Big East & UConn

Fox TV will have a big say in whether the Big East expands, and if so, who is admitted.

More say than the member schools? Because if that's the case, UConn will be in. Possibly VCU and Wichita too if we jump to 16, which would be three large state schools disrupting our quaint little conference.

I'd love VCU, but since the current BE teams would likely have the same concerns as posters here regarding large state schools, I'd rather have Davidson over Richmond.

I wouldn't argue much if it were Davidson instead of Richmond.
The thing i like about Davidson is that its in Carolina. I agree with previous posters that we all see both sides. Although if we make it that UCONN can't leave once in, they will be vested to whats best for "our" conference. So, for me i like to add UCONN and Davidson, or Richmond. Staying at 10 would be fine too. We've proven that we are as strong as any conference with what forum we have have.

Wouldn't want either. (Really, Davidson over UConn?) Thanks but no thanks. Would rather stay with current 10.

Fun puts a gun to your head and says you have to pick either admitting Davidson or fellating Rob Thomas. Which do you choose?

Even a metrosexual like me has his limits. (P.S. Go Wildcats!)

I work one mile from Davidson College and go to some games. Fun teams to watch.

Coach McKillop has NYC/LI roots but will be interesting to see how they do after he retires. Very small school < 2K students but they fill a nice arena about size of CA.

He looks good, so can probably go another 10 years. But yes, him retiring would leave a huge void.

Any application to join the BE should be wait-listed.

According to the above linked article (who knows if it is accurate) Yukon reportedly is no longer under consideration for Big 12 expansion.

Regardless of whether or not the article is correct about UConn already being out, I have always felt they had a slim chance. Always thought Houston and BYU had the advantage and would be the choice. If they wanted to expand by four teams, then UConn might have a chance, but but I could see Cincy along with UCF and USF still ahead of them.

Interesting about the Texas politicians pushing for Houston. The same thing happened with the Virginia politiician pushing for VaTech which is why Cuse didn't get into the ACC with Miami the first time around. UVa was told to vote no on Cuse and was able to gather a few allies.

UConn may need them to expand to 16 to be able to get in. I think Cincy, BYU, Houston, and Memphis would all be ahead of them.

Why is that great news, or why are they no longer under consideration?

It's because the unexciting football program can't move the needle in the Big 12.

Why is it great news? I assumed most guys do not want UConn in BE. If they are spurned by Big 12, I assumed they will try to park football in lesser league & apply for BE admission for other sports. Maybe I am missing something.

I don't see why they would want to join the Big East. The AAC as bad is it is would only lose Houston if the article is correct. It will still probably be the strongest football conference outside of the Big 5 and with Memphis, Cincinnati and Temple, Tulsa and SMU it is not that bad a basketball conference. The University of Connecticut has been doing just fine in that conference.

I think the next great wave of expansion will be a race to 16, so the AAC will eventually be ripped apart. Memphis and Cincy will eventually be gone. UConn is in a tough position, tougher than I think a lot of their fans realize.
