BET - Wed., Mar. 7, 7 p.m., Georgetown (8) vs. St. John's (9), FS1, Radio TBA
Let me repeat the simple message I posted 5 pages back:

We can win this game today.
I hope so. Obviously we'll be heavy underdogs. I'm expecting the worst and hoping for the best. I know the team will give their all, so can't be upset if we lose.

Great win and so refreshing not to lose immediately as was the case under Lavin. Not throwing shade at him, just being honest. When those teams played in the postseason you could just feel we probably wouldn't rise to the occasion. Credit Mullin for instilling the passion and effort...now before watching a game I know we have a chance no matter who the opponent is or if it's a postseason tourney or not. Early on I could only roll my eyes as G'Town looked like Duke at their peak making 3 after 3 like a well-oiled machine. I knew they weren't really that good and it was our awful defense in the 1st half that allowed it. Thankfully it got fixed in the 2nd and we got in their faces, thus the 3's stopped being automatic.

This is such a weird season...talk about roller coaster. I keep wondering if the NCAA committee would give us the last at-large bid if we make it to the finals. That would give us 18 wins but our resume would include 3 top 5 wins which I don't think anyone else has done. I know, some will say really 17 because the DII game doesn't count. Why did we play it then if it can only hurt us? It really makes you wonder what if LoVett didn't quit on his teammates...what if Ponds was 100% healthy all year...what if we had some depth especially with bigs...what if we didn't lose 11 straight. We realistically could have won 23 games this year if a few of the variables changed possibly even in the top 25. But I know, I know...if my aunt had balls.

If we win today we are 100% in the NIT. Even if we don't I think there's a chance. They have to reward several top 5 wins and strong SOS. If we really do get a legitimate big next year as well as a veteran assistant, I bet you will see a record for season tickets purchased (I'll join in) and great anticipation. But for now, on to Xavier. We can beat anyone.
Got back from the Garden doubleheader after a great night of basketball. I have loved this season (even with its roller coaster of ups and downs) and hope that it will continue after tomorrow. I think we have a decent shot against Xavier but no matter what happens this team is to be praised for the never quit approach that they have played with this season. This is a very likable group and I hope that anyone who can come back from this team does come back because they are on the verge of doing something really special in the near future.

As for tonight's game everyone deserves a ton of praise but I will single out Justin Simon who turned the game around and played brilliantly after returning from sitting because of two early fouls. There is much more to say but it is late and I just bought a ticket for tomorrow and need to go to sleep so I can make it back to the garden on time.
Nice Ghost Z
very well placed, poignant and heartfelt post which likely reflects the feelings of many of us!
enjoy the game today!
And yes why not beat Xavier (the Ghost of X as we did last night to vanguish the ghost of G'town lol) since we almost did twice and we are a much better team at this moment!!
I would NOT want to play St. Johns this week!!! Who would...
all the best

You know Coach Mack did not want to play us.. We win tomorrow. BTW, anyone know if any recruits made it to the garden?
As Jack of V inquired, any recruits in attendance?

Finally getting a chance to post. Garden was so much fun last night. Was so happy to see such a large crowd for opening night and lots of red!! Broke my own personal losing streak. Was at the Arizona State game, Providence on campus and Georgetown in D.C. All losses. Nice to see a win in person.
Heading back for the games today. I am loving this team. I think we have a good shot today. The storm screwed up a lot of travel plans for the Midwest fans. Marquette’s band and cheerleaders weren’t there last night. Expecting a sea of red today in the Garden!!!

Mike, if Lovett didn't quit on his teammates and Sidney Wilson wasn't swayed by the shenanigans of UCONN's staff with his handlers, this team would be 23-9 right now and on there way to the NCAA Tournament

Just got home after watching most of the double header. I thought the crowd tonight was good given the weather. What was up with all the baby fouls being called on both sides. The refs need to let the kids play. The calls were getting out of control. This team and Mullin have evolved. The confidence these kids play with I have not seen from any recent team. I think part of it has to do with Mullin allowing them to play loose and is not yelling at them for every mistake. Also what is up with Yakwe? I thought we could have used him for a minute or two when we were picking up fouls every 30 seconds.
Agree with your point of team playing loose under Mullin which really helps in post season play where a lot of teams play tight. though that was a problem under Lou in post season we usually seemed to play very tight because Lou seemed tight. Saw Mo with a big smile on his face when it was still a close game that was still to be determined.
Despite all the heat Mullin took on here during the losing streak, he never once looked stressed on the court.

When he spoke at a reception designed to give our coaches a boost (losing streak was 9 at the time), he said that he kept telling his players that if they play long enough they will go through a losing streak. He then added, as an aside, perhaps with an air of confidence that propelled to the HOF, "I never lost 9 in a row, though."

He then said,"I tell our guys not to use (Lovett's) injury as an excuse. Injuries ate part of the game, and that's all there is to that".

At the end of the night I said goodbye and then told Chris, "I want you to know, you are the right man for this job and at exactly the right time."

Every day the doubters become fewer and fewer. He never lost faith in his guys, that is paying dividends. Even had the confidence to use Amar in a key role on senior night, and Amar logged 40 credible minutes and earned a pot back in the rotation. He quickly disciplined Trimble, and as I expected, just like a good coach (and parent) would, once it was over, it was forgiven. He even expressed that the uncertainty over Ponds situation was exciting.

We have a good team right now, this season, as a result. No wait till next year. Yea it might end today, but February was about as satisfying as a meal at Rao's.

Maybe featherdusters CAN turn into peacocks. It certainly seems to have happened here.

Right coach. Right time. Bright future.

Win or lose, last month has been special and won't be forgotten. Of course a win would be just an amazing step in an incredible journey.
Great win, I thought Clark's 3 when Gtown put the press on was the play of the game
Agreed! To me that was the dagger. We looked a little shook at first responding to the press but I saw Clark wide open and was hoping they saw him. Thankfully they did and he made the shot. It was nice not really having to sweat much in the final few minutes. Can you imagine if we had a Govan type player on this current team? I think it was Ahmed who got caught on his screen and it was like a grape hitting a brick wall. Govan is like 6'10 270...really hope we can bring in a big body with some skill like him to go inside or out.

One thing is for sure, we will need Ponds to get his 3 pt shot back if we have a real chance to beat X today. It has also really impressed me how good Clark and Simon have become. As long as we can hold onto our core we have a solid foundation to work around. Go find that missing big Matt!
Great win, I thought Clark's 3 when Gtown put the press on was the play of the game
I thought it was when he brought all his glasses and his shoes with him...so that he had them. But seriously, I thought Justin's two and 1's really gave the guys that boost of confidence.
That's not so bad. On the Fox Sports1 crawler they had gtown winning the game:p
I didn't think anyone else noticed that! I thought maybe I had dozed off and had a St. John's fantasy dream about how they win the National Championship. Thought I imagined the whole victory over Gtown as the Road to the Final Four. LOL.
