use a lefty in the pen, so does Jordan go to the pen, or will Jordan be sent down for a month?

This is a good problem to have. Sonny is slated to go tonight. I guess he'd fly here tonight, I'd give him tomorrow off, and have him pitch Wednesday afternoon.
We got help in the pen and the starting pitching, we are set to make a run a winning a championship.

Win 2 of 3 vs. Detroit and we'll have won 7 of 9, just what I was hoping for.

dustin fowler rated #79 best minor league prospect by one service..
