back around 25 years ago we had a huge snow storm during the BET, no postponements--- it is a logistical nightmare.
I was at that game. Came in from Great Neck, and the Port Washington line was the only LIRR branch that was running afterwards (every 90 minutes, but there was a train waiting for us, when we left MSG). Apparently, they did come very close to stopping it in the first half.

The game was temporarily halted with 7 minutes 30 seconds to go in the first half by a steady dripping from the roof above the foul line at the Eighth Avenue end of the court.
After consulting with Garden and conference officials, conference commissioner Mike Tranghese decided that the risk was minimal and the situation was correctable.
While engineers worked to limit the condensation, the officials -- Larry Lembo, Ted Valentine and Joe Mingle -- devised a temporary solution. Fred Santi, a ballperson for the Knicks -- and coincidentally a junior at St. John's -- would step on the floor at the Eighth Avenue end when the two teams were closer to Seventh Avenue.
As Santi kept his head up, watching the action at the other end of the court, he ran his mop, again and again, over the area at the right edge of the foul line. When the play showed signs of heading his way, Santi took his mop and retreated beneath the basket. He noticed that with about a minute remaining in the half, there was less need for his extra work.
Also, a brief power surge -- with the arena's lights dimming and a buzz heard throughout the building -- got the attention of the crowd of about 11,000. The announced attendance of 19,522 was based on tickets sold.
